Discussions and Questions Nissan Patrol

Do recent models of the Nissan Patrol have lost the edge they always had with off road?

The new Patrols are still beasts off road, no way. The tech does actually help, things like the terrain select modes make it easier for average drivers to take on tough conditions.

It has definitely lost some of its edge. They are too heavy and too complicated for the new ones. For real off roading give me a manual Y61 with a snorkel any day.

I think it's a trade-off. Sure, the new models aren’t as raw and rugged as their predecessors, but they’re far more comfortable for long trips and are still very capable when the going gets tough.

Off road, the Patrol is still great but it’s not the same as it was. It’s not a purpose built offroader, it’s more of a luxury SUV that can do the odd bit of offroading.

For those of you who are off road aficionados and regularly take your Y62 off road, I can assure you it is still an incredibly capable vehicle. Both advanced 4WD system and air suspension make a huge difference. Sure, it’s fancy, but it can get dirty with the best of them.

It isn't capability that's the problem, it's repairability. The old Patrols were easy enough to fix in the middle of nowhere. Good luck with that when there are electronics in the new ones.

I think people forget the average Patrol owner isn’t doing extreme off roading. The new models are more than capable for the kind of off road use most people do - beach driving, light trails, etc.
The Nissan Patrol's fuel consumption, is it a deal breaker in today's eco conscious world?
06 January 2025 09:25
Of course, it's a big, powerful SUV that drinks fuel. If you buy a Patrol, you already know what you're dealing with. It's not meant to be a Prius.
The Nissan Patrol's fuel consumption, is it a deal breaker in today's eco conscious world?
06 January 2025 09:25
This day and age, the fuel consumption is ridiculous. At least a hybrid option is what Nissan should do. That kind of gas guzzling is hard to justify anymore.
The Nissan Patrol's fuel consumption, is it a deal breaker in today's eco conscious world?
06 January 2025 09:25
It’s a concern, but I won’t lose sleep over it. The fuel costs are nothing compared to the reliability and capability of the Patrol. And I don't daily drive it around the city, either.
The Nissan Patrol's fuel consumption, is it a deal breaker in today's eco conscious world?
06 January 2025 09:25
It depends I think, where you live. In the Gulf countries where fuel is cheap, it’s not a big deal. But Europe or parts of Asia? Most people will probably consider it as a deal breaker.

The fuel consumption sucks, but at the end of the day, people buying Patrols aren't too fussed about it. It is more of the status and capability.
The Nissan Patrol's fuel consumption, is it a deal breaker in today's eco conscious world?
06 January 2025 09:25
It's definitely an issue. My Patrol is great, but the fuel bills aren't. If Nissan made a hybrid version with the same capability, I'd switch to that in a heartbeat.

Some markets get the V6 option as a good compromise. Not as thirsty as the V8, but still powerful enough. I wish they'd offer that everywhere.
Is the popularity of the Nissan Patrol in the Middle East the reason people think it's popular everywhere?
06 January 2025 09:25
Definitely. In the UAE, the Patrol is like a national car, but that does not translate globally. It’s too big and thirsty for most markets.
Is the popularity of the Nissan Patrol in the Middle East the reason people think it's popular everywhere?
06 January 2025 09:25
I don't think that skews perception that much. Australia and other places also have the Patrol popular. The terrain and fuel prices make the Middle East the place where it really shines.
Is the popularity of the Nissan Patrol in the Middle East the reason people think it's popular everywhere?
06 January 2025 09:25
The Middle East popularity is a sword with two edges. Sales are great, but it associates the Patrol with a certain lifestyle that might not be palatable everywhere.
Is the popularity of the Nissan Patrol in the Middle East the reason people think it's popular everywhere?
06 January 2025 09:25
I can say as someone from outside the Middle East, the Patrol's reputation there actually makes it more appealing. It can handle anything if it can handle those conditions.
Is the popularity of the Nissan Patrol in the Middle East the reason people think it's popular everywhere?
06 January 2025 09:25
The problem is Nissan appears to be designing the Patrol for the Middle East market now. It’s a global vehicle and they have to remember that other regions are catered to as well.
Is the popularity of the Nissan Patrol in the Middle East the reason people think it's popular everywhere?

I think people underestimate the Patrol's influence from the Middle East. But it remains a very capable vehicle that can satisfy anyone after a tough, roomy SUV.
