Priced from Rs 1.25 crore, it justifies the investment with unmatched versatility, though high running costs demand careful budgeting. For buyers prioritizing capability over fuel efficiency, I recommend it wholeheartedly as a long-term ownership delight.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Land Rover Discovery's ex-showroom prices start at Rs 1.25 crore for the base S trim and go up to Rs 1.37 crore for top variants like HSE Dynamic or Metropolitan, with upcoming 2026 models shifting to Gemini and Tempest editions maintaining similar pricing. On-road prices, including RTO, insurance, and taxes, push this to around Rs 1.45-1.60 crore in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai, varying by location—expect higher in high-tax states like Karnataka. As someone deeply familiar with luxury SUVs, I see this positioning it competitively against rivals like the Mercedes GLS or BMW X7, offering superior off-road credentials and seven-seat flexibility at a slight premium over Discovery Sport. The value shines in its mild-hybrid diesel efficiency and towing might, making it a smart long-term buy despite steep running costs; financing options from Land Rover Financial with low EMIs around Rs 2-2.5 lakh monthly make it accessible for HNIs, and resale holds strong at 70-80% after three years if serviced at authorized dealers.
December 14, 2025
In India, the Land Rover Discovery starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.25 crore for the base S trim, escalating to Rs 1.37-1.39 crore for higher variants like HSE Dynamic and Metropolitan, with upcoming 2026 Gemini and Tempest editions expected to maintain this range. On-road prices in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai add 12-15% in taxes, registration, insurance, and logistics, pushing the base model to around Rs 1.45-1.50 crore and top trims to Rs 1.60-1.65 crore—varying slightly by state due to road tax differences. I view this pricing as premium yet justified for the segment, undercutting rivals like the Mercedes GLS in capability while matching luxury. The ex-showroom figure leaves room for personalization packs, but buyers should factor in 28-30% GST and high insurance premiums for luxury imports. For value-conscious Indians, the diesel-only powertrain minimizes variant confusion, making it a smart buy if you leverage financing options from Land Rover Financial Services to spread costs. Resale holds strong at 70-80% after three years, aiding ownership economics in a market favoring reliable British SUVs.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I note the Discovery's 3.0-litre diesel mild-hybrid achieves around 10-12kmpl in mixed Indian conditions—better than petrol rivals due to the efficient engine and AWD setup. Running costs stay manageable at Rs 15-18 per km with diesel at Rs 90/litre, ideal if you prioritize capability over pure economy; for city-heavy use, it's worth the premium over smaller SUVs.
December 14, 2025
I note the Discovery's ARAI-rated mileage of 8-12.37kmpl for its 3.0-litre diesel, but real-world figures in India drop to 7-9kmpl in mixed city-highway use due to traffic, AWD demands, and premium fuel needs. Running costs suit high-income buyers unconcerned by Rs 15-20 per km totals including maintenance; for mileage-focused decisions, it's viable only if off-road prowess outweighs efficiency—otherwise, consider hybrids.

Professional reviews and expert opinions on Land Rover Discovery

Land Rover Discovery 4 is a fabulous blend of the style of saloon and the performance and off-road capability of the land rover.

To many, the name Land Rover conveys a picture of robust jeep into our minds. To some extent, Land Rover Discovery 4 provides a combination of luxury, power and survivability. The first glance at this vehicle makes one send a silent tribute to power, courage and the spirit of adventure. This vehicle provides luxury while still keeping to the traditions of Land Rover. Land Rover Discovery 4 has an elegant body with five doors and sharp edged body that measure 4.8m in length, 2.17m in width and 1.83m in height. It has a six-speed automatic transmission system and ventilated disk brakes. Discovery 4 is amazingly comfortable for long drives at high speeds and it is custom made for a discoverer. Land Rover Discovery 4 is not a practical choice when used for smooth roads because of its fuel consumption. However for the off-road experience, Discovery 4 does not have a match in terms of strength and endurance.

