My NS125 is now over 30,000 km old and it's been rock solid. I've had no major issues, but I’m big on regular maintenance. The build quality has been really improved by Bajaj.

It's been hit or miss for me. There have been a few electrical niggles that need sorting out. Nothing major, but that's annoying for a relatively new bike.

The NS125 feels a lot more refined and better built than older Pulsars. I believe if you stick to the service schedule then it should last a long time with very few problems.

These are bulletproof engines but I've heard of switchgear and instrument problems in humid conditions. Those parts may be worth keeping an eye on.

It’s pretty reliable, but parts can be expensive for more basic 125cc bikes. If you’re on a budget, this is something to take into account.

I'm really careful with maintenance and mine's been great. Long term reliability, I think, is going to come down to how you treat the bike.
How reliable is the Pulsar NS125 in the long run?

It’s generally reliable, but I’ve noticed it doesn’t like being revved hard when cold. It should treat you well, but take care during warm up.
How does Pulsar NS125 fare in city traffic as a 125cc bike?

In city traffic the NS125 is a beast! The nimble handling makes squeezing through gaps easy and, combined with the torquey engine, means you can zip away from the lights quickly. The better than most other 125s I’ve ridden.

It’s a bit heavy for constant stop and go riding. The Honda Shine feels lighter and easier to maneuver in really tight spots, something like that.

It's a mixed bag. While the power is more than enough for fast overtakes, the sporty riding position tires quickly over long commutes. I would say that it is better than average, but not the best for pure city use.

In the city, the NS125’s suspension is a godsend. The potholes and rough roads soak up way better than most other 125cc bikes I have tried. It makes a big difference in comfort.

In traffic, I actually prefer the slightly heavier NS125 feel. So it feels more planted and stable particularly when you're going through crazy auto rickshaws that cut across lanes.

In the city, the NS125 brakes are a huge plus. It's really nice to have that extra confidence when you have to stop suddenly due to some idiot not looking before crossing the road.

I think it’s too much for pure city use. Yes, it's fun; but for daily commutes a more practical and economical option would be something like a Splendor/Activa.
Should the Pulsar NS125 be the new kid on the block, or is it worth the extra cost over more basic 125cc commuters?
30 January 2025 09:41
Absolutely worth it! It’s a proper motorcycle, not just a basic commuter. It has much better build quality and you get features like a rear disc brake that most other 125s don't have.
Should the Pulsar NS125 be the new kid on the block, or is it worth the extra cost over more basic 125cc commuters?
30 January 2025 09:41
Honestly, I don't think so. For instance, if you’re only going to use it for commuting, something like Honda Shine or Hero Glamour will work just as well for lesser money. Save the cash, for fuel or gear.

It all depends on what you want out of your bike. The NS125 is worth it if you like riding and want something that is also fun on weekends. Probably not if it’s just for getting from A to B.

Pulsars generally have a better resale value than basic commuters. But you pay more upfront, and you might get more when you sell it. Something to consider.

For the safety features alone I'd say it's worth it. In addition, the beefier tires and better brakes could literally save your life in an emergency situation.

I can say that the difference in riding quality and overall feel is huge, as I upgraded from a basic 125 to an NS125. It’s just a more enjoyable bike to own and ride.
