Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Renault Kwid stands out in the Indian compact hatchback segment thanks to its bold SUV-inspired styling, spacious interiors, and a feature-packed cabin that feels premium for its price point. Its compact dimensions make it ideal for city driving and dense traffic conditions, while the 999 cc petrol engine offers a blend of decent performance and fuel efficiency. Although the engine refinement and material quality could be better, the Kwid compensates with a robust list of modern features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which elevate the driving experience. In terms of comfort, the car offers good headroom and legroom for a small family, making it a practical choice for urban users. Ride quality is competent, and safety features have improved, though the ratings still lag behind some competitors. Overall, it balances affordability, style, and efficiency well, making it a compelling option for buyers looking for a budget-friendly car with a premium touch in India.
November 30, 2025
The Renault Kwid stands as a compelling proposition in India's entry-level hatchback segment, and I find it to be a genuinely thoughtful offering for first-time car buyers and those seeking urban mobility on a budget. What impresses me most is how Renault has managed to deliver a feature-rich experience without compromising on practicality, which is rare at this price point. The refreshed 2025 model brings a more dynamic exterior design that appeals to younger buyers, while the spacious cabin with its larger touchscreen infotainment system and improved material quality gives it a more premium feel than competitors. I appreciate the safety enhancements including dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors, though the single-star NCAP rating does warrant consideration. The exceptional fuel efficiency and easy maneuverability in congested Indian cities make it an ideal daily driver. However, I acknowledge that refinement levels could be better, engine noise can be noticeable, and the overall build quality feels average compared to established competitors. Despite these compromises, the Kwid delivers outstanding value for money, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious Indian buyers who prioritize features and practicality over premium refinement.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The Renault Kwid continues to impress me as one of India's most practical entry-level hatchbacks, delivering remarkable value for budget-conscious buyers. The current lineup features a 999cc three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 bhp and 91 Nm of torque, paired with either a five-speed manual or an automated manual transmission. What strikes me most is the fuel efficiency, with the Kwid delivering between 21.7 to 22.5 kmpl depending on the variant, making it exceptionally economical for daily commutes. The pricing remains competitive, ranging from approximately 4.30 lakh to 5.99 lakh rupees ex-showroom across its variants. I find the ground clearance of 184mm particularly commendable for navigating India's varied road conditions. The cabin impresses with its spacious 2,422mm wheelbase and a generously sized 279-litre boot space that belies its compact exterior dimensions of 3,731mm length. Modern amenities including an eight-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, digital instrument cluster, and multiple airbags provide contemporary comfort and safety. The Kwid's SUV-inspired design with LED DRLs and practical split-fold rear seats make it an intelligent choice for first-time car buyers and young professionals navigating urban Indian roads.

