Can the 8C Competizione be a future classic?

Absolutely it's a future classic! Limited numbers, gorgeous design, and that V8 sound? It's got all the ingredients. It also meant Alfa's return to the US market. It'll be the last of the late 2000s Italian exotics.
Can the 8C Competizione be a future classic?

I'm not so sure. It's rare and pretty, yeah, but the driving experience apparently isn't all that. To be a future classic, you’ve got to be great to drive, not just great to look at. It could very well end up as more of a curiosity than a true classic.
Can the 8C Competizione be a future classic?

In my book it’s already a classic. One of those cars that’s out of its time is the 8C. It doesn’t look like anything else on the road, and that alone will ensure its place in automotive history.
Can the 8C Competizione be a future classic?

I don't think it'll be a traditional classic, but it's definitely going to be a future classic. It is more likely to be appreciated as an automotive art than for its performance. It’s kind of like the Miura now.
Can the 8C Competizione be a future classic?

It’s hard to think of the 8C not being a classic. It has that perfect balance of beauty, rarity and a legendary badge. It's not perfect to drive, but neither are a lot of classics. The experience is all about it and the 8C does just that.
Can the 8C Competizione be a future classic?

I’d say that it’s somewhat of a dark horse for future classic status. While it may not be as well known as some of its contemporaries, it might actually be to its advantage. It could be one of those 'forgotten' gems that suddenly skyrocket in value in 20 years.
Can the 8C Competizione be a future classic?

What Alfa does next determines whether it becomes a true classic. The 8C's status is assured, if they never make another flagship like this. If they do come out with something even more spectacular, it could eclipse the 8C. Only time will tell.
So what’s the deal with the 8C’s gearbox?
30 January 2025 10:01
The 8C's Achilles' heel is definitely its gearbox. That’s clunky, slow and doesn’t do justice to that amazing V8. Sure it was the thing back then, but man, what a car it would be with a modern dual clutch.
So what’s the deal with the 8C’s gearbox?
30 January 2025 10:01
I actually do not mind the gearbox. It’s not as smooth as modern transmissions, but that’s part of the car’s character. You know, it makes you work for it. It's part of the experience.
So what’s the deal with the 8C’s gearbox?
30 January 2025 10:01
The gearbox, we'll be honest, is quite terrible by today’s standards. This was cutting edge tech when the 8C came out, but you've got to remember that. All of these things are part of what makes the car a time capsule of that era of automotive design.
So what’s the deal with the 8C’s gearbox?
30 January 2025 10:01
I believe the gearbox gets a hard time. It’s not perfect, but it’s not supposed to be. It's supposed to be a bit raw, and engaging. Buy a Lexus if you want smooth and effortless.
So what’s the deal with the 8C’s gearbox?
30 January 2025 10:01
It’s a love it or hate it kind of thing. Personally, I love it. Sure it has quirks, but every drive is an event. You’ve got to plan ahead, think about your shifts. The modern auto is more involving.
So what’s the deal with the 8C’s gearbox?
30 January 2025 10:01
I think the gearbox criticism is overblown. Is it the best? No. But it's far from the worst. It also is pretty fun, actually, in manual mode once you get used to it. Managing your expectations is what it’s all about.
So what’s the deal with the 8C’s gearbox?
30 January 2025 10:01
The 8C's chain definitely has a weak link and that is the gearbox. But you know what? I kind of like that. That makes it human, gives the car a flaw. Perfect cars are boring anyway.
How does the 8C compare to modern Alfas?
30 January 2025 10:01
The modern Alfas are in a different league to the 8C. The new stuff is more mainstream luxury, while it's a proper exotic. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is a beast, but it doesn't have the same special sauce as the 8C, don't get me wrong.
How does the 8C compare to modern Alfas?
30 January 2025 10:01
In fact I think modern Alfas are better in many ways. The Quadrifoglio models are proper performance cars, and they're more usable, just as stylish. But the 8C is gorgeous, and it's more like a rolling sculpture than a driver's car.
How does the 8C compare to modern Alfas?
30 January 2025 10:01
It's apples and oranges, really. That is to say, the 8C was a halo car, a statement piece. Alfas are trying to compete with BMW and Mercedes in modern times. The two have their merits, but I’d miss the boldness of something like the 8C in the current lineup.
How does the 8C compare to modern Alfas?
30 January 2025 10:01
The modern Alfas could run, so the 8C walked. Alfa was put back on the map for performance and style. They're not as exotic as the new cars, but they are carrying that torch of driving pleasure and Italian flair.
How does the 8C compare to modern Alfas?
30 January 2025 10:01
I would say cars like the Giulia GTA are the spirit of the 8C. In a more modern, usable package, it’s got that same sense of occasion. It's not that Alfa has lost its mojo, it's just evolved.
How does the 8C compare to modern Alfas?
30 January 2025 10:01
It's more special, it feels more Alfa Romeo if that makes sense. Great cars, the modern Alfas, but they feel a bit more... normal? The 8C was unapologetically Italian and unapologetically quirky. I miss that.
