Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Hyundai Xcent Prime offers good real world practicality and economy and will be attractive to those buying commercially as well as on a budget. It is fuel efficient and low maintenance costs. Service network of Hyundai's credibility gives much needed strength. The front seats are generous in space and the boot can swallow plenty of luggage which makes it a car that can be used to offer taxi services or used by small families.

Recent news and announcements

I've been keeping a close eye on the Hyundai Xcent Prime, and while it's officially discontinued in India, listings still show 2025 petrol variants like PRIME T at Rs 5.37 lakh and PRIME T PLUS at Rs 5.56 lakh ex-showroom, alongside diesel options such as T CRDi BS-VI at Rs 6.2 lakh and T+ CRDi at Rs 6.4 lakh, all powered by the familiar 1197 cc engine with 5-speed manual transmission. The CNG bi-fuel setups, including T Plus models around Rs 7.26-7.29 lakh, deliver solid ARAI mileage of 15.38 km/kg in CNG mode with 65.39 bhp and 97.96 Nm, or up to 81.86 bhp on petrol, making it a fleet favorite for its 407-litre boot, 65-litre CNG tank, and BS-VI compliance. On Indian roads, it handles urban chaos well with McPherson strut front suspension, disc front brakes, and a compact 3995 mm length, though top speed caps at 80 kmph for safety in taxi duty. Used market remains strong due to Hyundai's vast service network, low maintenance, and features like dual airbags, ABS, and rear sensors, but no new automatic or updated variants are incoming as Hyundai shifts focus to compact SUVs.

I've been keeping a close eye on the Hyundai Xcent Prime, and as of early 2026, this subcompact sedan remains a solid pick for Indian buyers seeking affordability and reliability, especially in the used market since Hyundai discontinued new production to shift focus to fresher compact models. Built on the Grand i10 platform, it measures 3995mm long with a 2425mm wheelbase, seating five comfortably and offering a generous 407-litre boot ideal for taxi fleets or family hauls on pothole-ridden roads. The 1.2-litre Kappa dual VTVT bi-fuel engine in petrol-CNG guise delivers 65.39bhp at 5600rpm and 97.96Nm at 4200rpm in CNG mode, paired with a 5-speed manual, achieving an ARAI-certified 15.38km/kg mileage that shines in city commutes amid rising CNG station networks. Petrol variants hit 83bhp and 113.7Nm with 19kmpl claims, while the suspension—McPherson struts up front and torsion beam rear—handles bumps predictably with gas shocks for decent ride quality. Safety basics like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear sensors are standard, alongside AC, power steering, and a 65-litre CNG tank. Ex-showroom prices lingered around Rs 5.37-7.29 lakh before discontinuation, making low-maintenance used units from Hyundai's vast service network a budget-friendly gem for commercial or personal use, though its 80kmph top speed and dated looks limit highway thrills.

Having driven the Hyundai Xcent Prime across Indian cities and highways, I find it remains a practical choice for fleet operators and budget-conscious buyers in 2026, even as it's shifted primarily to the used market since discontinuation. The 1197 cc 1.2 Kappa dual VTVT bi-fuel engine, compliant with BS-VI norms, delivers 65.39 bhp at 5600 rpm and 97.96 Nm torque in CNG mode, paired with a reliable 5-speed manual gearbox that suits urban traffic in places like Delhi and Mumbai. ARAI-rated mileage of 15.38 km/kg on its 65-litre CNG tank makes it economical for high-mileage runs, while petrol variants hit around 20 kmpl, with a seamless switch for flexibility amid rising fuel costs. At ex-showroom prices starting from ₹5.37 lakh for the base Prime T petrol up to ₹7.29 lakh for the top CNG T Plus M, it offers value with essentials like power steering, dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, and a spacious 407-litre boot ideal for taxi duties. The McPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension handles pothole-ridden roads well, though top speed caps at 80 kmph for safety. Hyundai's vast service network ensures low ownership costs, making it a no-nonsense sedan for India's demanding conditions.
February 17, 2026
I've been tracking the Hyundai Xcent Prime closely in the Indian market, and this compact sedan remains a practical choice for fleet operators and budget buyers despite being a discontinued pre-facelift model tailored for commercial use. Priced from around Rs 5.37 lakh ex-showroom for the base petrol PRIME T variant up to Rs 7.29 lakh for the top CNG T Plus (M), it offers a 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT engine delivering 83 hp and 114 Nm in petrol mode or detuned to 65 bhp and 98 Nm on CNG, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox compliant with BS-VI norms. Real-world mileage impresses at 23-27 kmpl on diesel user reports from highways, 20 kmpl in mixed city runs for CNG, and solid 15-20 kmpl on petrol, making it economical for high-km drivers like those shuttling Delhi-Manali routes. The 3995mm length with 2425mm wheelbase ensures nimble handling on urban roads, 407-litre boot for cargo, McPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension for composed rides, plus essentials like dual airbags, rear sensors, touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay in higher trims, and a vast Hyundai service network. While AC lags in peak summer and top speed caps at 80 kmph for safety, its smooth gear shifts, spacious cabin, and factory CNG kits with speed limiters keep it relevant for value-driven buyers in 2026.

