Our take on this /// Verdict
The Nissan Terra, though not yet launched in India, promises to be a formidable contender in the SUV segment. From the reviews and tests, it is clear that this vehicle excels in its muscular design, spacious interior, and off-road capabilities. However, it also has some drawbacks, such as a utilitarian feel to its interior and a somewhat noisy engine. For those who prioritize practicality, space, and ruggedness, the Terra could be an excellent choice. Yet, for buyers seeking a more refined and luxurious driving experience, other options might be more appealing. Overall, the Terras strengths in design, space, and off-road performance make it a compelling option, but its lack of refinement and higher price point may deter some potential buyers.
Price
The expected price of the Nissan Terra in India is around 20 lakh for the base variant, though this figure is subject to change upon official launch. When considering the on-road price, buyers should factor in additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, which could push the final cost to around 23-25 lakh. Given its features and the segment it competes in, the Terra seems to offer good value for money, especially if priced competitively against rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. However, the final pricing will be crucial in determining its market viability.

Nissan is expected to launch the Terra SUV in India by June 2026, with a projected price range of Rs. 18.00 lakh to Rs. 21.00 lakh. This upcoming D2-segment SUV will have seating for up to 7 occupants. I think this pricing will make it a competitive option in the Indian market, especially given its spacious interior and expected features.

Nissan has confirmed plans to bring two new SUVs to India, including a 5-seat and a 7-seat model, with the 7-seat SUV likely being the Terra. This move is part of the Renault-Nissan Alliances strategy to expand their SUV lineup in India. I believe this will be a significant step for Nissan to gain more market share in the SUV segment.

The Nissan Terra, when launched, will feature dimensions such as a length of 4885mm, width of 1865mm, and height of 1835mm, along with a wheelbase of 1850mm and ground clearance of 225mm. These dimensions suggest it will be a substantial and spacious vehicle. I think the generous ground clearance will be particularly appealing for Indian road conditions.

Nissan India has been focusing on expanding its product lineup, and the Terra is one of the key models expected to contribute to this growth. The company has also announced plans to launch other vehicles, including an electric vehicle, as part of their future strategy. I think the Terra will play a crucial role in Nissans efforts to strengthen its presence in the Indian SUV market.

Although the 2021 Nissan X-Terra, a facelift of the Terra SUV, was unveiled for the Middle East and South East Asian markets, it is not planned for the Indian market. However, the features and design of the X-Terra, such as its zero gravity seats and advanced safety features, could influence the Indian version of the Terra. I believe incorporating such features would enhance the Terras appeal in India.
Mileage
Monday, 18 November 2024 04:26 PM
The mileage of the Nissan Terra, based on available data, is quite respectable for a diesel SUV of its size. In city driving conditions, it is reported to deliver around 9-10 km per liter, while on the highway, it can achieve up to 15-16 km per liter. These figures are commendable, especially considering the vehicles size and capabilities. However, actual mileage may vary depending on driving conditions, maintenance, and other factors. For buyers in India, where fuel efficiency is a significant consideration, the Terras mileage makes it a viable option. Discussions and Questions Nissan Terra
Is Nissan Terra's infotainment system a deal breaker?
06 January 2025 09:44
I don't think it's that bad. It's not the fanciest system in the world, but it does what it needs to. Plus, I don’t use the native interface for anything anymore with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Real world fuel efficiency of Nissan Terra vs its competitors.
06 January 2025 09:44
As far as I know, the Terra's fuel economy is pretty good for a car its size. One thing I can say is that in mixed driving, I am averaging about 10–11 km/l which isn’t bad for a seven seater SUV.
Will the Nissan Terra lose its value very fast, is this a concern for long term ownership?
06 January 2025 09:44
It's not bad resale value, but the resale value may not be as strong as a Toyota. Also, you'll probably get a better price on a new Terra than you would on its rivals, which might make up for any depreciation difference.
Will the Nissan Terra’s spaciousness come at the cost of performance?
06 January 2025 09:44
Everything depends on your priorities. The Terra has the space for city driving and the occasional highway trip. However, if you’re usually fully loaded, or riding in hilly areas, the lack of power can be frustrating.
Is the Nissan Terra's off road ability as good as they say?
06 January 2025 09:44
As anyone who has taken the Terra out on some gnarly trails will attest, it’s surprisingly capable. It’s not a Jeep Wrangler, but it’ll get most people through most off road situations they’ll ever find themselves in.
