Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Ertiga is best for buyers who need a versatile family car for both city use and occasional long trips. Its compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre in urban settings, while the comfortable interiors and decent luggage space (with the third row folded) cater well to highway journeys.

Recent news and announcements

I have reviewed the latest information on the Maruti Ertiga in India, and I find this MPV continues to offer exceptional value for families seeking a practical seven-seater solution. The current price range spans from Rs 8.80 lakh to Rs 12.94 lakh ex-showroom, making it one of the most affordable options in its segment. The K15C Smart Hybrid petrol engine delivers 101.64 bhp and achieves a commendable 20.51 kmpl mileage with the manual transmission, while the CNG variant impressively reaches 26.11 km/kg. I appreciate how Maruti has maintained excellent space utilization with 209 litres of boot capacity despite the non-removable third-row seats. The feature set has been thoughtfully curated across variants, with the top models offering automatic climate control, wireless smartphone connectivity via a nine-inch touchscreen, and paddle shifters for automatic transmissions. The six-speed automatic transmission on higher variants provides refined highway cruising compared to older four-speed options. What truly stands out is Maruti's extensive service network across India, ensuring hassle-free ownership. The 180mm ground clearance handles Indian road conditions well, while the 5.2-metre turning radius proves beneficial in congested urban environments, making the Ertiga a genuinely practical family MPV.

I have reviewed the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga extensively and find it remains one of India's most practical family MPVs for budget-conscious buyers. The current lineup offers nine variants starting from Rs 8.80 lakh ex-showroom, with on-road pricing reaching Rs 14.99 lakh for the top ZXI Plus Smart Hybrid AT. The K15C Smart Hybrid engine delivers 101.65 bhp and impressive fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl in petrol-manual form, while the CNG variant achieves 26.11 km/kg, making it economical for high-mileage users. I appreciate the spacious seven-seater layout with 209 litres of boot space, decent 180mm ground clearance, and comfortable middle-row seating with a centre armrest. The infotainment system includes a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, complemented by automatic climate control in higher variants and rear AC vents across most trims. However, I note the base LXI variant lacks essential features like rear AC vents and remote central locking. The third-row seats suit only short trips for adults. Overall, the Ertiga strikes a compelling balance between affordability, practicality, and efficiency for families needing comfortable transportation without premium pricing.

The Maruti Ertiga continues to impress me as one of India's most practical and affordable family MPVs, starting at Rs. 8.80 lakh ex-showroom. I find its 1462cc Smart Hybrid petrol engine delivers a commendable 20.51 kmpl with the manual transmission, while the automatic variant achieves 20.3 kmpl, making it genuinely efficient for daily commuting. The CNG option, which I consider ideal for cost-conscious buyers, returns an impressive 26.11 km/kg. What strikes me most is the spacious three-row seating for seven occupants paired with a 550-litre boot space, perfect for Indian families. The interior impresses with its dual-tone finish, third-row AC with three-stage control, and the 9-inch SmartPlay Pro touchscreen offering wireless connectivity. Safety-wise, I appreciate the standard six airbags and ABS across variants. The simple yet elegant dashboard design with faux wooden trim creates an airy cabin ambiance. Ground clearance of around 180mm handles Indian road conditions well. Available in seven colours, the Ertiga offers solid value through its ZXi manual variant at Rs. 12.71 lakh or the VXi automatic at Rs. 13.04 lakh, both providing excellent features without stretching budgets.

The Maruti Ertiga continues to impress me as a practical and value-for-money 7-seater MPV for Indian families seeking spacious interiors without breaking the bank. Starting at Rs. 8.80 lakh ex-showroom, it offers genuine versatility with a 1462cc K15C Smart Hybrid petrol engine delivering 101.65 bhp and 136.8 Nm torque, achieving a commendable 20.51 kmpl with the 5-speed manual transmission. The newer automatic variants now feature a more refined torque converter, though fuel economy dips slightly to 20.3 kmpl. What strikes me most is Maruti's commitment to the CNG segment, offering the S-CNG variant with 86.63 bhp and exceptional efficiency at 26.11 km/kg, making it ideal for high-mileage users. The cabin design impresses with its layered dashboard, 9-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, and thoughtfully placed AC vents across all three rows. While the third-row remains tight for adults on longer journeys, the 209-litre boot expands when seats fold. Ground clearance stands at 180-185mm, providing decent highway confidence. Maruti's omnipresent service network and proven reliability make ownership stress-free, making the Ertiga my go-to recommendation for budget-conscious families needing genuine practicality.

