General information and overview

The Honda Vezel is a premium compact SUV featuring a 1498 cc diesel engine delivering about 98.6 bhp and 200 Nm torque, paired with a manual transmission as standard. It aims to bring Honda’s global SUV ethos to India with a focus on a refined driving experience, robust build quality, and practical interior space. The Vezel targets a segment crowded with competitive options and offers features aligned with modern expectations, including contemporary styling and safety equipment. Although petrol and hybrid variants are discussed internationally, the Indian launch is expected to centre predominantly on the diesel-manual combination, ensuring fuel efficiency and lower running costs. Positioned against established rivals like MG Astor and Skoda Kushaq, it emphasizes Honda’s reliability and driving comfort. The car is expected to launch around late 2025 or early 2026, with prices starting near ₹10 lakh ex-showroom. The vehicle suits customers looking for a diesel-powered, value-oriented compact SUV with a premium touch and efficient performance in Indian traffic conditions.

The Honda Vezel is a compact SUV that has been sold in global markets, but it is not currently available as a new car in India. It typically comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, sometimes paired with a hybrid system, and offers a practical interior with decent space for a compact SUV. Features like a touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, safety aids and a premium cabin feel are part of its appeal in markets where it is sold. However, in India, there is no official launch date, no confirmed engine options and no variant details from Honda. This means no local warranty, no assured service network and no resale value data. For Indian buyers, the Vezel remains a concept rather than a realistic buying option, and it’s better to evaluate Honda’s India-focused SUVs like the Elevate or WR-V, which are designed for our roads, fuel, and ownership costs.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Honda Vezel in India impresses with its refined 1.5-litre diesel engine and balanced performance tailored for city and occasional highway use. The manual transmission offers engaging driving dynamics, although the absence of automatic options may limit its appeal for some in urban settings. The build quality, interior design, and feature set position the Vezel strongly in the sub-compact SUV segment, competing well against rivals like the MG Astor and Skoda Kushaq. It offers a premium feel consistent with Honda’s global standards, with a focus on comfort and reliability. However, the expected pricing around ₹10-14 lakh places it in a competitive bracket where other SUVs offer more variants and powertrain choices, including petrol options. The Vezel’s potential hybrid version would enhance its appeal by addressing efficiency and environmental concerns but remains uncertain for the Indian launch. Overall, it is a solid choice for those prioritizing diesel fuel efficiency, build quality, and a practical yet sophisticated SUV experience without the bells and whistles of automatic transmission or electrification options currently.
December 7, 2025
The Honda Vezel, as it stands in the Indian context, is not a currently available model in the new car market, so recommending it as a fresh purchase isn’t possible right now. Honda has not officially announced its launch in India, and all figures floating online are speculative, based on older global or used car market data. For Indian buyers, this means there’s no official warranty, service package, or assured resale value tied to a locally launched Vezel. If it does come in the future, it will likely slot above the Elevate and compete with compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Until Honda makes a formal announcement with confirmed specs, variants and pricing, it’s safer to consider existing Honda SUVs like the Elevate or WR-V, which are designed and priced keeping Indian conditions in mind. Jumping on an imported or used Vezel today could mean higher running costs, parts unavailability and insurance complications, which isn’t ideal for most buyers.

The new HuNT Package adds outdoorsy elements like roof rails, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and orange accents. Inside, the package includes water- and oil-repellent Fabtech upholstery. I think this package will appeal to those who love adventure and practicality.

This makes the driving experience smoother and quieter. I believe these tweaks will make a noticeable difference for city drivers.

