How reliable is the NS400Z for daily commuting?

It’s been over a year since I started using my NS400Z as a daily commuter. No major issues so far. But if you ride sensibly, it's surprisingly fuel efficient and the upright riding position makes it easy to thread your way through traffic. If you just keep up with regular maintenance, you’ll be fine.

I wouldn't say this is something I would use daily. It's been in the shop more times than I can count. The service intervals are too frequent, it heats too much in traffic, and electrical gremlins. For commuting stick to something more reliable.

It's been hit or miss for me. It's a great commuter when it's running well, it's comfortable, quick and fun. I’ve had a couple of annoying issues that have needed dealer visits. It’s manageable if you’re mechanically inclined. It might be frustrating if not.

I’ve seen my fair share of NS400Zs as a mechanic. In general they're reliable but some early production models had teething issues. Apparently, Bajaj is ironing these out. If you keep on top of oil changes and valve adjustments, it should serve you well.

Mine's been solid and I use it daily. The only problem I have had is that the battery dies before it should, but that's easy to fix. The power is enough for the occasional highway blast and it handles city traffic well. You can expect more frequent services than you would with smaller bikes.

The NS400Z is a great mod piece. I’ve added a full exhaust system, Power Commander, some suspension tweaks. It has changed the bike, it's way sharper handling and the power delivery is so much smoother now. Lots of potential if you like to customize.

With mods on this bike I'd be careful. There are many aftermarket parts that aren’t of good quality and you run the risk of voiding your warranty. And the stock bike is already pretty good. A few minor cosmetic changes, but nothing too crazy performance wise.

Now obviously the NS400Z has potential, as someone who’s built a few custom bikes myself. There's enough power to work with and the frame is good for cafe racer conversions. You’ll have to be prepared to make a lot of parts yourself as the aftermarket isn’t as developed as it is for other more popular models.

I've modded mine a little bit, slip on exhaust, bar end mirrors, tail tidy. It's nothing too crazy, but the bike is now much better looking and sounding. All you have to do is do your research and purchase quality parts. More problems than it's worth will be caused by cheap eBay specials.

They honestly should leave it stock. Why do they think they can fiddle around with some bolt on parts and improve a bike that Bajaj engineers have spent years developing? And if you're going to save your money, just enjoy riding it as is. If you want a project bike, get an older model.

In my opinion, totally worth it. For the price though, the NS400Z packs a serious punch. You're getting near super bike level performance in a much more practical package. It’s not perfect, but if you can show me another Indian bike that gives you this much bang for your buck I’ll buy you a drink.

Overhyped for sure. The bike itself is pretty meh, but Bajaj's marketing team deserves a raise. Its essentially just a bloated NS200 with bad build quality. It's a KTM or spend a little bit more money for a more reliable Japanese option.

It's a mixed bag. There’s a great engine and performance, but refinement is still something Bajaj needs to work on. The higher one goes in speed, vibrations can become an issue. Nevertheless, it is a massive leap forward for Indian motorcycles and the promise is great. In two generations it'll be a real winner.

I'm honestly disappointed, as a NS200 owner I was super excited for this. Bajaj cut corners, it feels like. Aggressive riding will find it out of its depth, with the brakes not being up to much. It’s good, but not the game changer we hoped it would be.

I feel people are being too harsh. Bajaj has done a decent job with this attempt to a 400cc naked for a first attempt. It’s not perfect, but if you’re looking to get off a smaller bike without spending a fortune, this is a good option. It has a hard to beat value proposition.

The NS400Z is surprisingly capable and I've done a couple of 500+ km day trips on it. Comfortable upright seating for hours at a time, and grunt enough for the highway. High speeds can be an issue with wind blast, but a small aftermarket screen helps a lot.

For touring it's decent, but not great. After a few hours, the lack of wind protection really wears you down. Fuel range is also average, you will be stopping every 200-250 km. It will be fine for weekend trips, but I wouldn't want to do a cross country tour on it.

Having toured on a number of bikes, I would say that the NS400Z is a good all round bike. It isn’t as comfy as a dedicated tourer, but it’s a lot more fun on twisty roads. It is easy to do multi day trips with some soft luggage and a tank bag. That’s just something to plan for more frequent stops.

Honestly, I tried touring on mine and it was a mistake. After a couple hours it gets uncomfortable and the vibrations at highway speeds are annoying. If that’s your thing, stick to short rides and get a proper touring bike.

It's all about expectations. It sucks for touring if you are comparing it to a Goldwing. It’s pretty good for a naked sports bike. I've done a couple of 1000 km weekend trips and liked it. All you need to do is to invest in a good tail bag and maybe a better seat.
