Let’s see how the Aprilia SXR 125 fares against electric scooters on running costs and performance.

As electric scooters gain popularity in India, many potential buyers are struggling to make a choice between an electric scooter vs a petrol scooter. As a premium petrol scooter, the Aprilia SXR 125 competes with the likes of Ather and Ola, high end electric options. The cost effectiveness over the long term is debated, given the fuel price, electricity price and maintenance cost. Electric scooters provide instant torque and higher top speeds on paper, but the SXR 125 gives the familiar feel of a petrol engine, and possibly a longer range. In this discussion, environmental concerns also contribute, due to the fact that electric scooters are zero emission. But the conversation also includes questions about battery life, charging infrastructure, and the overall carbon footprint of making batteries. So, let’s compare the Aprilia SXR 125 with its electric counterparts on the lines of daily usability, running costs and overall ownership experience.

Unlike most premium electric scooters, the SXR 125 is cheaper initially. That was the deciding factor for me. As prices come down I’ll consider electric for my next purchase.

I am in love with my SXR but can’t turn a blind eye to the environmental aspect. I’d probably go electric for the lower emissions if I were buying today.

It's a tough call. The SXR 125 is great but the electrics are so low running cost. I guess it depends on your usage pattern and how easy it is to get to charging.

High end electrics smoke the SXR 125 performance wise. I still prefer the Aprilia for longer rides and highway use, though. It is more versatile package.

For me, the SXR 125 is more practical. I can refuel in minutes, I don’t have to worry about finding charging points or long charging times.

I regret not going electric. I was a bit disappointed by the fuel costs of the SXR 125, particularly as fuel prices seem to be going up. An Ather would have been more economical in the long run.

It's not a fair comparison. With the SXR 125, you get a different riding experience. Yes, electrics are cheaper to run than petrol scooters, but they don’t have the soul.

Electric is the future, man. Bikes like Ather perform insanely, and the running costs are way lower. The SXR 125 doesn’t feel outdated at all.

Because I’m not convinced about the charging infrastructure yet, I opted for the SXR 125 over an electric. Not to mention, I love the sound and feel of a petrol engine. No range anxiety!
