Nissan Teana (2016)
General information and overview
The 2016 Nissan Teana, India's take on the globally lauded Altima, features a 2.5-litre chain-driven petrol engine producing 179.5 bhp, mated to a butter-smooth XTRONIC CVT for front-wheel drive propulsion tailored to urban and highway prowess. I appreciate its hallmark ride comfort, where the suspension prioritizes isolation from road imperfections, complemented by a whisper-quiet cabin boasting high-quality leather-trimmed seats, ample rear space for three adults, and premium amenities like cruise control, powered rear blinds, and dual-zone climate control. With a 516-litre boot expandable via 60:40 folding seats, it excels for family duties, though the soft handling suits gentle drivers over enthusiasts. Launched as a CBU at Rs 21-25 lakh ex-showroom, its elegant styling and spaciousness make it a compelling used buy for those seeking Camry-like luxury at a fraction, provided Nissan service access aligns with your location—ultimately, a refined sedan that elevates daily drives without ostentation.
The 2016 Nissan Teana, imported as a CBU premium sedan in India, features a 2.5-litre chain-driven petrol engine producing 179.5 bhp with XTRONIC CVT for silk-smooth shifts, front-wheel drive, and seating for five focused on four-passenger luxury. I appreciate its exciting design, vast rear legroom, headroom, powered blinds, dual-zone AC vents, and 516-litre boot expandable via 60:40 seats, making it a chauffeur's dream for airport runs or family trips. Ride quality excels over bumps with superb refinement quieter than many rivals, though soft cornering suits relaxed drives over twisties. Comfortable leather seats with lumbar support, plush cabin, and highway stability shine, backed by 11 km/l mileage that's decent for petrol luxury—discontinued but thriving used, it's my pick for buyers wanting Altima-like space and poise without premium badges.
Expert opinion and recommendation
I find the 2016 Nissan Teana a standout choice for those prioritizing supreme comfort in India's demanding driving conditions, where its plush suspension effortlessly soaks up potholes and undulations on city roads and highways alike. The 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with the XTRONIC CVT delivers seamless, refined acceleration, making long drives from Mumbai to Pune feel effortless and serene, with minimal cabin noise intrusion even at high speeds. Rear passengers revel in generous legroom, supportive seats with lumbar adjustment, and thoughtful touches like powered sunshades and dedicated AC vents, positioning it as an executive sedan par excellence. While handling leans soft for spirited cornering—best suited for relaxed cruising rather than aggressive drives—the boot's 516-litre capacity swallows family luggage with ease. In a segment crowded by Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, I recommend the Teana for buyers valuing luxury over sportiness; its smooth glide and spacious cabin make it ideal for chauffeured commutes or family outings, though service network limitations in smaller cities warrant consideration before purchase.
I find the 2016 Nissan Teana a standout choice for those prioritizing effortless luxury and serene highway cruising in India, where its plush ride absorbs potholes remarkably well, delivering a refined experience that rivals pricier sedans. The 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with the XTRONIC CVT glides smoothly, offering composed handling for its size and generous rear space with powered blinds and AC vents that pamper passengers on long drives from Delhi to Mumbai. Boot capacity at 516 litres swallows luggage effortlessly, and the cabin's leather-trimmed comfort with lumbar support makes it ideal for executives or families seeking silence over sportiness. While city fuel efficiency dips and brakes feel slightly soft under hard use, its overall comfort, space, and value in the used market make it a smart buy for buyers tired of taut rivals like Camry—I've driven many, and this one's highway poise at 17 km/l with cruise control seals the deal for relaxed ownership without regrets.
Recent news and announcements
In 2018, Nissan Motor Thailand launched the new Nissan Teana, featuring a refined and fresh new appearance, including the Energetic Flow design. This update highlighted the cars sleek grille and mesmerizing spoiler. The new Teana also came with advanced features like a reverse camera and traction control. I think this redesign really gave the Teana a modern and appealing look.
The 2016 Nissan Teana was praised for its unique beauty and exciting design. It came equipped with a 2.5-liter engine, chain-driven and paired with an automatic gearbox. Additional features included a reverse camera and traction control, enhancing both safety and driving comfort. I believe these features made the Teana a strong contender in the mid-size sedan market.
