General information and overview

The Renault Sandero is a practical B-segment hatchback tailored for India, boasting a Duster-inspired rugged design with horizontal headlights, bulging rear, large greenhouse for visibility, and 185/65 R15 tubeless radial tyres on 15-inch alloys for composed handling on pothole-ridden roads. It seats five comfortably with generous legroom, premium upholstery, and a cavernous 320-liter boot surpassing the Figo, perfect for groceries or luggage. Under the hood, petrol engines (manual transmission) deliver peppy performance for junctions and highways, aided by power steering, while safety shines with airbags, ABS-EBD, and sensors. Inside, expect a touchscreen infotainment with navigation, Bluetooth, cruise control on top trims, AC, and multi-function steering. Fuel efficiency at 20 kmpl ARAI makes it economical for daily 40 km runs, blending space, tech, and ride comfort into a reliable daily driver that rivals Swift or Grand i10 without the hype, empowering smart buying with proven ergonomics and low costs.

The Renault Sandero offered for India is a B‑segment hatchback focused on practicality: it typically comes with petrol engines, manual gearbox options, a 50‑litre fuel tank and a layout that prioritises cabin space and boot capacity (around 320 litres) over plush trim. Equipment in higher trims includes touchscreen infotainment, smartphone connectivity, safety features such as airbags and ABS, and convenience items that give strong value for money compared with rivals. The Sandero’s ride and handling are tuned for stability and comfort rather than outright sportiness, making it easy to drive in urban conditions and relaxed on highways. Build and interior materials are utilitarian; the car rewards buyers who put a premium on low running costs, practicality and straightforward engineering rather than premium refinement or high‑end cabin ambience.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Renault Sandero a compelling choice in India's hatchback segment, delivering robust value with its spacious cabin and 320-liter boot that outshines rivals like the Ford Figo, making it ideal for families juggling city commutes and weekend getaways. Its design echoes the Duster's beefy stance with broad front facade, pronounced wheel arches, and wrap-around tail lights, paired with practical features like the MediaNav touchscreen infotainment supporting Bluetooth, navigation, USB, AUX, daytime running lights, and even cruise control on top variants. Powered by efficient turbocharged petrol and diesel engines with a 50-liter tank, it handles Indian roads smoothly, offering stable dynamics for urban nip-and-tuck traffic or highway runs. While not the most refined in noise insulation, its 20 kmpl ARAI mileage keeps running costs low, and the comfortable ride suits daily use without breaking the bank on maintenance. For budget-conscious buyers seeking space, features, and reliability over flashy thrills, I recommend the Sandero—it's a no-nonsense workhorse that punches above its weight, helping you save on fuel and resale worries while enjoying premium touches in a B-segment package.

