Will the Himalayan 450's less expensive price tag and slightly lower feature set cannibalize sales from the Bear 650's more premium features?

No, they go after different riders. If you’re a serious off road enthusiast, the Himalayan 450 is for you, however, if you are more the urban rider who occasionally takes trails, the Bear 650 is for you.

So I think there will be some cannibalization. If the price difference isn’t great, many will be tempted to buy the bigger engine.

RE knows what they're doing. However, it’s likely that the Bear 650 is going to be priced much higher, keeping things very separate.

I am actually confused now as someone in the market for an ADV bike. For my mostly on-road use, the Bear 650 seems more attractive.

The Himalayan 450 has an edge in true off road capability. It will still be preferred by real adventure riders over the heavier Bear 650.

I think RE is smart to provide options. Not everyone needs a full ADV bike like the Himalayan, but they still desire something that looks rugged.

Marketing is going to be the difference. RE can coexist without too much overlap if they position these bikes correctly.
Is the Bear 650’s lack of tubeless tires a deal breaker for its adventure touring credentials?

Absolute deal-breaker. Any bike with adventure touring aspirations needs tubeless tires. What RE dropped the ball on here.

That’s not ideal but it’s not the end of the world. You see plenty of tube tire bikes on tours. If you just carry a spare tube, no problems.

People are overreacting, I think. The Bear 650 isn’t designed for hardcore off road use. Tube tires are fine for what you are going to use them for.

I wish RE had gone tubeless as a person who’s had to change a tube on the side of the road. It’s a big convenience factor.

Not a deal breaker, but disappointing none the less. Yet the Bear 650 still looks like an appealing overall package.

It just goes to show that RE doesn’t really understand the adventure touring market. Any bike in this category should come tubeless.

Tube tires look and feel classic, and I actually prefer them. You don’t need cutting edge technology for everything.

It's a missed opportunity. At least RE could have given tubeless as an option too, to cater both to traditionalists and adventure enthusiasts.
But, is the Bear 650 just a beefed up Interceptor or does it bring anything new to the table?
07 January 2025 11:14
It’s clearly more than just a beefed up Interceptor. It’s a whole new riding experience, if you’re into light off roading, due to the suspension upgrades and different ergonomics.

It's the same bike, come on, just with new clothes. RE is doing the 650 platform without any real innovation.

I’d put it as somewhere in between. The changes are more than cosmetic, but not revolutionary. RE’s decision to diversify their lineup without the need for a new platform is a smart one.

I can see the appeal of the Bear 650 as an Interceptor owner. Some of the issues I've had (such as the need of better suspension) are addressed. This is not a cosmetic upgrade.

It’s a parts bin special, let’s be real. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. It’s a proven platform that has been tweaked to be more versatile. You don’t always have to reinvent the wheel.