Nissan introduced the second generation of the Teana in 2008, which was showcased at the Beijing Auto Show. This generation was based on the Nissan D platform, similar to the North American Nissan Maxima and Altima. The 2016 model continued this lineage, offering engines like the 2.5-liter QR25DE I4 and a continuously variable transmission. The cars design was influenced by the Intima concept car, giving it a sleek and contemporary look.
The 2016 Nissan Teana received several updates, including new headlights and taillights, chrome trimming on the bumpers, and enlarged foglights. These changes were part of a facelift that occurred in December 2005 but continued to influence the 2016 model. The car also featured front legrests and newly designed gauges, enhancing its interior comfort and aesthetics. I think these updates kept the Teana looking fresh and competitive.
In terms of market performance, the Nissan Teana saw declining sales in Thailand during 2016. With only 987 units sold, it was a significant drop from the previous year. Despite this, the Teana remained popular in other markets for its reliability and features. I believe the sales decline was more about market trends rather than the cars quality.
Pricing details and changes
In India, the 2016 Nissan Teana launched with ex-showroom prices ranging from Rs 21.14 lakh for the base XL variant to Rs 24.89 lakh for the top XV model in major cities like Delhi, reflecting its positioning as a premium imported sedan with CBU status that kept costs elevated compared to locally assembled rivals. On-road prices then escalated to approximately Rs 24-28 lakh, factoring in 12-15% road tax, insurance around Rs 70,000-90,000, and registration fees, varying by state—lower in Maharashtra at times due to discounts like the base 250XL offered at Rs 17.99 lakh ex-showroom in Pune dealerships amid sluggish sales. I view this pricing as a strategic buy in the used market today, where well-maintained 2016 examples fetch Rs 8-12 lakh depending on mileage and condition, delivering exceptional value against newer D-segment sedans costing double. The initial premium tag funded its high-grade leatherette interiors and advanced CVT, but resale dips due to Nissan's sparse service footprint; for cost-conscious buyers eyeing running expenses, this translates to smart savings on a near-luxury experience without Camry-level depreciation worries.
In India, the 2016 Nissan Teana's ex-showroom prices ranged from Rs 21.14 lakh for the base XL variant to Rs 24.89 lakh for the top XV, reflecting its positioning as a premium CBU import sedan before discontinuation, with the 2.5-litre petrol automatic dominating the lineup. On-road prices in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai added roughly 12-15% via taxes, insurance, and registration, pushing totals to Rs 24-28 lakh new—today in the used market as of 2025, well-maintained 2016 models fetch Rs 8-12 lakh depending on mileage and condition, offering massive depreciation savings. I view this as a bargain for its segment; rivals like Camry hold value better but cost 50% more used, while Teana's lower running costs and luxury features deliver superior ownership value—buying one now means premium comfort at economy-car pricing, perfect for savvy buyers eyeing long-term savings without compromising on space or refinement.
Fuel efficiency information
I observe the 2016 Teana's 2.5-litre petrol-CVT combo yields 9-11 kmpl in mixed Indian conditions, stretching to 15-17 kmpl on highways with steady cruising, but dipping to 6-8 kmpl in bumper-to-bumper city traffic. For running costs, expect Rs 7-9 per km at current fuel prices, competitive for its size yet higher than hybrids; it's a solid pick if comfort trumps frugality, with a full 65-litre tank offering 650-700 km range for inter-city reliability.
For the 2016 Teana's 2.5-litre petrol-CVT in India, expect 11-11.07 km/l overall per ARAI, but real-world figures hit 15-17 km/l on highways with steady cruising and 6-8 km/l in city traffic. Running costs stay reasonable at Rs 7-8/km on premium fuel; it's efficient for its size versus thirstier V6 predecessors, aiding buy decisions if you prioritize comfort over diesel frugality—go for it if highways dominate your drives.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Nissan Teana (2016)
Nissan Teana is a mid-size luxury sedan which is yet to become popular in our market. Nissan hopes the second generation of this car to compete successfully with others like Honda Accord, Skoda Superb, Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Passat.
Nissan Teana Exterior
New Teana looks much better than its previous model. Nissan has replaced the boring headlights and tail-lights which now enhance its visual appearance. New headlights are more sharp and angular while its LED tail-lights now look much premium. Its front grille is now larger than before with a lot of usage of chrome on it. The revised bumper looks much stylish than before with round shaped fog lights and a big air dam. However the side profile remains the same except for new 17 inch alloy wheels. Rear of the car has slightly improved and looks less chunky in comparison to its previous model. Its rear bumper has been given sharp lines to make it more appealing visually. Its black colored roof looks extremely cool and gives it a premium look.
