Mahindra KUV100 Diesel K2

About
The Mahindra KUV100 Diesel K2 is a compact vehicle with an SUV-like design, targeting buyers who want the appeal of an SUV without the higher price tag. It comes with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder diesel engine producing 77 bhp and 190 Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The car features a unique seating arrangement, including a 33 seating option, though the middle seat in the front row lacks proper safety features. The KUV100 has good ground clearance at 170mm and a Cayman Dynamics tuned suspension, which handles bumps and potholes well. However, it lacks several key features in the base K2 variant, such as power windows and central locking. The interior is spacious with generous headroom, but legroom is limited. Overall, its a vehicle that offers a blend of city-focused driving and SUV aesthetics, but its feature set and reliability issues need careful consideration before making a purchase decision.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mahindra KUV100 Diesel K2 is a mixed bag when it comes to overall performance and value. On the positive side, the 1.2-litre three-cylinder diesel engine is surprisingly peppy, especially with its low inertia turbocharger and 190Nm of torque kicking in at 1750rpm. This makes it quite enjoyable to drive, especially in city conditions. The gearbox is a joy to use with short throws and light shift quality, and the brakes are commendable with ABS and EBD as standard. However, the K2 variant lacks several key features such as power windows, central locking, and airbags, which are significant omissions at this price point. Additionally, the engines refinement and the cars overall build quality have been criticized, with issues like loose gear knobs and defunct indicators reported by some owners. While it offers a unique SUV-like appeal and decent interior space, its limitations in terms of features and reliability make it a less compelling choice compared to other options in the same price bracket.
Price
The Mahindra KUV100 Diesel K2 was priced at around Rs. 5.48 lakh ex-showroom when it was available. On-road prices would typically range between Rs. 6 to 7 lakhs, depending on the state and local taxes. While this pricing positioned the KUV100 competitively in the hatchback segment, its important to consider the lack of features in the base K2 variant. For the on-road price of the K2, you could also consider top-end variants of other hatchbacks or compact sedans that offer more features and proven reliability. The value for money is questionable, especially when you factor in the additional costs for aftermarket fittings to bring it up to par with more feature-rich competitors.
Latest Updates
Monday, 03 June 2019 06:52 AM Mahindra has announced the discontinuation of the diesel version of the KUV100, including the K2 variant, due to the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) regulations. This move is part of the companys plan to overhaul its powertrain portfolio. The KUV100 will now be available only in petrol and electric versions. I believe this decision will impact the vehicles appeal to those who prefer diesel engines, but it aligns with the industrys shift towards cleaner emissions.
Wednesday, 04 October 2017 09:38 AM The Mahindra KUV100 NXT, including the K2 variant, received a facelift in 2017, which included cosmetic changes and additional features. However, the mechanical aspects, including the engine, remained unchanged. This update aimed to enhance the vehicles appeal with new styling and improved interior features. I think the facelift was a necessary step to keep the KUV100 competitive in the market.
Monday, 24 July 2017 01:54 AM The Mahindra KUV100, including the K2 diesel variant, was known for its safety features such as ABS with EBD, dual front airbags (except for the base K2), and other safety enhancements like speed-sensing auto-door locks and ISOFIX child seat mounts in higher variants. These features were a significant selling point, especially for safety-conscious buyers. I believe these safety features were a strong selling point for the KUV100.
Thursday, 18 February 2016 03:42 AM The Mahindra KUV100 K2 diesel variant was part of the initial launch in 2016, which saw significant demand with over 21,000 bookings in the first month. The vehicles unique design and compact SUV stance were major attractions. I think the initial success was a testament to Mahindras ability to tap into the sub-compact SUV market.
Sunday, 17 January 2016 12:19 PM The Mahindra KUV100 K2 diesel variant was powered by a 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 turbocharged diesel engine, producing 77 bhp and 190 Nm of torque. This engine was designed for urban efficiency and came with features like micro-hybrid technology and Eco and Power drive modes. I believe this engine was a good fit for city driving, offering a balance between power and fuel efficiency.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 07:18 AM The Mahindra KUV100 Diesel K2 boasts an ARAI claimed fuel efficiency of 25.32 kmpl, which is quite impressive for its segment. However, real-world mileage can vary, with some users reporting around 14-15 kmpl. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering both the claimed and real-world fuel efficiencies when making a buying decision. Despite this, the diesel variant remains a good choice for those looking to minimize running costs, especially for city driving.

Company has large network but service quality is very bad. i purchase KUV100 K4 Diesel in March 2016. I met with an accident on 1st May 2016. Bonnet, side body, one door damaged. When I visited Dada motors, Ludhiana's service center, they give me one month time for repair work. Because they have no body parts in stock. This is my fault I bought this car from Mahindra. The customer support person is like a robot!