I've been tracking the Renault Kwid closely in India, and as of early 2026, it's holding strong as the go-to budget hatchback with its unchanged 999cc three-cylinder petrol engine pumping out 67bhp at 5500rpm and 91Nm at 4250rpm, paired to a five-speed manual or AMT for that easy city shuffle. Prices hover between 4.3 to 6 lakh ex-showroom, making the base RXE a steal at around 4.82 lakh on-road in Delhi, while the loaded Climber AMT tops out near 6.54 lakh—perfect for first-time buyers dodging potholes with 184mm ground clearance and a spacious 279-litre boot. Mileage stays class-leading at 21.7 to 22.5 kmpl ARAI, real-world around 16-18 in traffic, and I've noted the recent Night and Day limited edition in Pearl White with black roof adding festive flair via cosmetic tweaks and accessory packs. Safety's stepped up with six airbags standard now, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-start assist, and TPMS across variants, plus an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, digital driver display, and rear camera in higher trims. Ride quality shines on urban roads with MacPherson struts up front and torsion beam rear, though refinement dips under hard acceleration—still, its SUV-esque stance, 28-litre tank for 500+km range, and discounts up to 65,000 until late last year keep it unbeatable against S-Presso or Celerio for value-packed practicality.
February 18, 2026
I've been tracking the Renault Kwid closely in India, and as of early 2026, it's holding strong as a budget hatchback champ with its BS6 Phase 2-compliant 999cc three-cylinder petrol engine churning out 67-68bhp at 5500rpm and 91Nm at 4250rpm, paired seamlessly with a five-speed manual or AMT automatic for that peppy city zip—hitting 0-60kmph in about 11 seconds and topping 152kmph on highways. Real-world mileage clocks 18-20kmpl in mixed conditions, better than many rivals like the Alto K10, thanks to its efficient MPFi setup and 28-litre tank for 550km range, while 184mm ground clearance tackles our pothole-ridden roads effortlessly. The cabin feels surprisingly roomy for five with 279-litre boot space, an 8-inch touchscreen supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in higher trims, digital cluster, and essentials like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-start assist, and TPMS across variants from the ₹4.3 lakh RXE base to ₹6 lakh Climber AMT topper ex-showroom. Recent tweaks include subtle styling updates, LED DRLs, and drive modes—Eco, Standard, Power—for versatile urban hauls, making it a steal for first-time buyers chasing style, space, and savings without skimping on safety.
February 18, 2026
The Renault Kwid continues to establish itself as India's most accessible entry-level hatchback, and I find its evolution particularly noteworthy for budget-conscious buyers. The current generation, now in its mature phase with BS6 Phase 2 compliance, maintains its core appeal with a 999cc petrol engine delivering 68 horsepower and 91 Newton-meters of torque, paired with either a five-speed manual or AMT automatic transmission. What strikes me most is its impressive fuel efficiency, offering between 21.7 to 22.5 kilometers per liter depending on the transmission type. The pricing structure starting from 4.30 lakh rupees ex-showroom makes it exceptionally competitive against rivals like the Maruti Alto K10 and Tata Tiago. Recent updates include subtle styling tweaks and enhanced technology integration, featuring an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity across higher variants. The 184-millimeter ground clearance proves practical for Indian road conditions, while the 279-liter boot space maximizes practicality for daily usage. Safety specifications have improved with dual airbags now standard, alongside ABS with EBD and electronic stability programs. I appreciate how Renault has positioned the Kwid as a no-compromise proposition for first-time buyers seeking reliability and value without sacrificing essential modern conveniences.
February 18, 2026
Renault India has launched the Night and Day limited edition of the Kwid, featuring a Pearl White with black roof exterior shade. This special edition includes minor cosmetic changes and accessory packs, making it a stylish option for the festive season. I think this edition adds a nice touch to the Kwids already appealing design.

Pricing details and changes

The Renault Kwid in India is priced competitively, with ex-showroom prices starting from approximately ₹4.9 lakh for the base petrol variant and going up to around ₹6.8 lakh for the top-end CNG manual version. On-road prices vary by city and variant but are generally between ₹5.1 lakh to ₹7.2 lakh in major metros, including taxes, insurance, and registration. This pricing positions the Kwid attractively against rivals like the Maruti Alto and Tata Tiago, especially given its SUV-like styling and advanced features at the upper trims. The Kwid's pricing strategy gives it good value for money in the entry-level segment, making it accessible to first-time buyers and budget-conscious families. Given its combination of features, design, and running costs, the Kwid offers a strong proposition—especially for urban commuters seeking a stylish yet affordable hatchback that can handle daily city driving with ease.
November 30, 2025
The Renault Kwid's pricing in India presents excellent value across its lineup, with ex-showroom prices ranging from approximately Rs 4.9 lakhs for the base petrol manual variant to Rs 6.8 lakhs for the top-spec CNG manual variant. When accounting for on-road costs in Delhi, the entry-level variant comes to around Rs 5.13 lakhs while the top-spec reaches approximately Rs 7.18 lakhs, making it highly accessible for first-time car buyers. I find the pricing strategy particularly aggressive and well-positioned, as the Kwid undercuts many competitors while offering significantly more features and space. The compact pricing compared to alternatives like the Maruti Alto 800 or Hyundai Eon is remarkable, especially considering you get a touchscreen infotainment system, better interior space, and modern safety features. The availability of both petrol and CNG variants provides flexibility for buyers concerned about fuel costs, though the petrol variant offers better value for typical urban usage. I view this pricing as strategic market positioning that disrupts the entry-level segment by offering premium features at budget-friendly costs, making the Kwid an exceptional proposition for Indian buyers seeking maximum bang for their buck.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

