Latest Updates

The Mercedes-Benz SLC has officially been discontinued, with the last model being the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC Final Edition. This edition was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, marking the end of a nearly 23-year run for the SLC, which was previously known as the SLK. The SLC Final Edition comes with some unique features and design elements to commemorate its legacy. I think this is a sad end to a beloved roadster, but its clear Mercedes is shifting focus to other models.

In 2019, Mercedes-AMG announced the 2019 edition of the SLC 43, which included more power and new features. The SLC 43 is equipped with a 3.0 V6 Twin-Turbo engine producing 390 horsepower, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Although its not as extreme as other AMG models, it still offers high performance and a revised chassis. I believe this update was a nice sendoff for the SLC series.

The Mercedes SLC features a distinctive design with a retractable hardtop, allowing it to function as both a coupe and a convertible. The latest revision in 2016 introduced more fluid and sporty lines, especially in the AMG variant. The hardtop includes a glass roof that can change opacity using electrochromic glass. I think this design element is one of the SLCs most appealing features.

The interior of the Mercedes SLC is characterized by a classic and functional design, similar to other Mercedes models like the SL and SLS. The 2016 update improved the cars equipment and technology, including features like Full-LED lighting, cruise control, and heated seats with the Airscarf system. Despite the updates, it still lags behind in terms of infotainment compared to newer models. I believe the interior is where the SLC shows its age.

The Mercedes SLC has a long history, starting with the first SLK in 1996. Over the years, there have been three generations, with the last one being rebranded as the SLC in 2016. The SLC has always been known for its compact size and sporty demeanor, making it the most affordable convertible in Mercedes lineup. I think the SLCs history is a testament to its enduring appeal.

The Mercedes-AMG SLC 43, despite its high performance, is not considered an extreme AMG model. It does not follow the traditional AMG philosophy of one man, one engine and is not manufactured in AMGs Affalterbach facilities. However, it still offers a comprehensive revision in chassis, design, and powertrain with AMGs input. I believe this makes it a unique offering in the AMG lineup.

The Mercedes SLC is available in two main variants: the SLC 200 with a 2.0 Turbo engine producing 184 horsepower, and the SLC 43 with a 3.0 V6 Twin-Turbo engine producing 390 horsepower. Both models come with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The SLC 43 is clearly the performance-oriented option, while the SLC 200 is more about everyday driving. I think the SLC 43 is the real star here.

Mercedes-Benz decided to change the nomenclature from SLK to SLC in 2016 as part of their broader model renaming strategy. This change was accompanied by a facelift that introduced new design elements and updated technology. The SLC retained its position as a compact, two-seat roadster with a retractable hardtop. I think the name change was a good move to align with Mercedes new naming convention.

The Mercedes SLC has been on the market since 2011 in its third generation, known as the R172. This generation saw significant improvements in design, performance, and technology compared to its predecessors. The SLC remained popular for its blend of sportiness and comfort. I believe this generation was a high point for the SLC.

When the SLC was first introduced in 1996 as the SLK, it marked a new era for Mercedes-Benz in the compact roadster segment. The SLK quickly gained popularity for its unique retractable hardtop and sporty performance. Over the years, it evolved through three generations before being rebranded as the SLC. I think the original SLK set a great precedent for future models.
