Bentley Bentayga SUV

Bentley's first production SUV, first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015 is a four seat (with optional five-seat) luxury SUV called - The Bentley Bentayga. The SUV features a uni-body construction, and complete all-wheel drive. The car is equipped with a Volkswagen Group W12 engine, and is based on Volkswagen MLB platform. The Bentley Bentayga, which the company claims to be the fastest and most luxurious SUV in the world, carries under its bonnet a might powerful 12 cylinder W12 engine, which churns out a power of over 600 horses and sprints from zero to go in just 4.10 seconds. Seems Bentley's claim about Bentayga being the fastest SUV certainly holds true!

Design and Style

The luxurious Bentley Bentayga isn't just a conventional SUV, the Bentley designers have carefully crafted, what they call – A timeless design. Sang yup LEE, Bentley's exterior designer believes that the Bentayga is a different kind of a luxury all together. Bentley has used a high quality materials, a blend of aluminum castings with extra-strength steel. The curves you get to see on the Bentayga have been carefully designed to perfection with the help of hot super-form technology. A well sculpted power line runs through to the flank, over to the wheel arch on the front.

The car's matrix grille, and four headlights on the front give the SUV a classic Bentley appearance. The design team has pushed their limits while designing perfectly sculpted one-piece fender featuring a unique light design. Aluminum with super-form technology was used to give shape to the fender panel, while precisely creating a crease with 3mm radius and the beautiful sculpting that runs along the car. Lee believes that Bentayga's twin headlights offer a perfect blend of technology and jewelery. The lights feature knurled beveling on the inside.

We also see a Bentley logo crafted deep inside the LED lights which are fully adaptive, and appear as if floating on the car's bodywork. The car's amazing bright ware, and 22” masculine aluminum wheels make the car quite an eye catcher! The Bentayga also features a very innovative event seat which you can slide out of the car's rear and enjoy the view around you. The event seat, patented by Bentley, is a sliding and fold-able seat trimmed with leather and diamond finishing. The event seat can also be used as a luggage divider.

Interiors

The interiors of the Bentley Bentayga have been handcrafted by experts in Crewe. The interior is graceful, sophisticated, and completed with the most perfect materials. Effectively unmistakable from outside the vehicle, the sewed shoulders resound the conservative squares and fine customizing of exemplary shooting coats, giving an enticing look at the beauty inside. The entire lodge is overwhelmed with light from the all encompassing rooftop, adding to the feeling of space, solace and extravagance. According to Darren Day, head of interior design, Bentley, the car features a winged design on its dash quite similar to one seen on a Mulsanne, but with the addition of upper and lower wings.

Technological gizmos have been beautifully integrated in the car's extravagant interiors.

There's an eight inch touchscreen, night vision and a head-up display. The rear passenger seat of the Bentley is equipped with a 10.2 inch android tablet. Day believes that rear passengers will feel the same opulence as their front counterparts. Diamond quilting can be seen on the top of the leather seats and side bolsters. The leather has been treated to six months solar landing to ensure high quality. Besides this, 15 pieces of hand-selected veneers have been used all around the car's interior. The 430 liter boot can be opened via hands-free tailgate. However, the car feels a little smaller in the back when compared to the Range Rover. All said and done, the Bentayga is definitely an epitome of luxury.

Dimensions and Weight

The Bentley Bentayga is 5141mm in length, 2223mm in width, 1742 mm in height and the weight is 2422 kg(wet). The SUV stretches across a wheelbase of 2992mm. It has an 85 liter fuel tank and a 430 liter boot. The Bentayga is much bigger than the Audi Q7, or the Porsche Cayenne but has a wheelbase, little smaller, than the luxurious Range Rover Sport.

Power and Performance

The Bentayga has tremendous force, execution and the mechanical prowess to tackle even the most difficult landscapes. Now, to tack such tough terrains, Bentley has made relentless changes to the engine, upgrading it to one of the most powerful, you'd see in an SUV. The W12 petrol engine equipped with Variable Displacement, has proven to be one of the most technologically advanced 12-cylinder engines in the world.

The rig displacing over 5950cc and producing a power output of 600 horses at 5250 rpm and peak torque of 900 NM between 1250 to 4500 rpm, which Bentley claims is the “best combination of power, torque and efficiency in any SUV.” The engine also features a combination of direct and port injection technology aiding the engine in delivering top-class performance. The car's engine is mated to an 8-speed Automatic Transmission.

The Bentayga is extremely fast, and mighty powerful. The SUV can sprint from zero to go in just 4 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h). The car's revised W12 engine delivers 5 to 90% torque in just 1.1 seconds, making it much faster than its predecessor.

The Bentley Bentayga is the first Bentley to feature engine Stop-Start technology. Besides, reducing engine load when the car is stationary, it also rests the engine at near-stop speeds. The engine also has a microsecond monitoring system to reduce emissions and better the engine's working. The car also gets a 48V electronic active roll that improves response times and automatically minimizes body roll.

Colors and options

There's no dearth of colors in the Bentley Bentayga and the personalization options are unlimited. The SUV is offered in an extensive variety of standard and exceptional paint hues and wraps up. Bentley also offers an option to paint the car in the shade of your choice.

Potential customers can coordinate with their paint specialists and create a completely unique shade. Bentley offers over 15 interior hide colors include three duo-tones and a sporty monotone. Lavish carpets come as standard, matching the car's color tone. Besides this, even the seat belts are colored in congruent to the car’s color scheme.

Price and Rivals

Bentley's extraordinary SUV is priced at INR 3.85 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The car rivals the likes of Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne. Bentley has confirmed a hybrid and a diesel variant will follow up soon.
