Overview of Toyota Etios

Toyota India unvieled its all new small car Etios Hatchback and Etios Sedan concept at the Auto Expo 2010. The diesel variants of both the versions will feature the same engine which we have seen in Corolla Altis diesel. In addition to India, the Toyota Etios (the name means 'the origin of') hatchback - Etios Liva will also be sold in Russia, South America and perhaps other emerging markets. The overall build quality of Etios and Etios Liva is not upto the mark and many owners are facing problems, some of them have even sold their car. Know more about Etios Diesel here.

Fast Facts about Toyota Etios

- Etios Launched - Five Variants - J, G, G Option, V and VX
- The hatchback version is Etios Liva

- Etios sedan powered by a 1496cc 4 cylinder in-line petrol engine
- Maximum power of Etios is 89 bhp at 5600 rpm
- Maximum torque of 132 nm at 3000 rpm
- Centrally mounted instrument cluster and steering mounted audio controls
- Safety features includes dual SRS airbags and ABS with EBD

Price of Toyota Etios

The prices of Toyota Etios seems to be very competitive considering the fact that it is a Toyota and the build quality is top notch. But less price doesn't mean that base variant will sell in huge numbers, buyers also want good looks and loads of features in a car of this segment. It is expected that the demand for "V" and "VX" variants will be more in comparison to the base variants. The overall build quality of Etios and Etios Liva is not upto the mark and many owners are facing problems, some of them have even sold their car.

Dimensions and Luggage Space of Toyota Etios

Toyota Etios has an overall length of 4265mm, 1695mm of width, 1510mm of height and 170mm of ground clearance. Etios carries the USP of typical toyota cars - space, comfort and reliability. Etios has a wheelbase 2550mm and sufficient luggage space of 595 litres.

Design and Styling of Toyota Etios

- Very basic and simple design
- Six spoke alloy wheels
- Rear lights resembles tail lights of Logan
- Chrome finish smiling front grille

On the outside, the Etios has sharp styling cues with a big smiling grille that has been high-mounted especially for India. The car has a h4 shoulder line with an upward cut along the bottom of the door. Sculpted surface and dynamic character-line in the front and rear, enhance the presence of the Etios. The rear has a fluent flowing C pillar, rounded end and three-dimensional combination lamps that enrich the vehicle's exterior from different angles. The top variant of Etios features six spoke alloy wheels, Body coloured outside rear side view mirrors and door handles. But the design of Etios has nothing to boast about, it seems to be very simple, basic and bland. The Hatchback version of Etios looks much more proportioned and well balanced in comparison to bland looking sedan variant. The sporty body kit installed on the Etios Liva will not be available as a standard feature, it is expected that it will be offered as a option to the prospective buyers.

Interiors and Comfort Features of Toyota Etios

Interiors on the Etios are quite contemporary and the Etios sports a centrally mounted instrument panel with offset AC vents. Etios offers more space on the inside with roomy interiors as compared to its direct competition, the Swift. The instrument cluster including the speedometer and tripmeter, is placed at the middle of the dashboard while the AC vents are in round shape. The 3 spoke steering wheel comes in dual tone along with the rest of the interior. Toyota Etios has modern interiors which look attractive and decent. A class-first ‘clean air filter’ which is standard across all grades for purified air in the cabin.

Toyota Etios offers all the features like we have seen in other C segment cars which includes Power steering, Power windows, Remote central locking, Dash integrated music system, Steeing mounted audio controls, Rear defogger, Steering adjustment and various other features offering maximum comfort to the passengers. Etios also features a 2 DIN music system which will be a MP3 and FM system with factory fitted 4 speakers.  Toyota Etios features Electric power steering for excellent maneuverability and tilt steering ensures a good ergonomic driving experience. The steering comes with audio controls for comfort at the driver’s fingertips. The flat type rear floor design offers ease of movement for rear seat passengers. With its rigid body structure and world class Mac Pherson Strut, the Etios has superior dampening performance providing superior ride comfort.

Interior Color Combinations

I purchased Etios G 4 months back and i have completed 2000 kms as of now. After running the vehicle i really feel that i have taken one of the best decisions to go for Etios. Splendid vehicle, ideal for middle class, brand value, value for money. What else you want ?

