For short trips, it's ok, but for serious touring I don't recommend it. On long rides, frequent stops are annoying because of the small fuel tank.

For weekend getaways, I find it great. It’s a smooth engine at higher speeds, and the seat is comfy enough for a few hours at a stretch.

It can take long rides pretty well with a few modifications, like a better seat and a windscreen. It's decent stock, but not great for touring.

I've done a 500km round trip on my XBlade, and it was all good. Not comfortable, but it is doable. The trick is to break it up.

Long rides, though, it’s actually pretty good for its segment. On longer journeys it reduces fatigue with good bump soakage.
What long-distance adventure trip modifications would you make to the XRE 300 Sahara?

I’d start with a bigger fuel tank, first things first. The stock range isn’t bad, but if you’re looking for real adventure riding, you want to go further between fill-ups. Then a bit of good crash bars and a skid plate to protect.

Long trips require comfort. First off, a better seat, maybe a custom one, and then some highway pegs for those long stretches. Also, a taller windscreen would also help to reduce fatigue.

Luggage is crucial. For a good set of aluminum panniers and a top box, I'd go with. Maybe some tank bags too. It is necessary for you to be able to carry enough gear in order to go for extended trips.

I'd focus on the suspension. The stock setup is ok, but to make a serious difference for adventure riding and carrying a lot of gear, you can upgrade the springs and possibly also the shock.

If you don’t already have a good toolkit and some spare parts, don’t overlook them. You might add a small air compressor as well. Long-distance adventures require you to be able to handle repairs on the road.
Would the XRE 300 Sahara make it to the US market if Honda were to import it?
17 January 2025 06:33
Absolutely! What the US market needs are more affordable, mid-sized adventure bikes. If you are new to the game or just want something a little more manageable than a well-equipped adventure bike, then the XRE 300 Sahara could be a great entry.

I don't think it would do well here. We already offer larger displacement bikes like the KLR650 and Versys-X 300, bikes Americans tend to prefer.

I'd love to see it in the US because I've ridden one of them in South America. If you're looking for a road bike that you can take on the backroads with, and light off-roading without spending a small fortune, it's a perfect bike.

To meet US regulations and consumers expectations, Honda would have to change a little. It could be a hit if they can do that without driving the price too high.