Maruti improved the CNG variant's fuel efficiency, increasing it to 26.11 km/kg, making it one of the most fuel-efficient MPVs in its segment.

Expert Verdict

Professional reviews and expert opinions on Maruti Ertiga

So I’ve been looking at the Maruti Ertiga, which, if you’re after a practical family ride that doesn’t feel too bulky, is got a lot going for it.

So I’ve been looking at the Maruti Ertiga, which, if you’re after a practical family ride that doesn’t feel too bulky, is got a lot going for it. One of those cars that the more you look closely, the more you realize Maruti put in to make this a comfy, no nonsense family car.

Let’s start with the design.

This kind of understated style works for the kind of Ertiga that had it. But in a way that’s not trying to be flashy there’s a clean practical look that’s actually kind of refreshing. Nothing over the top here as we have a bit of flair to the front grille with those chrome accents. The headlights are sharp and it’s tall and balanced out well, which I like. These subtle creases on the body make it feel a little more refined than some typical MPV. I really like that Maruti didn’t go for that overly boxy or van like design. Instead, it feels more like a roomier car able to bear family outings without feeling like a bus.

Here’s what’s under the hood, now.

The Ertiga features a 1.5 litre unit and it certainly isn’t a quick car, but it's more than enough for a daily pint. Not a performance monster, with about 103 horsepower it does the job without fuss. It’s just enough power to keep you comfortable on highways, and I’ve driven it on them. And for city driving? Actually it has a good balance , you never feel it’s struggling, mileage is a big bonus. 19 kmpl is an amazing number when you’re trying to keep your fuel expense at bay and I’m talking around it. If not that looking to break some speed records but wanting something that is reliable and oh also easy on the wallet, the Ertiga’s engine seems just right.

It’s kind of got a light feel to it once you step inside.

The dual tone interior of the cabin is rather spacious and airy providing you with something that feels just that little bit nicer than you might have expected. This wooden finish is subtle but adds class without trying to, making the dashboard a very simple but simple process. The infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, touchscreen and all such things is something you would expect from a car, with ease… And space? There’s plenty of it. The Ertiga has three rows, but it’s surprisingly got three rows of seats. You can actually sit back there, although I’d stick to short trips. You have tons of cargo space when you need it because if you’re not using all the seats, they fold down so easily. For family trips, grocery hauls, or any other situation where you need a little more space, it’s great.

However, one thing I really like about the Ertiga’s handling. It’s light, responsive, and easy to get around, honestly it doesn’t feel like you’re driving a big car. It’s Maruti, who really got that balance between size and handling so even in tight spots or parking you don’t feel like you’re wrestling with it. It’s a comfortable ride all around because the suspension — very much on the softer side — soaks up those typical road bumps and potholes. If you’re taking sharper turns there’s a bit of body roll, not much though. As a family vehicle, that is really what you want, and it feels well balanced and comfortable.

Comparisons

If so, chances are you’re looking at the Toyota Innova and Mahindra Marazzo. The Innova has that rock solid reputation, and more power under the hood, for a bit more money. Then there is the Marazzo which doesn’t feel as light and easy as the Ertiga, especially in city driving. In my opinion, the Ertiga makes a happy compromise between its offering of comfort, affordability and things that aren’t there that you don’t need in a big MPV. One thing I liked about Maruti was they didn’t overdo any of it, they knew exactly whom they were making this car for, that was the beauty of it.

So, it’s not the flashiest car on the road, then, but it is a solid reliable choice for folks looking for a family car that is efficient, easygoing, and practical. There’s something special about it, I feel comfortable in it whether I’m taking the family around or doing some errands. Would you fit into one of these? So if you prefer something which is simple and functional, I think it’s worth considering.
