Mahindra XUV500 4x4 W10 (Diesel)
Mahindra Variant
General information and overview
The Mahindra XUV500 4x4 W10 (Diesel) is a well-rounded SUV that boasts several key features. It is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, producing 155PS and 360Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle has a monocoque chassis, which provides better ride comfort on typical tarred surfaces and decent ground clearance of 200mm for occasional off-road use. The interior is plush with tan leather upholstery, an electric sunroof, and rear AC vents, making the cabin feel airy and spacious. Safety is well taken care of with features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control. The XUV500 also comes with modern conveniences such as the Mahindra Blue Sense App, cruise control, and automatic climate control. Overall, it is a comfortable, efficient, and feature-rich SUV that meets the diverse needs of Indian buyers.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Mahindra XUV500 4x4 W10 (Diesel) is a robust and feature-packed SUV that caters well to the needs of Indian consumers. While it has its strengths, such as improved styling, a neater interior trim, and generous storage space, it also has some drawbacks. The engine, though powerful with 155PS and 360Nm of torque, can sound gruff at lower revs. The 6-speed automatic transmission is smooth but tends to shift up gears early, which can limit flat-out acceleration. However, for daily driving, it performs satisfactorily. The ride comfort is commendable, especially with the fine-tuned rear suspension developed in conjunction with Lotus. Despite some body roll in corners, the overall comfort and efficiency make it a comfortable cruiser. Safety features are comprehensive, including six airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control. Overall, its a solid choice for those seeking a spacious, feature-rich SUV with good performance and comfort.
Recent news and announcements
Mahindra has announced that the XUV500 nameplate will be revived in the Indian market, with the new model expected to launch by mid-2022. The 2022 XUV500 is likely to be priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom) and will feature a 5-seater layout, a significant change from the previous 7-seater configuration. I think this move could help Mahindra compete more effectively in the mid-size SUV segment.
The upcoming Mahindra XUV500 is expected to come with the same engine options as the Mahindra Thar, including a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine, both available with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. This should provide a good balance of power and fuel efficiency. I believe the addition of these engine options will make the XUV500 more appealing to a wider range of buyers.
Mahindra has discontinued the previous generation of the XUV500, which was known for its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and comprehensive features like an electric sunroof, cruise control, and a premium sound system. The new model is expected to retain many of these features while introducing some new ones. I think the discontinuation was a necessary step to make way for a more modern and competitive offering.
The previous Mahindra XUV500 W10 (Diesel) was praised for its refined styling, neat interior trim, and generous storage space. It featured a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 103 kW and 330 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. I believe the new model will build on these strengths to offer an even better driving experience.
Mahindra had fine-tuned the rear suspension of the XUV500 in collaboration with Lotus, enhancing the ride comfort significantly. The vehicle also boasted a range of convenience features, including an electrically adjustable drivers seat, voice command control, and built-in navigation. I think this attention to detail will continue in the new model, making it a comfortable and feature-rich option.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Mahindra XUV500 4x4 W10 (Diesel)
Mahindra has gone far this time with its most effective offering, the XUV500. The all-time favourite has turned into a more complicated version of itself, receiving a facelift which was being planned from a long time ago. Every mechanical feature of the car remains the same, with the changes being only cosmetic throughout the trims. A new additional trim named W10 is also to be introduced, having more features than the mighty W8.

The honeycomb grill below the headlights have been replaced with a black and chrome finished fog lamp, which extends itself nearly to the headlight. Minor chrome inserts into the center grill looks fabulous.

The interior gets an all-new 7 inch touchscreen, DVD compatible infotainment system. The system turns in the reverse parking assistant when needed, with a functionality of zoom also available. The interior goes black and beige for the new offering, with the availability of a start/stop button also.