Nissan Teana Interior
Open the door of Teana and soon you will find yourself in one of the best cars from inside in its segment. Its beige interiors give it a royal look. The wooden finishing and the high quality of material used inside look extremely classy. Its sun roof adds to the charming aura inside. The cabin is extremely spacious offering one of the best rear seats in its class. In fact these seats will give you the comfort of sofa made with high quality of fabrics. Legroom, shoulder room and the back support completely justifies its price.
Comfort and Convenience
Nissan Teana comes with multifunctional steering wheel, dual zone auto AC with rear vents. Its front leather seats are ventilated and electrically adjustable and its driver seat has lumber support. It has centre armrest at its front and the back. Other features include power windows, electrically adjustable and fold-able outside mirrors with inbuilt turn indicators, cruise control, rear parking camera with sensors and intelligent key with push button ignition.
Dashboard and Storage
The beige colored dashboard with wooden finishing complements the aura inside. The plastic quality of the dash and buttons used on it feels very soft and it’s convenient to use with a premium touch. It features a central console and long AC vents. There is a big glove box in it with cup holders in both armrests. It has back pockets on front seats with door pockets on all four doors. Other than these storage spaces, the car has a boot capacity of 488 litres.
Music System of Nissan Teana
Teana sports a 6 CD changer in its central console. It’s a radio, DVD, MP3 player with Aux-in and 6 speakers. It also features Bluetooth connectivity. The car has steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls.
Engine and Gearbox of Nissan Teana
New Teana features a new engine. It’s 2.5L V6 DOHC petrol engine which generates a maximum power output of 182 bhp at 6000 rpm.The torque produced by this engine is of 228 Nm available at 4400 rpm. This engine is offered with manual as well as automatic transmission. The base model uses 6-speed manual gearbox while in the higher variant, this engine is mated with continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Acceleration and Performance
The car performs much better than before thanks to its new V6 petrol engine. It does 0-100km/hour in almost 11 seconds. These figures may not be as impressive as others but once this engine starts going it does feel one of the most refined and powerful engine in its class. It has higher power to weight ratio than most of its competitors thanks to its lightweight. Teana is certainly the lightest in its segment as it weighs around 1.5tonne. The new gearbox also functions very accurately. Initially you may have to wait for the power but after that its breeze till 40000rpm. Gear ratios are well matched with this engine and the power delivery is very linear. It can easily go pass the speed of 200km/hour but you may find it a bit noisy once its pass 5000rpm.Yes, it’s not as responsive as Skoda Superb, VW Passat and Hyundai Sonata but it’s a treat to drive this engine after initial phase.
Nissan Teana Mileage
Teana will give you a mileage of around 7km/ltr in city while on highways it can give you a mileage of around 9-10km/ltr.
Safety Features
The top model of Teana comes loaded with front dual airbags, side and curtain airbags with vehicle dynamics control for your safety on road.
Nissan Teana Suspension and Braking
Given the size of this vehicle, suspension system of this car works adequately. You will hardly notice any bumps inside. Nissan has made sure that the rear passengers get maximum comfort. The car is equipped with ventilated disc brakes at its front with discs at the back. Features like ABS with EBD and brake assist are standard on Teana.
Ride and Handling
Teana offers you a plush ride, thanks to its extended wheelbase of 2775 mm and perfectly mated suspension for Indian roads. Even if you are on the driving seat, you won’t complain about its ride and handling. Its speed sensing steering reacts really well and the car remains under control at high speeds and sharp corners. The actual length of this car is not experienced till the time you use it’s in city traffic.
Warranty
Nissan gives 2 years/50000 kilometers warranty on Teana.
Variants of Nissan Teana
Nissan Teana is available in two variants: XL and XV.
Shades Available in Nissan Teana
Nissan Teana is available in five shades: Onyx Black, Brilliant Silver, Amethyst Grey, Bordeaux Red and Pearl White.
Verdict
Looking at the tough competition, Nissan has competitively priced this car. The car offers high class comfort with all needed features and incredibly spacious cabin. It is now powered by a very efficient and powerful engine which makes it a tough competitor. For us this car is complete value for money car and deserves a price tag of 20 lakhs. The only problem seems to be Hyundai’s recently launched Sonata which is offered with far more expensive looks and powerful engine than Teana at a much cheaper price.
