About
The Maruti WagonR is a versatile and practical hatchback that has been a favorite among Indian car buyers for years. It comes with two petrol engine options a 1-liter unit producing 67 PS and 89 Nm, and a 1.2-liter unit producing 90 PS and 113 Nm. Both engines are available with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission. The CNG variant, which produces 57 PS and 82 Nm, is also a popular choice for its fuel efficiency. The car features a 7-inch touchscreen display, power windows, central locking, and keyless entry, among other amenities. The interior, though budget-grade, is ergonomic and user-friendly, with good visibility and a tall driving position. The WagonR also boasts a spacious cabin with ample legroom and headroom, making it comfortable for both drivers and passengers. Overall, it is a reliable and cost-effective vehicle that suits the needs of many Indian families.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti WagonR, although not a 7-seater (it is typically a 5-seater), is a stalwart in the Indian automotive market, known for its practicality and value-for-money proposition. From my perspective, the WagonR excels in providing spacious interiors, effortless ingress and egress, and a generous 341-liter boot space. The cars suspension offers a compliant ride, making it suitable for both city and long-distance driving. However, the interior quality, while functional, is budget-grade, and the build quality could be improved, with thin and tinny sheet metal being a notable drawback. Despite these limitations, the WagonRs strong engine options, particularly the 1.2-liter unit, and its excellent after-sales service make it a compelling choice for many Indian buyers.
Price
The Maruti WagonR is priced competitively in the Indian market, with ex-showroom prices ranging from Rs. 5.54 lakh to Rs. 7.38 lakh, depending on the variant and fuel type. On-road prices, which include additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other taxes, can range from approximately Rs. 6.5 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh. This pricing makes the WagonR an attractive option for middle-class families and first-time car buyers, offering a balance of affordability and features. The price difference between manual and automatic transmissions, as well as petrol and CNG variants, allows buyers to choose based on their specific needs and budget.
Latest Updates
Friday, 20 September 2024 11:19 PM
There has been no recent confirmation from Maruti Suzuki about the launch of a 7-seater MPV based on the Wagon R. The idea was first floated in 2019, but since then, there have been no concrete updates. I think this delay might be due to the companys focus on other models and market conditions.

Despite initial excitement, there have been no recent updates or confirmations from Maruti Suzuki regarding the launch of a 7-seater Wagon R MPV. This lack of information has left potential buyers and enthusiasts in limbo. I believe clarity on this would help in managing market expectations.
Friday, 15 March 2024 11:19 AM
If launched, the 7-seater Wagon R MPV would likely feature a more spacious interior, additional seating, and possibly more premium features to justify its higher positioning. However, without official details, this remains speculative. I believe such features would be crucial in differentiating it from other MPVs in the market.

There is ongoing market speculation about whether Maruti Suzuki will ever launch a 7-seater version of the Wagon R. Some speculate it might be part of a broader strategy to expand Marutis MPV offerings, while others believe it may never materialize. I think the market would welcome such a vehicle if it meets the right balance of price and features.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 11:58 PM
When it comes to mileage, the Maruti WagonR is quite efficient. The 1-liter petrol manual variant offers a claimed mileage of 24.35 kmpl, while the 1.2-liter petrol manual variant gives 23.56 kmpl. The CNG variant is particularly economical, with a claimed mileage of 33.48 kmkg. These figures make the WagonR a good choice for those concerned about running costs, especially in urban driving conditions.

Discussions and Questions Maruti WagonR 7 Seater

I've done the numbers, and the 7 seater WagonR can be more economical, just so long as you're smart about it. The savings at the beginning are nice, but you also have to consider things like the wear and tear from having a full load all of the time.

It's reasonably safe for city use, I think. If Maruti wouldn't release it, it must have met safety standards. Common sense will do, though — don't overload it, and perhaps don't take it on long highway trips with a full load.

I’m an Ertiga owner and I’d say there’s no comparison. The WagonR 7 seater might be good for some, but for regular use with seven people you need the space of a proper MPV. I believe there will be little overlap and they will coexist.

It's certainly more than a gimmick. I’ve used one for my family of five plus grandparents and it works great for short trips around the city. It's not ideal for long journeys but for running errands, or going to see a movie, it's perfect. It's a lot cheaper than getting a bigger car and the kids love sitting in the back.

I've driven both and there isn't that much difference in day to day driving. It feels a bit heavier than the 7 seater, but it's not like you're now driving a boat. The suspension tuning has been done decently by Maruti.

User Reviews for Maruti WagonR (2018)
Reviews Submitted by Maxabout Community
Maruti WagonR is fun to drive. It looks cool and is convenient for the tall people due to higher head and enough leg room. I am using this car since 2013 and I am happy with its performance. The steering position is great, one can drive it with ease in any condition. Ride quality is good and it ensures effortless driving with smooth handling. However, WagonR is known as the boxy to the crowds, but I always seen it with different angle. It is its boxy design that provides higher headroom. It gives me 18kmpl mileage on city and 21kmpl on highway roads with AC ON. I am pretty much satisfied with these figures. On the bad side, its tyres I feel look terribly punny.
