Is the limited space of the Supro Ambulance made up for by its fuel efficiency?
27 December 2024 10:28
So I wonder if we’re seeing this all wrong. Perhaps the answer is a combination of vehicle types: Supros for fast response that are fuel efficient and larger, more equipped ambulances for critical calls.
What does the Supro Ambulance's affordability mean for rural healthcare access?

The Supro Ambulance is a game changer, from my experience working in rural healthcare. When we had ambulances stationed in villages that had never had dedicated emergency transport. It’s not perfect, but it’s saving lives.

I understand your point, but I’m afraid we are settling for less. Sure, it's affordable, but are we really giving appropriate care? I know of cases where the equipment that the Supro has is not sufficient for critical patients.

Both of you are missing an important facet: sustainability. That makes the Supro affordable enough that we can keep a bigger fleet. Three Supros in an area are better than one advanced ambulance which is rarely available.

Let's talk about training. The Supro is simple in my region, and we can train more local drivers and paramedics quickly. It provides jobs and makes sure ambulances are staffed by people that are familiar with the area.

I think we're missing the psychological effect. Although it’s basic, a dedicated ambulance means rural communities feel a little safer and connected to the healthcare system. That's valuable in itself.
What does the Supro Ambulance's affordability mean for rural healthcare access?

The Supro has lower fuel and maintenance costs, which are important things for someone who works with budgets. That means we can invest more of those dollars in other areas of healthcare, like better equipment in clinics, more medical staff.
What does the Supro Ambulance's affordability mean for rural healthcare access?

I've seen an interesting trend: some areas use the Supro as a first responder, and if the situation is critical, they have agreements with the surrounding towns to call in more advanced ambulances. The tiered response system it’s creating is quite effective.
In extreme weather, how does the Supro Ambulance handle?
27 December 2024 10:28
I've driven the Supro Ambulance through some nasty monsoons, and it handles much better than you'd think. Less hydroplaning and it’s easier to maneuver around flooded spots, due to the small size.
In extreme weather, how does the Supro Ambulance handle?
27 December 2024 10:28
Yeah but I've had some scary moments when there's high winds. Being light weight makes it feel unstable on highway especially while passing trucks. In those conditions, I worry about patient safety.
In extreme weather, how does the Supro Ambulance handle?

You both forget the heat. I’ve found the AC doesn’t do a good job cooling the patient area during peak summer. When you're trying to keep patients stable in 40+ degree weather, it's a real issue.
In extreme weather, how does the Supro Ambulance handle?

It's a hilly area I work in, and the Supro's winter performance has been surprisingly good. The heater works good and does better on icy roads than I thought. Tires are the key and you must drive carefully.
In extreme weather, how does the Supro Ambulance handle?

Now, let’s get into the equipment. The Supro is pretty compact and I’ve found that actually helps with keeping the interior temperature more stable. That means less space to heat or cool, which means the systems have less work to do.
In extreme weather, how does the Supro Ambulance handle?

I think we’re missing maintenance. With the Supro, you have a simpler systems that enables you to keep running no matter what the weather is like. I’ve seen fancy ambulances sidelined by complex electrical issues caused by storms.

We have taken our Supros in my region and added extra insulation and upgraded the climate control. What this shows is that you can actually adapt these vehicles to handle pretty extreme conditions with some tweaks.
Is the body on frame construction of Scorpio – N outdated vis a vis modern monocoque SUVs?
27 December 2024 10:03
I have driven both, and I really must say I don't feel that the Scorpio-N is outdated. I like the solid, planted feel of a body on frame over some floaty monocoques.
Is the body on frame construction of Scorpio – N outdated vis a vis modern monocoque SUVs?
27 December 2024 10:03
It's definitely a trade-off. While the Scorpio-N is more rugged, you do notice the difference in handling over something like the XUV700. It is not outdated, it is just different.
Is the body on frame construction of Scorpio – N outdated vis a vis modern monocoque SUVs?
27 December 2024 10:03
As a city driver I find the body on frame construction a bit overkill. It helps the car feels heavier, less agile in traffic. For daily use, I’d like a monocoque.
Is the body on frame construction of Scorpio – N outdated vis a vis modern monocoque SUVs?
27 December 2024 10:03
What makes the Scorpio-N special is the body on frame. It’s not a car like crossover but it’s not trying to be one. If you want that, then buy something else. This is for the people who really want a proper, tough SUV.
Is the body on frame construction of Scorpio – N outdated vis a vis modern monocoque SUVs?

I believe Mahindra has managed the pros and cons well. The new Scorpio N is a better handling car than the old one, and still has the benefits of a body on frame.
