In February 2024, Toyota emerged as the fifth most popular automaker in India, trailing behind industry giants like Maruti, Tata, Hyundai, and Mahindra. The brand's success can be attributed to its diverse range of offerings from mass-market vehicles to premium luxury cars. Toyota Kirloskar Motors reported an impressive sales figure of 23,300 units in February 2024, marking a significant year-over-year growth of 52.60% compared to the 15,269 units sold in February 2023. This translates to a volume increase of 8,031 units. However, month-over-month sales saw a marginal rise of 0.44% from the 23,197 units sold in January 2024.

Toyota's Sales Breakdown for February 2024

Leading Toyota's sales charge was the HyRyder, which accounted for 5,601 units sold in February 2024, a substantial increase of 69.37% from the 3,307 units sold in February 2023. The HyRyder, with a starting price of Rs. 11.14 lakh, is available in four variants and currently has a waiting period of 39 weeks, reduced from a previous 56-week wait.

Close on its heels was the Toyota Hycross, which sold 5,410 units in February 2024, up 29.77% from the 4,169 units sold in February 2023. Together, the HyRyder and Hycross account for 47% of Toyota's total sales. Notably, the Innova Hycross reached a sales milestone of 50,000 units in February 2024, just 14 months after its launch in November 2022. The Hycross is priced between Rs. 19.77 lakh and Rs. 30.68 lakh and has a waiting period of 52 weeks.

The Toyota Glanza hatchback also saw a year-over-year sales increase of 8.48%, with 4,581 units sold in February 2024, compared to 4,223 units in February 2023. The Glanza ranked as the fifth best-selling hatchback in India for the month, trailing behind models like the WagonR, Baleno, Tiago, and Hyundai i20. However, the Toyota Fortuner experienced a slight dip of 0.90% in sales, with 3,a395 units sold in February 2024 compared to 3,426 units in February 2023.

Other noteworthy performers include the Toyota Innova Crysta, which saw a dramatic increase to 3,071 units sold in February 2024 from just 2 units in the same month last year. The Maruti Ertiga-based Toyota Rumion MPV added 730 units to February's sales, while the Camry experienced a 213.43% surge to 210 units sold. The Hilux also saw a significant increase, with 245 units sold in February 2024, a 1,533% jump from the 15 units sold in February 2023.

Toyota's Month-over-Month Growth in February 2024

Although the Hycross outsold the HyRyder in January 2024, its sales declined by 20.42% month-over-month to 5,410 units in February 2024. Conversely, the HyRyder saw a slight increase of 1.05% to 5,601 units from the 5,543 units sold in January 2024. The Glanza also experienced a notable month-over-month improvement of 22.49%, with sales rising from 3,740 units in January 2024.

The Toyota Fortuner, Innova Crysta, and Rumion also saw month-over-month growth, with increases of 5.66%, 10.02%, and 18.02%, respectively. However, the Camry's performance was less encouraging, with a 32.69% decline to 210 units sold in February 2024 from 312 units in January 2024. Sales of the Hilux and Vellfire also dipped by 15.22% and 6.56%, respectively.

Toyota faced challenges in January 2024 when it temporarily halted dispatches of the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux due to certification issues. This affected sales, which only grew marginally by 0.44%. Despite this, Toyota is optimistic about introducing new models throughout the year as it continues to expand its presence in the Indian market.
