Maruti Suzuki is a name of durability, style and economy in the Indian automobile industry. When in 1999, Maruti first launched this tall and awkwardly designed hatch, WagonR; it doesn't get much appreciation from customers as well as dealers. But slowly and surely, it catches up with the competition among the Indian hatch market and became the second largest selling vehicle of Maruti in India. It has seen a lot of changes since its birth and now, Maruti again introduced a newer, restyled version of WagonR with new engine. Also, Maruti is soon planning to introduce WagonR Diesel in the market which will help Maruti to give a strong competition to expanding Indian hatch market which is now seeing a lot of new and stylish names like Santro Xing, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo and Chevrolet Beat. The exterior of new Maruti WagonR is surely a head turner and gives a stylish yet rugged look. It has longer and wider front bonnet, chrome accentuated four layered front grille with Suzuki logo in middle, beautiful blue tinted front headlights, body colored front bumper with round shaped fog lights and massive air dam, steeply raked and smoothly flowing windscreen which merges well with novel tail section, body colored side door handles, stretched side profile, new moon rock silver finished roof rails, 14-inch alloy wheels with full wheel covers and bulky wheel arches, body colored outside rear view mirrors with indicators, side body mouldings, chrome finishing on back door, rear windshield having defogger with washer, wiper and high mounted brake light, stylish tail gate with bigger crystal effect tail lamp, rear bumper with low reflective light and edgy lines and a big chrome plate above the number plate featuring WagonR. These all features make it a quite distinguishable feel than other hatchbacks. It has a length of 3595mm, width of 1495mm and height of 1700mm as its dimension and has a large wheelbase of 2400mm for a stable ride. It has a ground clearance of 165mm for a bump free ride and fuel tank capacity of 35 litres and a minimum turn radius of 4.6m for easy cruising in city traffic and tight parking spots.
The interior of new Maruti WagonR gives a stylish, comfortable and spacious feel with a lot of new features. It has dual toned interiors, stylish chrome accentuated instrument panel, classy silver finished inside door handles, dual toned 3D effect plush upholstery, stylish moulded roof lining and needle punched floor carpet, well designed adjustable seats, elegant door trim fabric, luggage parcel tray, sun visor, adjustable and comfy front and rear seat headrests, vanity mirror, anti-glare inside rear view mirror, front and rear cabin lamps in 3 positions, electric ORVMs, adjustable, tilted and electronic power steering, all four power windows, comfortable reclining and sliding fill flat front seats, 60:40 split rear folding seats for extra space, a powerful AC and AC vents in front and rear, front passenger under seat tray and back pocket and IP integrated push type cup holders on both left and right sides. The petrol version of Maruti Suzuki WagonR has a new 998cc, 1.0L, 3-cylinder, 12-valve, DOHC with offset crankshaft, BS-IV compliant, KB10 petrol engine with a maximum power of 67 bhp at 6200 rpm and a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3200 rpm and has a five speed manual gearbox transmission. The new Maruti WagonR has ventilated disk brakes at front and drum brakes at rear with 8-inch booster assisted brakes for unexpected surprises in the road. The suspension system is a McPherson Strut with Coil Spring having 3-point control arms at front and Isolated Trailing Link with Coil Spring at rear. For the utmost safety of the passengers, it includes Dual SRS Airbags, ABS, collapsible steering column, halogen headlamps with levelling device, front and rear fog lights, driver seat-belt warning lamp, rear wiper, washer and defogger, rear child door locks, intelligent Anti-Theft System, front and rear ELR seat belts, energy absorbing body structure with side impact beams and gas filled shock absorbers.
