Maruti WagonR Diesel

About
The Maruti Wagon R is a versatile and practical hatchback that has been a favorite among Indian car buyers for its spacious interior, generous boot space, and fuel-efficient engines. Built on Marutis Heartect platform, the Wagon R features a tall boy design that provides ample headroom and legroom, making it comfortable for both front and rear occupants. The car is available with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines, as well as a 1.0-litre CNG option, all paired with either a manual or AMT gearbox. The Wagon R also comes with useful features such as electric ORVMs, reverse parking sensors, and Android Auto, enhancing its usability and convenience. Despite some limitations in terms of safety and build quality, the Wagon R remains a reliable and value-for-money option in its segment.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti Wagon R, particularly in its petrol and CNG variants, is a solid choice for those seeking a reliable and practical vehicle, especially for city driving. However, its crucial to note that there is no diesel variant available for the Maruti Wagon R. The car excels in terms of fuel efficiency, spacious interior, and generous boot space, making it an excellent option for middle-class families. Despite some drawbacks such as the use of cheap plastics, uncomfortable seats, and a 1-Star GNCAP safety rating, the Wagon Rs overall package of affordability, comfort, and performance makes it a viable first car or a daily commuter. The recent updates, including the idle start-stop and hill hold features for the AMT, enhance its appeal.
Price
The Maruti Wagon R is priced competitively in the Indian market, with ex-showroom prices ranging from 5.55 lakh to 7.21 lakh, depending on the variant. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, can vary by city but generally fall between 6.5 lakh to 8.5 lakh. For instance, the base LXI variant starts at around 5.55 lakh ex-showroom, while the top-of-the-line ZXI variant can cost up to 7.21 lakh ex-showroom. These prices make the Wagon R an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers who are looking for a reliable and feature-packed vehicle.
Latest Updates
Thursday, 21 November 2024 10:02 PM Maruti Suzuki has not announced any plans to introduce a diesel engine variant for the Wagon R in India. The current options include petrol and CNG engines. I think this is due to the increasing focus on alternative fuel options and stricter emission norms.
Tuesday, 15 October 2024 12:49 PM Maruti Suzuki has been emphasizing alternative fuel options, such as CNG and upcoming electric vehicles, rather than diesel engines. This shift is driven by consumer preferences and regulatory requirements. I believe this strategy aligns well with the markets current trends.
Tuesday, 24 September 2024 03:31 PM The sales data indicates a strong preference for CNG variants of the Wagon R, with CNG models making up a significant portion of the sales. This suggests that consumers are opting for more fuel-efficient and cost-effective options over traditional diesel engines.
Saturday, 23 March 2024 11:03 AM Since there is no diesel variant of the Wagon R, there have been no recalls related to diesel engine issues for this model. The recalls mentioned are related to other components like the fuel pump in petrol variants.
Saturday, 10 February 2024 06:18 PM The Wagon R competes with other hatchbacks that also do not offer diesel engine options, such as the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. This competitive landscape further supports the absence of a diesel variant.
Saturday, 20 January 2024 09:25 PM The Maruti Wagon R is available with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines, as well as a 1.0-litre CNG engine, but there is no diesel engine option. I think this range covers the needs of most buyers in this segment.
Friday, 15 December 2023 09:05 AM Consumer trends in India are shifting towards more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly options, which explains the lack of a diesel variant for the Wagon R. I believe this trend will continue as consumers become more conscious of their environmental impact.
Friday, 10 November 2023 09:30 AM Stricter emission norms in India have made it less viable for manufacturers to continue producing diesel engines for smaller vehicles like the Wagon R. This regulatory environment has likely influenced Maruti Suzukis decision not to offer a diesel variant.
Friday, 06 October 2023 12:06 AM There has been no market speculation or rumors about the introduction of a diesel engine for the Wagon R. The focus remains on petrol and CNG options, which seem to be meeting consumer demands effectively.
Friday, 01 September 2023 10:04 PM The Wagon Rs design and technology focus have been on enhancing the petrol and CNG engine options, with features like idle start-stop and automatic gear shift. There has been no mention of incorporating diesel technology into this model.
Mileage
Thursday, 21 November 2024 11:09 AM The Maruti Wagon R offers impressive mileage, which is a significant factor for many Indian buyers. The petrol variants deliver an ARAI-certified mileage of 23.56 to 25.19 kml, while the CNG variant boasts an impressive 34.05 kmkg. In real-world conditions, users have reported mileage of around 20-22 kml for petrol and 28-30 kmkg for CNG, making it an economical choice for daily commuting and long trips alike.

Average Car - Performance and Style

Maruti WagonR is fun to drive. It looks cool and is convenient for the tall people due to higher head and enough leg room. I am using this car since 2013 and I am happy with its performance. The steering position is great, one can drive it with ease in any condition. Ride quality is good and it ensures effortless driving with smooth handling. However, WagonR is known as the boxy to the crowds, but I always seen it with different angle. It is its boxy design that provides higher headroom. It gives me 18kmpl mileage on city and 21kmpl on highway roads with AC ON. I am pretty much satisfied with these figures. On the bad side, its tyres I feel look terribly punny.

I am using WagaonR LXi Duo for the last four years. I am happy with it. When there is hike in petrol and LPG price.....I felt better if Maruthi can introduce a new model WagaonR with Diesel engine, with good mileage.....I have noticed the proposed specification of the new WagaonR Diesel car....It is my suggestion and ambition that there should be some change in the new WagaonR diesel car model......it must have a powerful engine like Ritz or Dezer, the wheels should also be like Ritz or Desire. The mileage should be equivelent to new Desire or Ritz.....the New Wagaon R shoud have more space from the ground.....the vehicle should be so designed to have the stepny wheel fixed at the backdoor (like Tata Safari or similiar vehicles), it will give a grant look of the vehicle. The WagaonR diesel may be designed for sitting capacity for 5 persons comfortably, with a small space for lauage space at the back.....I would like to say that the new Wagaon R should look like a small "Mahendra Xyilo". I could notice the Mahendra has improved the WanganR model to a big version....Maruthi can modify their own model WagonR to look like a "small or medium size Xyilo". The WagonR is a family car....used by the middle class and elderly people like me (I am 61 years of old).....I have the ambition that maruthi to improve their WagonR version to look like a costly big car....with same comfort with improved style very particularly mileage.....with afforadable cost ....... I do hope the Maruthi while celebration its 30 year may consider my suggestion. Thanking you, Ugamani SK, Tamil Nadu, India.

Cubic Capacity CC should be increased in new wagon R Diesel, 970 is very less. In Present Waqon R we have 2 dis advantages, if we overcome the below 2 points, the new Diesel Wagon R will be unbeatable and it will be legend in the market of india. 1 Wagon R vibrates lot, when we drive fast on highway, this is because of CC engine capacity is less. 2 For petrol 890 CC is ok, but for new diesel Wagon R, Engine CC should be more than 1350 CC just like ZEN DI japan Engine.
