The Tata Nexon EV has been a popular choice in the Indian electric vehicle market since its launch in 2020. With the recent update in 2023, Tata introduced the long-range variant of the Nexon EV, offering improved performance and range. In this comparison, we will explore how the new Nexon EV facelift long-range (LR) variant compares to the older version in terms of real-world performance.

Powertrain Specifications

The older Nexon EV featured a 30.2 kWh battery pack, providing 129 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque. In contrast, the new Nexon EV facelift LR boasts a larger 40.5 kWh battery pack, delivering 144 PS of power and 215 Nm of torque. Even with the increased power, the new model's torque output is lower than that of the old one. This modification to the powertrain arrangement attempts to improve the vehicle's overall economy and performance offering a more engaging driving experience while keeping sustainability and range in mind

Acceleration and Performance

In our tests, the Nexon EV facelift LR showed improved acceleration compared to the older model. It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 8.75 seconds, compared to the older model's time of 9.58 seconds. The quarter-mile time for the facelifted model is 16.58 seconds at 138.11 kmph, while the older model took 17.37 seconds at 119.82 kmph. The kick-down from 20 to 80 kmph is also slightly quicker in the new model.

Braking Performance

The braking performance of the Nexon EV facelift LR has also been improved. It can come to a stop from 100 kmph is 40.87 meters, compared to the older model's distance of 42.60 meters. The stopping distance from 80 kmph is 25.56 meters for the facelifted model, while the older model took 26.64 meters. The new Nexon EV LR facelift comes with all-wheel disc brakes, unlike the older model which had front-wheel disc brakes only.

Price Comparison and Rivals

The price of the Tata Nexon EV facelift long-range variant starts at Rs 16.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the older Nexon EV was priced between Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 17.50 lakh (last recorded). The Nexon EV now competes with rivals like the Mahindra XUV400 EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and the Tata Punch EV, offering an affordable and spacious alternative in the electric SUV segment.

In comparison to the previous model, the Tata Nexon EV facelift long-range variant delivers better performance and range overall. In testing of acceleration and braking the new model performs faster even though it produces less torque. Tata's dedication to creating mass-market electric vehicles is demonstrated by the advancements in mechanical aspects and features. The Nexon EV is still a formidable competitor in the Indian electric car industry because of its reasonable cost and upgraded features.
