How well does the Astor hold up over the long haul?

I’ve had my Astor for over a year now and it still feels as solid as the day I got it. No rattles, no loose panels. This one is build quality well nailed by MG.

It hasn't had as positive an experience as I have. After just 6 months the door seals started making noise, and the infortainment system has frozen a couple of times. The price is not terrible, but for the price I expected better.

It depends, I think, on how you maintain it. I've religiously serviced and after 18 months my Astor still feels like brand new. A little TLC goes a long way.

I can say the Astor definitely feels more premium, coming from a Hyundai. I'm worried about long term durability, though. Can only time tell if it will match the reliability of more established brands?

It’s decent build quality, but not great. It's up there with the others in the segment, but don't expect Volkswagen levels of solidity. It’s a step up from budget cars but isn’t quite premium.

I’ve put 30,000 km on mine and it’s been beautiful. It's still got a fresh paint job and there are no rattles to speak of. I'm impressed.

There is nothing disappointing in exterior build quality but inside, the quality of plastics is a bit of cheap. Piano black trim is a scratch magnet. This is not a deal breaker, but you should know that.
Do some reviews claim that the Astor's infotainment system is as laggy as it is?

I've had my Astor for about 8 months now and yeah, the infotainment occasionally lags. It’s not a deal breaker, but it can be annoying when you’re trying to quickly change something while driving.

I don't have lag issues, am I the only one? 99% of the time, mine works fine. Perhaps I just happened to have luck on my unit?

It’s real lag, but it’s improved with updates. When I first got the car, it was pretty bad, but now it's mostly smooth sailing. It’s not as snappy as my phone, yet.

I think people are too hard on Astor's infotainment. It’s not perfect, but it’s still one of the best systems in its class. Everything from the screen to the features is top notch.

There's definitely a lag, especially with Android Auto. It sometimes takes a good 5–10 seconds to respond. On this front MG needs to step up its game.

Restarting the system every few days seems to keep it running fine. It's not the best, but it's what I'm doing.

I actually prefer the Astor’s system coming from a Hyundai. It’s a bit slower, but the interface is cleaner and much easier to use.
Is the Astor practical for a family of four that often takes the road?

The Astor has been great for our road trips, we are a family of four. The boot is a little small but we’ve managed week long trips by packing smart. The panoramic sunroof is great for the kids!

Long trips, I find the Astor a bit cramped. 5+ hour drives aren’t the most comfortable for adults in the rear seats. For city use it's fine, but I wish I'd gone for something bigger for our family road trips.

This has been perfect for our family. Fuelling efficiency is decent if you aren’t pushing it too hard and the ADAS features make highway driving a breeze. We had done multiple 1000km trips without any problems.

Road trips are a mixed bag at the Astor. The small boot is a real pain, but it’s comfortable and feature packed. And we always end up playing Tetris with our luggage.

I am someone who does weekend getaways with family, and I think the Astor hits a sweet spot. Not too big to cause trouble in the city, but comfy enough for driving long. Don't expect to have the same amount of gear that you normally would in a Hector!

It has worked well for our family of four so far, but only because we still have little kids. As they get older I can see it becoming a tight squeeze, especially for longer trips.