With a claimed mileage of around 23 kmpl for the petrol variants and close to 31 km/kg for the CNG option, the Renault Kwid performs well in terms of fuel efficiency. This makes it a sensible choice for those prioritizing running costs in India’s market. Its compact engine size and lightweight design contribute to delivering commendable mileage, which in turn lowers the overall cost of ownership. For city and highway use, the Kwid manages to maintain efficiency without compromising too much on performance.
November 30, 2025
I've observed that the Renault Kwid delivers impressive real-world fuel efficiency ranging from 22 to 24 kmpl across its petrol variants, which is competitive for this segment and becomes even more attractive when you factor in its spacious interior and feature set. The mileage remains consistent at approximately 23 kmpl under normal driving conditions, though I must note that achieving optimal efficiency requires maintaining speeds within 100 kmph, as users have reported slightly lower figures during aggressive driving. This efficiency profile makes it economical for daily urban commuting, helping offset its modest running costs. The availability of CNG variants further enhances affordability for those prioritizing low fuel expenses, though the petrol option provides better performance for occasional highway usage. From my perspective, the Kwid's mileage combined with its affordable servicing ecosystem makes it a sensible choice for cost-conscious buyers, though realistic expectations around actual performance depend significantly on driving patterns and maintenance practices.

Introduction

The French automaker, Renault, offered the Kwid hatchback in India in September 2015. Initially, the brand intended to sell the car only in India, but it was later expanded to other global markets as well. Produced in our country with 98% local parts, the car was introduced to compete with the other small-segment cars. However, it got some sophisticated features that were not offered by its rivals at that time. The manufacturer debuted the Kwid in India with the hope that it would act as a game-changer for them in the Indian market. Later in October 2019, the brand debuted the facelift model of the Renault Kwid with some cosmetic as well as feature updates.

Renault Kwid Design and Style

In terms of design, the new Renault Kwid hatchback has an entirely redesigned front end. This incorporates a dual headlight configuration, with the LED DRLs and indicators on top and the core headlamp cluster below on the bumper. The enormous blacked-out front bumper has a slim chrome bar that connects the two LED DRLs, with the Renault logo in the midst.

2023 Kwid gets an all-black lip on the bottom of the bumper that is designed to look like a scuff plate. The front appearance of the car is a big strong point, as it looks more stylish than a reasonable price segment vehicle. As for the side profile, the hatch gets matte black elements on the side that add to its beauty. It has cladding on the doors, wheel arches, and roof rails that gives it an impressive look.

The rear design is quite simple, but it doesn’t appear dull. It has Kwid branding along with a camera, and the rear bumper is also finished in matte black. The modest changes from the previous generation include a new illumination design for the tail lamps, which now use LEDs for the stop lighting, while the turn indications and reverse lamps still use halogen bulbs.

Reflectors incorporated into the rear bumper are another addition to the Kwid's makeover. Speaking of the body dimensions, the hatch is 3731mm in overall length, 1579mm in overall width, and 1490mm (with roof rail) in overall height, with a wheelbase of 2422mm.

Renault Kwid Engine and Gearbox

Powering the new Renault Kwid are two engine options, however, both are petrol-powered. The first one is a 799cc, 0.8 SCe, 3-cylinder, 12-valve engine that comes mated with a 5-speed manual synchromesh transmission and churns out 54 HP at 5600 RPM and 72 Nm of torque at 4250 RPM. The other one is 999cc, 1.0 SCe MT & EASY-R, 3-cylinder, 12-valve that is combined with 5-speed manual synchromesh transmission and produces 68 HP at 5500 RPM and a max torque of 91 Nm at 4250 RPM.

Renault Kwid Interior, Instrument Cluster & Boot Space

Renault has designed the new Kwid’s interior in such a way that it looks airy and simple yet classy. The dashboard is totally blacked out, with complementing accents surrounding the AC vents, side door panels, centre console, and seat fabric. The materials used in the interior are of good quality and there is a KWID embedded on the passenger side dashboard. The 7-inch horizontally stacked infotainment screen has been replaced by an 8-inch device. It supports smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The cabin space in the car is maximised with sufficient storage areas such as mobile and wallet storage in the front console, a glove box, a parcel shelf, and bottle holders on the front doors. Both the front and rear seats are comfortable, but the headrests are fixed. Headroom and knee room are sufficient, and the armrest is also available in the rear seating row. The instrument cluster is likewise based on the Renault Triber and gets two analogue dials with a display in the middle. The hatch comes with a boot space of 279 litres, which is further expandable to 620 litres for carrying a good amount of luggage for your journeys.

