For long-distance adventures, the XRE 300 is the way to go. It's a tank built, and it has better fuel efficiency. The ones I've taken, on multiple 1000+ mile trips, have worked out just fine.

In South America, I’d argue the XRE 300 is better. They are set up for those roads and conditions, and every mechanic there knows how to work on them.

I have ridden both, and to me, the XRE 300 is the simpler one. On the road, air-cooled engines are much easier to maintain, and that matters on long trips.

Surprisingly, I’ve done a 1000-mile trip on the CB650R, and it was comfortable! All you need to do is add a windscreen, and you're good to go.
