Kawasaki Z900 Hits the Streets, Priced at Rs 9.29 Lakh

Kawasaki has recently launched the 2024 Z900 in India with a price tag of Rs 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom, India). While this model retains the same specifications as its 2023 predecessor, it comes with a slightly higher price, now costing Rs 9,000 more. The Z900 maintains its distinctive features and powerful performance making it a notable option in the market.

Specifications

The Kawasaki Z900 is equipped with a liquid-cooled, 948cc inline-four cylinder engine, delivering 125hp at 9,500rpm and 98.6Nm of torque at 7,700rpm. The powertrain is paired with a 6-speed gearbox featuring an assist and slip clutch. Notably, the absence of a bidirectional quickshifter is highlighted, as many competitors in the same class offer this technology. The bike's steel trellis frame houses the four-cylinder engine, supported by an adjustable USD fork and monoshock for suspension.

In terms of braking, the Z900 features twin 300mm discs at the front with axially mounted Nissin calipers and a single 250mm disc at the rear. The bike's electronic suite includes two power modes, three riding modes, three levels of traction control and non-switchable dual-channel ABS. The colour TFT dash is smartphone-compatible via the 'Rideology' app, allowing users to receive notifications and navigation alerts.

Comparison and Pricing

Priced at Rs 9.29 lakh the Z900 offers a powerful and compelling option in its segment. It competes favorably against the Triumph Street Triple R, priced at Rs 10.17 lakh. However, the on-road pricing in Mumbai reveals a slightly different picture, with the Kawasaki Z900 costing Rs 12.72 lakh and the Triumph Street Triple R, despite being lighter and more dynamically capable, priced at Rs 12.36 lakh. The pricing variation is attributed to the different tax brackets based on engine displacement, where the near-1000cc Kawasaki falls into a higher tax category compared to the 765cc Triumph.

The 2024 Kawasaki Z900 maintains its status as a robust and powerful choice in the Indian motorcycle market. With its distinctive features, strong performance and competitive pricing the Z900 stands as a worthy contender in its class. Whether riders prefer the more powerful yet simpler Z900 over the lighter Triumph Street Triple R is subjective and may depend on individual preferences and priorities.
