Indian Army Buys 1,850 Units of Mahindra Scorpio Classic SUV

The Indian Army has placed an order for 1,850 Scorpio Classic SUVs from Mahindra & Mahindra. Earlier this year, the business received an order for 1,470 units of the SUV.

The Scorpio Classic is an upgraded version of the previous-generation Scorpio, which was discontinued in India in 2021. The SUV is powered by a 130 bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine paired with a manual gearbox. It is offered with two-wheel drive only for civilian customers.

The army variant of the Scorpio Classic is expected to get four-wheel drive. It is also likely to be powered by a more powerful diesel engine than the civilian version.

According to the image released by Mahindra, the army-spec Scorpio Classic retains the aesthetic features of the outgoing model. It retains the previous grille style as well as the previous Mahindra logo.

The Indian Army already uses a variety of 4x4 vehicles, including the Tata Safari Storme, Tata Xenon, Force Gurkha, and the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The addition of the Scorpio Classic will give the army a more modern and capable SUV.

The order for the Scorpio Classics is a significant boost for Mahindra. The company has been facing stiff competition from rivals such as Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki in the SUV segment. The order from the army will help Mahindra to boost its sales and improve its market share.