I find the Renault Sandero to be a pragmatic, no-nonsense hatch that prioritises space, practicality and low running costs over showy design or premium refinement. I appreciate its roomy cabin and large 320‑litre boot which make it one of the most usable cars in the segment for families and buyers who carry luggage regularly. The driving experience is composed rather than exciting — the engines are adequate for daily use and the chassis delivers stable, confidence‑inspiring behaviour at city and highway speeds according to long‑term owners and reviews. Interior materials and NVH are functional rather than luxurious, so if you want soft‑touch surfaces and a hushed cabin, the Sandero will feel basic compared with some rivals. Where it shines is value: generous equipment in higher trims, sensible packaging and low ownership costs create a strong proposition for buyers focused on utility and economy. I would recommend it to buyers who prioritise space, practicality and cost of ownership over sporty dynamics or premium cabin feel.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Renault Sandero starts at an ex-showroom price of around ₹6.00 Lakh for the base variant, making it aggressively positioned against the Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Swift in the entry-level hatchback fray, with top-end models likely topping out near ₹8-9 Lakh ex-showroom depending on features like infotainment and cruise control. On-road prices add RTO, insurance, and other charges, pushing the base to approximately ₹6.7-7.0 Lakh in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai, while fully loaded versions could reach ₹10 Lakh on-road, varying by location—always check local dealerships for precise quotes as taxes fluctuate. I appreciate this pricing strategy; it undercuts many feature-laden competitors while packing in essentials like LED headlamps, alloy wheels, airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity. This affordability translates to strong ownership value, low depreciation for good resale, and budget-friendly EMIs, letting you invest savings into accessories or fuel. For city drivers or first-time buyers, the ex-showroom base offers unbeatable bang-for-buck, ensuring you drive home a stylish, safe hatch without premium markup, solidifying its appeal in India's price-sensitive market.
December 17, 2025
Ex‑showroom prices for the Sandero in India are positioned near the entry‑B segment and listings indicate starting figures around ₹6.00 lakh ex‑showroom in many city estimates, with on‑road prices varying by state, RTO, insurance and dealer accessories which typically add 10–20% to the ex‑showroom figure depending on location. In practice that means an on‑road price in major metros will commonly fall in the mid‑₹6 lakh to low‑₹7 lakh band for a well‑equipped variant after taxes and insurance are added, while base manual trims can remain closer to the listed ex‑showroom rate. From my perspective the Sandero’s pricing undercuts many rivals when equipment-to-price is weighed, making it attractive to buyers seeking space and features on a budget; however buyers should factor in dealer location, registration charges and optional accessories which materially change the on‑road cost in India.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I rate the Sandero's ARAI-certified 20 kmpl petrol mileage highly for Indian conditions, dropping to realistic 15 kmpl in city traffic, which keeps monthly fuel costs under ₹5,400 for 1,200 km at current prices. Low maintenance and 50-liter tank minimize running costs, making it a smart pick over thirstier rivals for cost-conscious buyers prioritizing wallet-friendly ownership.
December 17, 2025
Official and reported mileage figures for the Sandero vary by source, with ARAI‑style claims and market reports suggesting around 20 kmpl for petrol variants while some spec lists and user reports cite conservative real‑world figures closer to 15–20 kmpl depending on driving conditions. If running costs are your priority, expect highway cruising to deliver the upper end of that band and city traffic to be towards the lower end; choose higher gearing and conservative driving to maximise real‑world economy.

Renault Sandero will be the newest addition in the Indian hatchback segment as it is soon to be launched by Renault in India

Renault Sandero will be the newest addition in the Indian hatchback segment as it is soon to be launched by Renault in India and it seems like a hatchback version of Logan and also have many features derived from it. It is manufactured by a Romanian subsidiary of Renault, Dacia and its concept version was shown at Paris Auto Show 2012 and the produced version was shown some months before at Geneva Motor Show 2013. It has features taken from both Logan and Renault's recent success, Duster. It has same front grille, body colored front bumper and headlight design as Duster. Also its roof line can dropped towards the rear according to your taste to give it a nice sporty look.

It also has three spoke power steering wheel, power windows, rear wiper and defogger, adjustable driver seat, highly spacious dashboard, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, trip meter and tachometer on the instrument panel, remote central locking and folding rear seats. There is also a quality audio system with CD player, MP3 player, Bluetooth, AUX-in and USB support features. This hatchback really guarantees a lot of space with 320 litres of boot capacity and it extends to 1200 litres when the seats are folded. As far as safety is concerned, it has two front Airbags and ABS with EBD, pedestrian protection, safety assist and received four stars in EuroNCAP crash test.

Also it includes McPherson struts front suspension and a torsion beam in rear. It has a wheelbase of 2589mm and a ground clearance of 172mm which will prove useful on our roads. In India, it is only available in diesel engine which will most probably be from Logan or Duster. It will be a 1461cc 1.5L K9K diesel engine which produces a maximum power of 90 bhp with a top speed of 167 kmph and reaches 0-100 kmph in 12.1 seconds and is equipped with a five speed manual gearbox. It has 4057mm of length, 1733mm of width and 1523mm of height as dimension. Overall, this hatchback looks like a good combination of style, space, performance and safety and only the time will shows what it has in its future in India.
