Toyota Etios Liva TRD Sportivo Diesel
General information and overview
The Toyota Etios Liva TRD Sportivo is a unique offering in the hatchback segment, distinguished by its sporty body kit, 15-inch alloy wheels, and dark interiors. Powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Etios sedan, it produces 90PS of power and 132 Nm of torque, making it a pleasure to drive, especially in city conditions. The car features a five-speed manual gearbox with smooth and trouble-free gearshifts, and its suspension is tuned to absorb potholes while reacting well to sharp inputs. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and an impact-absorbing body structure. While it may lack some modern amenities like a touchscreen infotainment system, it compensates with its reliability, low ownership costs, and comprehensive warranty offerings. Overall, its a solid choice for those looking for a fun, reliable, and safe hatchback.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Toyota Etios Liva TRD Sportivo, while not a new entrant in the market, brings a unique blend of performance and practicality. However, its crucial to note that this variant is not available in a diesel option it comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Etios sedan. This engine, though not as powerful as some modern hot hatches, offers a responsive and engaging driving experience, especially with its healthy low-end torque and linear power delivery. The sporty body kit and dark interiors add to its appeal, but the overall design may not be to everyones taste. For those seeking a fun-to-drive, reliable, and safe hatchback with standard safety features like dual front airbags and ABS with EBD, the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo is a solid choice, despite its lack of premium features and somewhat dated styling.
Recent news and announcements
Toyota has announced that it will be discontinuing the Etios Liva soon, including the TRD Sportivo diesel variant. This decision comes as the company refocuses its product lineup. The Etios Liva, known for its reliability and low ownership costs, has been a popular choice in India. I think this move might disappoint loyal customers, but it could also pave the way for new, more advanced models.
In 2013, Toyota Kirloskar Motor introduced the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo with a new 1.5L engine, targeting the youth market with its sporty and trendy design. This variant included features like a TRD Aero Kit, smoked alloy wheels, and a new seat fabric with the TRD Sportivo logo. The diesel variant was priced around Rs. 6.14 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). I believe this edition was a great move to attract younger buyers with its aggressive styling.
Toyota expanded its dealer network significantly around the time of the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo launch, aiming to improve its reach in semi-urban and rural areas. This expansion included setting up new outlets and enhancing the Toyota U Trust operations for better customer service. I think this strategic move helped in increasing the vehicles accessibility across India.
The Etios Liva TRD Sportivo diesel variant came with enhanced safety features, including ABS with EBD, dual-front airbags, and ISOFIX child seat mounts, making it one of the safest cars in its segment. The diesel engine produced 68PS and 170Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. I believe these safety features were a significant selling point for this model.
In July 2012, Toyota launched the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo Limited Edition, marking the first anniversary of the Etios Liva. This limited edition, designed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Japan, was available in both petrol and diesel variants and featured accessories like front bumper spoilers, side skirts, and smoked alloy wheels. The diesel variant was priced at Rs. 6,32,281 (ex-showroom Delhi). I think this limited edition added a nice touch of sportiness to the standard model.
Pricing details and changes
The Toyota Etios Liva TRD Sportivo, when it was available, was priced around Rs 6,11,833 ex-showroom. However, since this model is no longer in production, the current market price would be based on used car listings. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, would have been slightly higher, typically around Rs 7-8 lakhs, depending on the state and local taxes. For those considering purchasing a used model, its essential to check current market listings and negotiate based on the cars condition and mileage.
Fuel efficiency information
The Toyota Etios Liva TRD Sportivo, with its 1.5-litre petrol engine, offers a mileage of around 18.16 kmpl, as per ARAI standards. In real-world conditions, this can vary, but it generally provides a respectable fuel economy for a petrol-powered hatchback. This makes it a reasonable choice for those concerned about running costs, especially considering its performance-oriented nature.