The 2025 Honda Vezel Hybrid is noted for its impressive fuel economy, particularly in urban drives where the electric motor takes the lead. The regenerative braking system further enhances efficiency by converting kinetic energy into electrical energy to recharge the battery. I believe this makes it an attractive option for eco-conscious buyers.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Honda Vezel is expected to launch in India with an ex-showroom price starting approximately from ₹10 lakh, with on-road prices varying by city due to taxes, insurance, and RTO charges; for example, in Ghaziabad, the on-road price begins around ₹14.03 lakh. This pricing places it competitively in the sub-compact SUV market but slightly on the premium side compared to segment leaders. The ₹10-14 lakh bracket pits it against rivals like the MG Astor and Skoda Kushaq, which may offer more powertrain options or features at comparable prices. The premium pricing reflects Honda’s brand positioning and refinement but could limit mass-market appeal initially. Buyers should consider this pricing in terms of the Vezel’s diesel-only (manual) powertrain and potential feature advantages. The on-road price may rise further with optional packages and location-based taxes, so buyers in metros should be prepared for outgoings close to ₹15 lakh. For those keen on a reliable, well-built SUV with diesel efficiency, this pricing is reasonable but demands a strong value-for-money justification against competitors.
December 7, 2025
Honda has not launched the Vezel in India, so there is no official ex-showroom or on-road price available for this model in the Indian market. Any price figures seen online, such as ₹10 lakh or ₹14–18 lakh, are purely speculative estimates based on older global variants or used imports, not official Honda India pricing. In India, ex-showroom prices include manufacturer cost and dealer handling but exclude registration, insurance and other local taxes, while on-road price is what one actually pays at the dealership. Since the Vezel isn’t officially sold here, there’s no fixed variant-wise price list, no RTO registration support and no standard insurance package from Honda. This makes ownership risky and expensive compared to locally available SUVs like the Elevate or City. For Indian buyers, it’s far more practical to go with a model that has a clear price structure, strong service network and resale value, rather than banking on an unconfirmed launch with uncertain pricing.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The Vezel’s 1.5-litre diesel engine promises strong fuel efficiency, which in India translates to a mileage likely around 18-20 km/l under real-world conditions. This makes it a compelling option for buyers focused on lower running costs and better fuel economy, especially compared to petrol alternatives in the segment. Its diesel powertrain ensures less frequent fuel stops and reduced cost per kilometer, ideal for long-distance commuters and city drivers alike. If mileage and overall cost of ownership are priorities, the Vezel’s diesel setup should be a key attraction.
December 7, 2025
Since the Honda Vezel is not officially available in India, there is no certified ARAI mileage figure or real-world fuel efficiency data for Indian conditions. Any mileage numbers seen online are from older global or used variants and may not reflect how the car would perform on Indian roads, with our traffic, fuel quality and driving patterns. Without official engine tuning and transmission calibration for Indian diesel or petrol, actual mileage could be lower than expected, and running costs could be higher due to fuel, maintenance and parts pricing. For buyers prioritising low running costs and good mileage, it’s better to stick with Honda’s India-specific models like the Elevate or City, which have proven efficiency and widespread service support.

Recently, Honda has unveiled the production version of its Urban SUV, Honda Vezel at 2013 Tokyo Motor Show on November 19, 2013 which was first showcased as a concept version at Detroit Motor Show in January 2013. This brand new compact SUV will be launched in Japan and will arrive in European market in 2015. It is also expected to be available in India by 2015 due to increasing competition in compact SUV segment in Indian market. It will arrive in Japan in a petrol (1.5L direct injection engine) and a hybrid model. The hybrid model will feature the Sport Hybrid i-DCD (Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive) which means a 1.5L direct injection petrol engine in combination with a high output electric motor. However, the Indian release will get a petrol (1.5L i-VTEC motor) and a diesel model (1.5L i-DTEC motor). Design and Style

Honda Vezel is based on the same platform as of 2014 Honda Jazz. But, it has got some truly unique features of its own like Exciting H Design in its front fascia. It includes a rear sloping roof line and some sharp body lines as its bigger sibling CR-V, coupe-like styling, hidden rear door handles in the rear window sill and C-pillar, sleek headlamps that flows into the front grille, muscular rear haunches, body colored ORVMs, stylish alloy wheels and large tail lamps to create a cloud of awesomeness and magnificence around it. The wheelbase will be 4300mm approximately. Its interior has not been revealed much but from the one official picture, it shows a fair amount of space, stylish dashboard, CR-V type steering wheel, driver oriented central console, 2014 Jazz based instrument cluster, air-con vents as a large strip on the front passenger side instead of circular or rectangular ones, centrally mounted fuel tank, Honda magic seats, flat floor and many more features to take your breath away. The engines are expected to be the same 1.5L i-DTEC mill from Amaze for the diesel model and same 1.5L i-VTEC from City for the petrol model.

Variants and Shades

Honda Vezel will be available in both petrol and diesel variants in a wide range of beautiful shades at the expected ex-showroom, Delhi prices of INR 11 lakhs for petrol model and INR 12 lakhs for diesel models which may vary.
