Overview

With an overall user rating of 4.7 on their official site and the advertised Global NCAP rating of 5 stars, TATA Altroz seems to be a premium option and rightfully so. Although Tata is cleverly hiding the details of that Global NCAP rating. Getting 5 stars for the adult occupant and a 3 star for the child occupant, makes an overall 4-star. Or perhaps child safety is not that important or else they would have added the clear stats as well, to support their 5-star flaunt.

Tata Altroz Design and Style

The design of the new Tata Altroz is based on the impact 2.0 language. The interior is inspired by the cockpit design and the doors ?suit that needs as well. 90-degree opening doors give it the sense of a flying machine and it further provides extra space while entering or exiting. To brighten the darkest alleys, it comes with dual-chamber projector headlamps. R16 Dual-tone LASER cut alloy wheels add to its aesthetic appeal. Piano black electrically adjustable ORVMs with chrome accents offer a premium and elegant look. To increase the daylight entry and to improve surround visibility, it has a DLO with a shooting comet beltline. The door handles are integrated into the C-pillar and they seamlessly merge with the spoiler, giving it a refined look. Signature LED DRL and Split tail lamps and adding to contrast it has a black roof. Floating-island dashboard with classic Satin Chrome finish, leather-wrapped gear lever and inside door handles with a metallic finish. They skillfully crafted it with leather seats, rear AC vents, rear flat floor design, 90-degree opening doors, and personalised wallpapers to add to a comfortable ride. The steering wheel is flat bottom ergonomic designed to ensure ingress/egress for the driver. A glove box with a 15L capacity is installed with a temperature control tech.

There are 3 types of engines available for new Tata Altroz; 1.2l Revotron, Petrol, 1199cc, 3-Cylinders that generates a maximum power of 86 HP @ 6000 rpm (63.3 kW) and a maximum torque of 113 Nm @ 3300 rpm, 1.2l i-Turbo, Petrol, 1199cc, 3-Cylinders producing 110 HP @ 5500 rpm (80.9 kW) 140 Nm @ 1500 - 5500 rpm of maximum output and a 1.5L Turbocharged Revotorq, Diesel, 1497cc, 4-Cylinders producing peak power of 90 HP @ 4000 rpm (66.2 kW) and peak torque of 200 Nm @ 1250 - 3000 rpm. Tata Altroz has a 5-Speed Manual transmission and a 6-Speed DCA transmission.

Tata Altroz Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

The front and rear brakes of the new Altroz are Disc and Drum respectively, Front suspension is an independent MacPherson dual path strut with coil spring and the rear suspension is a twist-beam with coil spring and shock absorber. XE, XE Plus, XM Plus, XT, XT i-Turbo have steel wheels with caps and XZ, XZ i-Turbo, XZ Plus, XZ Plus i-Turbo have alloy wheels while the XT Dark has Hyperstyle wheels. R14 165/80 tyres are used for XE, XE Plus (Petrol/Diesel) and XT i-Turbo (Petrol). R16 195/55 tyres are used for Petrol XM Plus, Petrol XT, Petrol XT i-Turbo Dark, Petrol XZ, Petrol XZ i-Turbo and XZ Plus i-Turbo (Petrol). R16 185/60 tyres are used for XM Plus DCA, XT DCA, XZ DCA, XZ Plus DCA, Diesel XM Plus, Diesel XT, Diesel XZ & Diesel XZ Plus and Petrol XZ Plus. A spare tyre of R14 165/80 is provided. It has a seating capacity of 5 and a fuel tank capacity of 37 litres.

iRA, a new connected car tech platform, offers various features developed in India for India. Harman developed A 17.78cm infotainment system with a touchscreen interface. The voice tech can understand your commands in English, Hindi and even Hinglish (Hindi+English). They installed it with Xpress cooling, after you press the Xpress button, it will sense the temperature and start cooling and when the desired cooling is reached, it will alert you. Smart headlamps are set to light up upon entering dark areas with no intervention. Rain-sensing wipers will work on their own as well. It comes with an easy-to-use cruise control function and can be connected to AppleCarPlay and Android Auto. Infotainment comes with a set of pre-installed themes; Zeal, Zen, Zing.

There are 3 driving modes; Eco, City and Sports which you can change according to your need or mood. Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture (ALFAARC) ensures stability during maneuvering. ALFA architecture along with an energy-absorbing body structure, Anti-Brake System (ABS), and Break Sway Control (BSC) comes into play before the ABS, preventing the car from swaying off the road. Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Corner Stability Control (CSC).

The ARAI certified fuel efficiency of new Tata Altroz for Petrol is 18.53 kmpl, for Diesel it is 23.03 kmpl and for iTurbo, it is 18.13 kmpl. The Top speed of Altroz is 165+ kmph and the time to accelerate from 0-100 kmph varies from 10-12 seconds depending on the variant.

2023 Tata Altroz is one of the safest cars in India, as per the Global NCAP ratings. Only a handful of cars could score similar ratings or come close to it. Based on safety, it seems a premium choice. ALFA ARC is supposed to be the most stable structure in India. Good driving mechanics and charming features add that little knick that you might be looking for to get this car. Comparatively, the price also seems quite reasonable considering all the safety and amazing features that come with it. If performance is not that big of an issue for you and safety and aesthetics are your goal then this might be the car for you, not saying its performance is bad but it might be just lacking in some spaces compared to other cars of the same class.