Renault Kwid Brakes, Suspension & Tyres

Braking duties in the new Renault Kwid are handled by disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. While the suspension chores are done by Mac Pherson strut with lower Transverse link at the front and Twist beam suspension with coil spring at the rear. The hatchback is offered with 165/70-R14 size radial tubeless tyres.

Renault Kwid Key Features

Renault has offered the 2023 Kwid plenty of features that add to the worth of the hatch. Some of the prominent features include SUV-styled headlamps, LED DRLs, taillights with LED light guides, a digital instrument console, floor console-mounted AMT dial, 20.32cm touchscreen MediaNAV with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, four-way adjustable front seats, reverse parking camera with guidelines, fast USB charger, day/night IRVM, 12V charging socket, central air vents with chrome knobs and so on. On the safety front, the car comes fitted with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, speed sensing auto door locking, seat belt reminder, over-speed alert, reverse parking sensors and much more.

Renault Kwid Top Speed, Acceleration & Mileage

2023 Renault Kwid accelerates from 0-100 kmph within 16 seconds and can reach a top speed of 130+ km/h. As far as mileage is concerned, the hatch can offer a fuel efficiency of 20-22 km/l, however, it may vary depending on various factors including terrain, driving style and maintenance.

Renault Kwid Variants & Colour Options

As for variants, there are a total of eight variants on offer. These are RXL 0.8, RXL 1.0, RXL(O) 0.8, and RXL(O) 1.0, RXT 1.0, CLIMBER, RXT 1.0 EASY-R and CLIMBER EASY-R. The rich colour scheme of the Renault Kwid consists of six vibrant shades named Fiery Red, Outback Bronze, Moonlight Silver, Zanskar Blue, Metal Mustard and Ice Cool White. Metal Mustard and Ice Cool White are dual-tone shades with a black roof.

Renault Kwid Ex-showroom Price & On-Road Price

At present, the ex-showroom price for the base RXL 0.8 variant of the new Renault Kwid starts at Rs 4.64 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 5.99 lakh for the top-end CLIMBER EASY-R variant. To distinguish between off-road and on-road pricing, the ex-showroom price of a car is the asking price that does not include the cost of road tax, insurance, or registration. The on-road price, on the other hand, includes all of the aforementioned costs as well as insurance, registration, a one-time road tax, an extended warranty, and all vehicle accessories. It is important to note that on-road prices in our country vary widely from state to state.

Renault Kwid Competitors

In the Indian car market, the Renault Kwid locks horns with Datsun Redi-GO, Maruti Celerio, Maruti Alto 800, Maruti S-Presso, Hyundai Santro, Maruti NEXA Ignis and the Tata Tiago.

Verdict - Should You Buy Renault Kwid or not?

Renault has offered the new Kwid hatch with plenty of features despite its very reasonable price range. The car has good looks, and a good powertrain and the handling is really impressive. However, the engine is a bit noisy and you can even feel it from inside the cabin. But still, we can say that at the price point, the hatchback offers more. So, if you are looking for an affordable hatchback with some advanced features, you should go for it.

Kwid is game changer in Indian car market. It suv inspired design harbours great features like built in navigation system, digital instrument display, good ground clearance, mighty boot space. Thus kwid in my opinion is the most brilliant hatchback in its segment.

Many comment that kwid is just a fancy good looking car, nothing more than it, but trust me I am driving kwid from past one year and if my opinion counts, kwid is a great car in every sense. Best-in-class mileage, superb performance and of course great exteriors.

With a few minor compromises which too feels insignificant at a low price tag, kwid is the best entry-level crossover in the indian market.

My dad asked me to google in a car that suits our budget i.e. around 2-3L. I started looking for a car which can land down in our budget and should have a flashy outlook and then my eyes got stuck on Renault KWID. Googling further confirmed its price that was fortunately in our budget. And thus with a convenience of finance we bought Renault KWID!