Exterior

The Land Rover Discovery 4 seems too bold and rugged for the narrow and smooth city roads. To many, this vehicle may look like it is passing by the city heading to a more rugged terrain. For this reason, it attracts discoverers and it may not command a large consumer base. This SUV has unique rear and front bumpers that tell it apart from its predecessors. Its chrome plated front offers a vintage sense just like the flat hood imprinted with the Land Rover trademark towards the final curve. It has pocketed square shaped headlights that are equipped with adaptive Xenon with circular fog lights. For day time running, LED lights are fixed to the major front lamp unit. Discovery 4 has a slightly steeper windscreen as compared to other jeeps and SUVs. The color of the tailgate handle and the wheel arches is blended nicely so that it conforms to the rest of the body. The Exterior rear view mirrors are fixed with a memory function and a power fold system for efficiency. Land Rover Discovery 4 is manufactured on the trademark innovative Integrated Body Frame technique of the Land Rover. Its wheel base is 2885mm and this makes it spacious and comfortable on the inside.

Interior

Land Rover Discovery 4 has comfortable leather seats that can accommodate up to seven passengers who can access entry through its 5 doors. It is a spacious SUV with an automatic, audio control, multifunctional, leather steering wheel. The steering wheel is also fitted with cruise control and jaguar voice control that allows the drivers to conveniently make and receive calls while driving. The driver can access Premium DVD navigation in addition to the classical road map navigation system. The Bluetooth functionality adds the icing to the cake making the drivers interface excellent. There is also a graphical representation of the vehicle which shows the suspension movement, locking differential status, the angle of steering of the front wheels, the gear selected automatically and the current form of the Terrain Response System. Discovery 4 consists of Electric sunroof, fixed glass roof, tilt front glass and power front and rear windows. It has an automatic air quality control feature and an automatic climate control system that enhances comfort of the occupants. Another exciting element is the keyless entrance with power door locks. Discovery 4 offers comfort and luxury to the passengers and driver making one feel at ease within no time. There is a cooler box, a lighter with an ashtray, cup holders, illuminated vanity mirrors etc.

Engine and Gearbox

Discovery 4 is power-driven by a 3.0-Litre TDV6 automatic diesel engine which provides a displacement of 2993cc. The engine has 6-cylinders built in and each cylinder has 4 valves. It has a 6-speed automatic gear box with command shift. The maximum power it delivers is 240 bhp at 4000 rpm with a maximum torque of 600 Nm at 2000 rpm. With this engine, Land Rover Discovery 4 is a more advanced and powerful model than all other Land Rover vehicles.

Mileage

The Land Rover Discovery 4 is a diesel power-driven SUV whose mileage is about 7.5 kmpl. Most SUVs are not linked with fuel economy and this is the reason why Discovery 4 is not very good on the fuel efficiency front. Nevertheless, Land Rover Discovery 4 is better on fuel efficiency than Discovery 3 which was its predecessor. Its new LR-Turbo diesel engine that has V6 cylinders is a highly developed sequential turbo engine that offers modish fuel efficiency.

Acceleration and Performance

Land Rover Discovery 4 is one fast SUV. This much rugged and tough vehicle can accelerate from zero to 100kmph in only 12.5 seconds! Its 3.0-litre diesel engine is combined with an automatic command shift 6-speed transmission gives the vehicle a lot of power and speed to cruise over a long distance in a short time. Other aerodynamic features like the sunroof cuts air thus reducing resistance while the vehicle is in full speed hence acceleration is easier. Land Rover Discovery 4 can reach the top speed of 215 kmph.

Ride and Handling

Land Rover Discovery 4 standard versions is fixed with 19 inch, seven spoke alloy wheels while the premium versions enjoys 19 inch, ten spoke alloy wheels. It consists of tubeless tires that have a tubeless tire fix system. This SUV is fitted with rear and front ventilated disk brakes and the electric parking brake feature. It also has a Hill Descent Control which maintains the grip of the vehicle and its speed on sheer descents by applying the proper brake pressure. The terrain response system is very effective in arranging gear setting, suspension heights, differential lock and pressure according to makes and surfaces of roads. Its independent air suspension system has electronic cross linking which enables ride height alteration to decrease and increase ground clearance according to the surface.

Safety Features

Land Rover Discovery 4 is embodied with several safety features to ensure the safety of the driver and other occupants. The trade mark Land Rover Terrain Response System has received many accolades. It has a two stage front and side airbags. These offer protection to front occupants in event of accidents.

Variants

Land Rover Discovery 4 is available in only one variant: TDV6 Diesel.

Shades

Land Rover Discovery 4 is available in 13 shades: Fuji White, Bali Blue – Metallic, Bourneville, Baltic Blue, Nara Bronze – Metallic, Galway Green, Izmir Blue, Ipanema Sand, Marmaris Teal, Rimini Red, Santorini Black, Stornoway Grey and Zermatt Silve.
