Latest Updates
Friday, 08 August 2014 10:02 PM Maruti Suzuki has officially stopped the production of the SX4 sedan to make way for the new Ciaz. The SX4 had been seeing poor sales, with less than 250 cars sold on average every month in 2014. The aging car couldnt compete with newer models like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. I think this decision was necessary to keep up with market demand.
Wednesday, 16 July 2014 12:19 AM The 2014 Maruti SX4 ZXi comes with a 1.6-liter petrol engine producing 104.7 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque. It features a 16V DOHC engine with VVT technology, and the car has a ground clearance of 180 mm and a boot space of 505 liters. The fuel tank capacity is 50 liters, and it has a kerb weight of 1200 kg. I believe these specs make it a practical choice for those looking for a C-segment sedan.
Wednesday, 03 April 2013 11:59 PM Maruti Suzuki launched the updated version of the SX4 in India, which is now 100mm longer and features a refreshed bumper and front grille with more chrome inserts. The interiors are more premium, and the car includes features like touch screen audio navigation and electronically foldable ORVMs. The SX4 is available in two new colors – Serene Blue and Granite Grey. I think these updates make the SX4 more appealing to buyers.
Wednesday, 03 April 2013 09:30 PM The facelifted SX4 also introduced a CNG variant in the VXi trim, which is tuned to return an economy of 22.1 km per kg. The sedan is powered by the same 1.6-liter petrol and 1.3-liter turbo diesel engines, but with improved ARAI efficiency figures of 16.51 kpl and 22.1 kpl respectively. The prices start at Rs 7.385 lakh for the petrol version and go up to Rs 9.21 lakh for the top-end diesel ZDi. I believe the CNG option is a great addition for cost-conscious buyers.
Tuesday, 05 March 2013 03:09 PM Maruti Suzuki showcased the SX4 crossover at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, receiving a good response from visitors. The new Indian-bound SX4 is expected to be larger than the current model, with an all-new cabin equipped with advanced and comfort features. The car will likely house the same 1.6-liter petrol and 1.3-liter diesel engines but with possible tuning for more power and efficiency. I think this new design could revitalize the SX4s market presence.
Wednesday, 20 February 2013 07:09 AM The Maruti SX4, originally launched in 2007, has seen several updates, including the introduction of a 1.3-liter turbocharged diesel engine in 2011. This engine produced 90 PS of peak power and was also used in other Maruti models like the Swift and Swift Dzire. The SX4 has always been a capable and practical car, even if it never set sales charts on fire. I believe it remains a good option for those looking for a reliable used car.
Wednesday, 16 January 2013 01:05 AM Maruti Suzuki updated the SX4s petrol engine using VVT technology, increasing the power to 105 PS. In 2010, they also launched a factory-fitted CNG version, which became popular among radio taxi and fleet operators due to its large boot, ease of maintenance, and fuel efficiency. I think these updates helped keep the SX4 relevant in the market.
Monday, 10 December 2012 12:34 PM Despite its facelift and new features, the SX4s sales continued to struggle, partly due to increasing competition in its segment and its less appealing looks compared to other Maruti models. The company aimed to launch an all-new SX4 by the end of 2013 or early 2014 to boost sales. I believe a complete redesign was necessary to compete effectively.
Tuesday, 20 November 2012 11:44 AM The Maruti SX4 was known for its spacious interior and large boot space, making it a practical choice for many buyers. However, it faced stiff competition from other C-segment sedans like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. The SX4s diesel engine, in particular, was praised for its performance and efficiency. I think the diesel variant was one of the highlights of the SX4.
Monday, 15 October 2012 05:13 PM Maruti Suzuki had plans to launch the all-new SX4 in India and North America by the end of 2013 or early 2014. The new model was expected to be based on the same platform as the European hatch and would feature advanced comfort and technology features. However, the recent facelift of the existing SX4 might have delayed these plans. I believe the delay could have been a strategic move to gauge market response.

Maruti SX4 (2014) Review

Expert Review by Maxabout

Maruti SX4 is a discontinued sedan that rivaled Hyundai Verna and Honda City in India. It was placed as a premium option before the introduction of Maruti Ciaz and came with a price tag that is more similar to current generation sub 4-meter cars in India. The petrol powered SX4 was priced between INR 7.18-8.58 lakh while diesel variants were offered between INR 8.08-9.58 lakh. The visible price gap of around INR 1 lakh is still available in all Maruti cars but here, the petrol variant is much more powerful than any other car available in their current lineup.

SX4 1.6 Petrol was good for 105 HP at 5600 rpm and 145 Nm at 4100 rpm. The engine came with a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, SX4 1.3 Diesel produced 90 HP at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. This engine was fuel efficient as Maruti claimed 21.79 kmpl of mileage from SX4. The car was quite practical as 505 liter of boot space helped the owner during long family drives while 50-liter fuel tank resulted in high overall driving range. Even 180 mm of ground clearance was passenger friendly with lesser chances of body scraping against the ground.

Maruti SX4 measures 4500 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1560 mm in height. Wheelbase was also quite healthy at 2500 mm. It came with decent 206/60 wheel wrapped on 16-inch alloy wheels. It was one among a limited number of Maruti cars to have automatic climate control and electrically adjustable mirrors at that time. Leather seats and navigation unit was offered on the top spec variant. Safety was given first preference here as SX4 came with dual front airbags at that time. It was bought more with a diesel engine due to high mileage.
