2024 Tata Nexon EV: Unveiling Enhanced Range and Performance

Tata Motors has undertaken a significant enhancement of the Nexon EV, elevating its performance to new heights. Despite being a mid-cycle facelift, the modifications are so substantial that it feels like a complete generational upgrade. To provide an in-depth understanding of these improvements, we meticulously conducted a real-world range test on the long-range (LR) version.

Key Improvements

  • Motor Upgrade: The new Nexon EV boasts a cutting-edge second-gen electric motor. This motor, being more compact and around 20 kilograms lighter, stands out for its improved efficiency. Delivering power in a smoother and more linear manner, it achieves 145hp and 215Nm of torque, significantly enhancing the overall driving experience.
     
  • Battery Architecture: While the battery retains the fundamental architecture of the Nexon EV Max, the LR version introduces a 332.8V battery system with a 40.5kWh pack. This alteration contributes to heightened efficiency and extended range capabilities.
     
  • Driving Modes and Regeneration Levels: The vehicle introduces various driving modes, with Eco mode intelligently limiting torque to 70 percent of the total output. Furthermore, the inclusion of four regeneration levels allows drivers to tailor their driving experience, adding an element of customization to the Nexon EV LR's performance.

Real-World Range Test

Our comprehensive real-world range test took us through the bustling streets of Mumbai and onto the adjoining state highway. The results were noteworthy, with the Nexon EV LR showcasing an impressive average highway efficiency of 6.73 km/kWh and city efficiency of 6.9 km/kWh. In a combined city and highway scenario, the Nexon EV LR achieved a commendable range of 273 km on a full charge.

Charging Efficiency

Charging the Nexon EV LR is not only efficient but also remarkably convenient. Utilizing a 30kW DC fast charger, we successfully charged the vehicle from 20-80 percent in a mere 67 minutes. Alternatively, employing an 11kW AC wallbox charger extended the charging duration to 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes) for the same charging range.

Testing Details

Our rigorous tests were executed in Eco mode with regenerative braking set to Level 3 in the city and Level 2 on the highway. To ensure consistency, we charged the vehicle from 20-80 percent on two separate occasions. The tests were performed with a single occupant in the car, adhering to the manufacturer's recommendations for tire pressures and maintaining average speeds. Climate control and other electrical systems were utilized as a regular driver would, ensuring our data provides users with an accurate representation of real-world usage scenarios.

The 2024 Tata Nexon EV LR stands out with substantial improvements in range, efficiency, and overall performance. The upgraded electric motor, coupled with a reliable battery system, positions the Nexon EV LR as a compelling choice for environmentally conscious drivers, offering a seamless blend of enhanced technology and eco-friendly driving.
