Does the Legender’s design make the Fortuner more aerodynamic or is it all for aesthetics?

While the Toyota Fortuner Legender looks more aggressive and sleeker than the regular Fortuner, especially in its front fascia. The redesign features a sleeker grille, reshaped bumpers and new LED headlamps. These changes may certainly make the Legender more modern and sporty, but there is debate over whether these design elements do have any effect on aerodynamics, or are just for looks. There are some who say that smoother lines might reduce drag, and others who think the changes are too minor to make a difference in real world performance. This question hits a broader spot in discussing the form vs function in automotive design, specifically in the SUV segment where aesthetics are emphasised over rugged, practicality and also where aerodynamics often go behind an SUV’s tough look.

It's mostly for looks. SUVs aren’t exactly aerodynamic, and the Legender’s changes are too minor to make a real difference.

I believe there is a little bit of improvement. Even small changes can cut drag and that could mean a boost in fuel efficiency, especially at highway speeds.

Nobody’s buying a Fortuner for its aerodynamics, let’s be real. All of the design changes are about making it look cooler, which they do.

I don't think there's a noticeable improvement in day to day driving, but there might be a slight improvement. But that's more about making the Legender look premium to justify its higher price.

I would love to see some wind tunnel tests on this. I won't believe in any aero benefits until then. At the end of the day, it's a boxy SUV.
