Hyundai is actively testing the Creta EV in India, with its global debut expected by late 2024. Although previous spy shots suggest a design similar to the ICE-powered Creta, the interior of the Creta EV is expected to feature unique elements, some of which may be inspired by the new Kona EV sold abroad.
Interior Changes in Hyundai Creta EV
The Creta EV is expected to have a distinct interior compared to the existing ICE-powered Creta variants. It is probably going to get a new three-spoke steering wheel instead of the four-spoke one seen on the standard Creta, which looks like the newest Kona EV. Additionally, the drive selector lever is expected to be relocated from the center console to the right side of the steering wheel column, similar to the Kona EV. This change will also require a redesign of the center console.
The Creta EV is expected to retain the dual-screen setup for the infotainment and instrument cluster, along with several physical controls for ease of use. The EV might also offer more features and an updated software interface.
Exterior Design and EV-specific Touches
While the exterior design will largely resemble the recently facelifted Creta, the Creta EV will have unique EV-specific features such as a closed-off grille, new front and rear bumpers, and aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels.
Range and Battery Specifications
The Creta EV is expected to be powered by a 45kWh battery pack, which is smaller than the MG ZS EV's 50.3kWh and the upcoming Maruti eVX's 48-60kWh batteries but larger than the Nexon EV LR's 40.5kWh unit.
The electric motor of the Creta EV is likely to be shared with the entry-level Kona EV available overseas, with an expected output of about 138hp and 255Nm of torque. The platform will be derived from the regular ICE-powered Creta with some modifications.
Competition
Upon its launch, the Creta EV will compete with the Maruti Suzuki eVX (and its Toyota counterpart) as well as the upcoming Tata Curvv EV, all of which are expected to be available around the same time.
