Compared to other LCVs for long haul, how does the cabin comfort of Ashok Leyland Dost Plus LE stand?
Cabin comfort can often make or break a light commercial vehicle for drivers spending long hours on the road. The ergonomically designed cabin of the Ashok Leyland Dost Plus LE is equipped with features that aim at making driver’s life easier. However, the real question is how it actually fares against the likes of Tata Intra, Mahindra Supro or Maruti Super Carry in terms of the long haul real world comfort? Things like seat support, driving position, visibility, cabin noise, vibration levels, and ergonomics in general all contribute to reducing driver fatigue during long trips. I will take you through the experiences of those drivers who have spent long durations on the road with Dost Plus LE and its competitors.
I have driven both the Dost Plus LE and Tata Intra on long hauls and Dost wins hands down. On those 8 hour stretches, the seats are more supportive and have a more natural driving position.
I’m not that impressed with the Dost’s cabin honestly. Yes, it’s better than my old Maruti Super Carry, but the noise levels at highway speeds are still quite high. This makes it difficult to relax on long drives.
Mahindra Supro has a slight edge when it comes to overall cabin comfort, but the Dost Plus LE’s cabin is decent. The seats feel a bit more plush and the cabin does a better job of isolating road noise.
I am a person who makes 500+ km trips regularly and the cabin of Dost Plus LE is a lifesaver for me. Good visibility, adjustable steering and seat make it easy to find a comfortable position for those long highway stretches.
I have a mixed bag. The Dost's seating is comfortable, and I wish they had done a better job of damping vibration. After a few hours, you really feel those vibrations creeping in on the rough roads.
As compared to the Tata Ace, the Dost Plus LE is a luxury car! There is a lot of room in the cabin, and I really like the little things like the mobile phone holder and many storage spaces. These long trips are much more bearable with them.
I feel Ashok Leyland has done good basics but one can only go forward from there. I wish the AC was more effective and I wish they offered a better audio system option for those long, monotonous highway drives.
The Dost Plus LE’s cabin has one standout feature for me, and that is the visibility. The large windshield and well placed mirrors make for few blind spots, which is a godsend on long trips, in heavy traffic or bad weather.
Having driven pretty much every LCV there is, I’d say the Dost Plus LE is one of the best in terms of cabin comfort. Not perfect, but for the price point, it balances comfort features that make those long trips a bit more tolerable.