My detailed review is as below: Exterior: The car in black looks big and awesome, the front grill is a beauty. Beauty in the back side might improve if the name plate is shifted to the centre of the boot. Otherwise it is fantastic. Interior: (Features, Space & Comfort) Variant 'G' comes with black seat covers, i have put beige and red seat covers on the same which has enhanced the beauty of this car 3 folds. Also, I have added beige floor mat which gives a fantastic appearance when u enter inside the car. I have read lot of review regarding the quality of plastics used but i don't agree entirely with this since we are looking for VFM.

I have read lot of reviews regarding cabin noise, please note these are rubbish and no where near truth. Some detractors strategically are writing reviews in all websites which is no way near truth. You have to own the car to believe it. It is a fantastic car to drive with minimum 5 people in it. The space it provides at the back side is no way comparable even to higher end sedans in the market. Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox This is where Etios scores 150 upon 100. Excellent engine, very peppy, you will be running number one in the highway. Excellent responsive engine.

Fuel economy i am getting about 12-13 in city driving with a/c. I am getting 18-19 in highways. Might have been better for a middle class sedan but the pleasure the car gives, i can forego 1 or 2 kms on fuel economy. Ride Quality & Handling Excellent ride quality and handling, steering is a beauty. I used to struggle to park M800 but Etios is a cake walk. The steering while driving will give u a fantastic feel you will not feel the tiredness even if you drive 200-300 kms in a stretch. Very stable in high speeds like 120-130, actually you will not feel you have touched this speed until you see the speedo.

Final Words Every day i drive my car in Chennai traffic to my office or when i take my family on a weekend, i have started loving the car more and more. I am not a sales man for Toyota, this is my ownership experience and on hand experience. Final word A car every middle class family should own. You will never be disappointed.

Now a days in Chennai, even high class families have started using this car. Great breakthrough, thanks to toyota for giving this excellent product. Areas of improvement Mileage has to be a bit more than what it is giving but not at the cost of current engine performance.

Simple Guide to making a Cheap Car: THE TOYOTA ETIOS DESIGN GUIDE ------------------------------------------------------------------- Prime Directive: Find the most lousy and discontinued model by Toyota to base the Etios on. Then try to go even lower. 1. Leave out all essentials like door trims, wipers etc. 2. Use the thinnest metal for the body works. 3. Use even thinner metal for bonnet and boot frame, and other secondary areas. (Note to designers, treat all areas as secondary.) Use Coke can metal as base thickness reference. 4. Use narrower seats at back to make it look like there is more legroom. 5. Fire the idiot who is placing orders for better quality interior parts or materials. 6. Redesign power steering to ensure that driver has to apply max power manually. 7. Reduce one wiper. 8. Get rid of support framework for door interior panels. 9. Use cheap fabrics for the seats and trim. Get all seat covers made from local seat-cover-wallah. 10. Do not provide speakers or wiring. Force buyer to pay 4 times the price as an extra. Threaten to void warranty if done privately. 11. Hire some people to keep posting RAVE reviews everywhere. 12. Keep calling it a cheap car (when 7+ lakhs became cheap is not yet known.) 13. Remove any and all insulation, soundproofing etc. 14. ASSUME THAT INDIAN CUSTOMERS ARE IDIOTS. "These Indian people have been riding around in Autos and Buses. They won't figure out a thing." 15. Invent meaningless terms like "Q CLASS" to fool the customer.

My daily travel in Delhi is around 70-80km and i wanted a diesel car. After thorough market survey i decided to go for Etios( Diesel)top model. I purchased on 24th Oct.2011 in Delhi. We planned to go to Jaipur with this car on 25th for celebrating Diwali with my son. We drove 270km at speed of 60-75km/hr. driving was so smooth and comfortable that we did not feel that I am driving a diesel car.i had full tank from Delhi and on reaching Jaipur, i wanted to see milage.

To my utter surprise only in 10 litres, tank got full giving average of 27km/litre that too with Ac.I could not beleive this performance. Same was average when i returned from Jaipur to delhi on 28thoct. Toyota has not compromised with its engine though to make cost effective some compromise has been done in interior only. It is a superb car in this price range. Dr(Prof.)PBSingh Director Urology Max Healthcare Delhi
