Is the ADAS of the MG Astor just a gimmick or the hype it is?

It is quite rare for its segment to offer the MG Astor with Level 2 ADAS features. But there has been a lot of debate about how useful these features actually are for Indian driving conditions. The adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist are some things that some owners swear by and others find more annoying than helpful. However, these systems can be highly effective, but only if the road conditions are good, traffic is light, and of course, the weather is cooperating. And do drivers who rely too much on ADAS become less attentive? Supporters counter that anything that can possibly prevent accidents is worth having. It is a big issue with lots of soul searching once we are sure of safety, technology and what the future holds for driving.

I've had my Astor for about 6 months now and ADAS is hit or miss. In the city traffic, it's more of a headache than a help, but great on highways. It turns out I end up turning it off most of the time.

Are you kidding? The ADAS is a game-changer! A few times it's saved my bacon when I'm tired on long drives. It's not perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than not having it at all.

I don’t think people are expecting enough from ADAS. It’s not a replacement for attentive driving, it’s an assistant. It's actually pretty useful once you know its limitations.

The problem is that MG hyped it too much. The tech is decent, but it's stretching to call it 'autonomous'. It’s more like enhanced cruise control with some extra bells and whistles.

I tested both the Astor and the Creta and the Astor’s ADAS feels more refined. Sure, it's not perfect, but it does take a step in the right direction for cars of this price.

I don’t want people to rely too much on ADAS and get complacent. Indian roads are unpredictable and it’s not foolproof. In fact, it might make some drivers less safe.

Astor has a good ADAS, but it needs more fine tuning for Indian conditions. Sometimes unmarked lanes and erratic traffic throw it off things. Perhaps future updates will enhance it?