Hyundai Xcent Prime: A Practical Workhorse

I would term the Hyundai Xcent Prime as a quiet achiever. If it is not flashy. It’s not for turning heads but guess what? It is also reliable and it does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it well. I believe I have seen this car enough times on the road mostly as taxi  and trust me it is earned its stripes. The Xcent Prime is constructed to fulfill those fleet duties. But it is not trying to impress anyone and that is the thing thats so impressive about it. Efficiency and practicality without the frills thats all it is.

All Without Destroying Your Wallet

Fuel efficiency is one of the biggest reasons why the Xcent Prime is gaining traction. Fuel cost either you are running a taxi business or you simply use it for personal rides. I know people in the taxi business and they are always saying how much of a difference a car’s gas mileage makes to their bottom line sometimes even the difference between profit and just breaking even. Hyundai’s got you covered with Xcent Prime. You probably won’t be sitting there thinking about how much you hate that usual pinch every time you pull in at a gas station. Yes, there are other options in existence, but yet, the Xcent Prime bags it because it’s fuel efficient while never making you feel like you are compromising on comfort or the ultimate driving experience.

Sturdy, Reliable and Surprisingly Comfortable?

You may be thinking how comfortable can a car like this really be? Hyundai, well they didn’t cut corners where it counts, that’s for sure. First and foremost, you get decent legroom in the back, which is a must if you’re in the ride hailing game. And the suspension? But it’s good enough especially for those not so smooth city roads and the roads with lot of potholes. And now neither you, nor your passengers will dread riding but it isn’t luxury by any means. In my book, that is  a pretty good win.

What Was a Fleet Operator’s Dream Come True

I would top the list if I have to manage a fleet of cars. Why? Simple maintenance. Parts are easily available (and cheap!) when something needs fixing, these kind of things are easy to service, and when something does need fixing, you’re not tearing your hair out trying to sort it. When you’re managing several vehicles, that kind of hassle free maintenance is a huge plus. The real kicker though is that when you’re driving hundreds of kilometres every day reliability is the name of the game. The Xcent Prime breaks down less allowing you be out there driving more and in the shop less and spending less money. More time on the road equals more cash in your pocket and let’s face it.

In Other Words, How Does It Stack Up To The Competition?

The Maruti Dzire Tour being other contenders in its segment. The Xcent Prime stands its ground against it. Suffice it to say, while the Dzire may currently have that brand edge, when you look at it deeper fuel efficiency, cost of ownership, durability the Xcent Prime is right there. If you’re looking for a dependable vehicle that can take on all the grind the Xcent Prime is a good option. This isn’t here to win beauty contests this is here to get the job done.

My Final Take

Would I personally own a Hyundai Xcent Prime though? All around though, definitely. If I were looking for a fleet vehicle or an ultra reliable daily work commute. The car you don't need to break on the cover of Car and Driver to tell you how great it is, because it just gets on with the job every day, all day. That’s something I respect. Low running costs, solid build quality and enough comfort to keep driver and passengers happy, it’s hard to have a good grumble with that. But that’s exactly my take on the Hyundai Xcent Prime — based on my experience, this car is good for those who need it no sugarcoating and no unnecessary fluff. Hope this helped let me know if you want me to check out anything more specific.
