Kawasaki has introduced the 2024 Z900 in the Indian market, priced at Rs 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new model retains the same features as the 2023 version but sees a price increase of Rs 9,000.
Engine and Performance
The 948cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine powers the Z900, generating 125hp at 9,500 rpm and 98.6 Nm at 7,700 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox equipped with an assist and slip clutch. However, the absence of a bidirectional quick-shifter, a feature commonly found in its rivals, is a notable drawback. This is attributed to the Z900's use of a traditional cable throttle instead of an electronic one.
Chassis and Suspension
The motorcycle features a steel trellis frame that houses the four-cylinder engine. It is equipped with an adjustable USD fork and mono shock for preload and rebound. A single 250mm disc at the back and dual 300mm discs at the front with axially mounted Nissin calipers manage the braking.
Electronics and Features
The Z900 boasts a color TFT dash that can be connected to a smartphone via the 'Rideology' app, allowing riders to receive notifications and navigation alerts. The electronics suite includes two power modes, three riding modes, three levels of traction control, and non-switchable dual-channel ABS.
Pricing and Competition
Priced at Rs 9.29 lakh, the Kawasaki Z900 is more affordable than the Triumph Street Triple R, which is priced at Rs 10.17 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the on-road price in Mumbai is Rs 12.72 lakh for the Kawasaki, compared to Rs 12.36 lakh for the Triumph. This difference is due to Kawasaki's displacement advantage, which places it in a higher tax bracket compared to the 765cc Triumph Street Triple R.
With its strong engine and movable suspension, the 2024 Kawasaki Z900 maintains its attractive package appeal. However, the absence of a quick-shifter and its higher on-road price compared to the Triumph Street Triple R might influence potential buyers' decisions.
