Toyota, I think, is banking too much on brand loyalty. If they want to attract new, younger buyers, they have to step it up.

Part of the appeal is the simplicity. Not everyone wants a car that has all the bells and whistles. Less is more, sometimes, and especially for long term reliability.

It's definitely much more about status. It's bought to prove you've 'made it'. For the money, there are better SUVs out there, but none with the same road presence.

Status is a part of it, but you can’t discount the Fortuner’s actual merits. There is no better value for its reliability and resale value. That's why it's popular.

The status thing is blown out of proportion. It’s a solid, dependable SUV that can handle anything, and people buy it. The image is just a bonus.

I know, because I cross shopped extensively before buying and can say the Fortuner’s popularity is justified. There is a status element but it is backed by substance.

It’s undeniable that the status factor, but it’s not fair to say it’s the only reason for its popularity. Toyota’s brand value and after sales service also have huge role to play.

I’ve owned both a Fortuner and a luxury German SUV and I can say that the Fortuner is worth it if you’re going to do a lot of highway driving or off-roading. For city use, not so much.

For me, a lack of features for its price is a deal breaker. There is no 360 camera, basic infotainment — it feels as though you're paying for the name more than the product.

The car is not the problem, it's the drivers. I have met with a lot of Fortuner owners who have been respectful. Because the car's so big, people just notice the bad ones more.
