What does the lower seat height of the KTM 390 Adventure X do to its off-road capability?
KTM says the seat height of 825mm on the KTM 390 Adventure X is also lower than the 855mm on the standard model. The change was made to allow this bike to be more accessible to riders of shorter stature or a wider variety of riders. But this alteration has sparked conversation about how it impacts the bike’s off-road performance. Lower seat height usually equates to less ground clearance, and that can be a real issue when you’re tearing up some rough terrain. Riders argue whether the added accessibility and confidence provided by a flat-footed bike outweighs possible restrictions in extreme off-road situations. This question is asked to find out what the real-world implications of this design choice are and how do factors like obstacle clearance, weight distribution, and rider confidence in different off-road situations play a role.
It's a game changer for shorter riders like me, as the lower seat height is. Any day I'll take the confidence of being able to touch the ground over a bit of clearance.
