How well does the Astor hold up over the long haul?

Having a good build quality of the car is certainly an important parameter when buying a car in India where the roads can be rough at times. While the MG Astor has received plaudits for its premium feel and solid construction, there are always doubts about how well such qualities will stand the test of time. Panel gaps have widened, or interior materials have worn out faster than expected, according to some owners. Some say their Astors have held up well after years of use. SOMETIME However, the debate often revolves around whether — or, perhaps, somewhat inexplicably — its price tag can be defended given its build quality in comparison to more established brands in the segment. But the other question is how good MG's after sales service would be able to deal with any build quality issues that will crop up. It’s a topic that crops up in ownership discussions and can be a deal breaker for prospective buyers.

I’ve had my Astor for over a year now and it still feels as solid as the day I got it. No rattles, no loose panels. This one is build quality well nailed by MG.

It hasn't had as positive an experience as I have. After just 6 months the door seals started making noise, and the infortainment system has frozen a couple of times. The price is not terrible, but for the price I expected better.

It depends, I think, on how you maintain it. I've religiously serviced and after 18 months my Astor still feels like brand new. A little TLC goes a long way.

I can say the Astor definitely feels more premium, coming from a Hyundai. I'm worried about long term durability, though. Can only time tell if it will match the reliability of more established brands?

It’s decent build quality, but not great. It's up there with the others in the segment, but don't expect Volkswagen levels of solidity. It’s a step up from budget cars but isn’t quite premium.

I’ve put 30,000 km on mine and it’s been beautiful. It's still got a fresh paint job and there are no rattles to speak of. I'm impressed.

There is nothing disappointing in exterior build quality but inside, the quality of plastics is a bit of cheap. Piano black trim is a scratch magnet. This is not a deal breaker, but you should know that.
