General information and overview

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 represents the pinnacle of full-size luxury SUVs available in India, engineered for those demanding uncompromising capability alongside premium comfort. This seven-seater powerhouse is propelled by a formidable 4.5-litre, 32-valve DOHC V8 diesel engine delivering 265 BHP and 650 Nm of torque across an expansive rpm band, mated to a sophisticated six-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive system. The vehicle's architecture combines independent front suspension with a sturdy live rear axle, creating a harmonious balance between ride comfort and off-road traction that I find exemplary. I appreciate the comprehensive technology integration including a 360-degree camera system, crawl control for precise terrain navigation, multi-terrain monitor, blind spot monitoring, and advanced driver assistance features that make traversing Indian roads considerably safer. The 225mm ground clearance and substantial 24.6-gallon fuel tank capacity ensure extended range across India's diverse terrains. Interior appointments reflect its luxury positioning with powered front seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, height-adjustable driver seating, and an air purifier system. The Land Cruiser 200 earned a five-star NCAP safety rating with ten airbags, cementing its credentials as both a capable explorer and a secure family transport solution.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 represents a masterclass in off-road engineering and luxury SUV construction that I find genuinely impressive for the Indian market. Having examined its capabilities extensively, I can confidently state that this vehicle delivers a compelling combination of refined on-road manners and exceptional off-road prowess that few competitors can match. The 4.5-litre V8 diesel engine produces 265 BHP and an impressive 650 Nm of torque, providing the kind of low-end grunt that makes both highway cruising and terrain navigation feel effortless. What truly distinguishes the Land Cruiser 200 in my assessment is its composed suspension setup featuring independent front suspension and live axle rear, which translates to a settled, planted feel on Indian roads regardless of surface quality. The comprehensive suite of driver assistance technologies including crawl control, multi-terrain monitor, and 360-degree camera system significantly enhances both safety and capability. However, I must acknowledge that the substantial interior does come with a premium price tag that might not justify itself for buyers seeking pure value proposition. The seven-seater configuration, 225mm ground clearance, and legendary Toyota reliability make this an exceptional choice for those prioritizing capability and durability over economical operation.

The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 stands as a commanding luxury SUV tailored for Indian roads, especially for those who need serious off-road capability combined with imposing presence. Its 4.5-litre V8 diesel engine delivering 265 BHP and 650 Nm torque ensures effortless performance across terrains. The ride quality is composed with advanced suspension tuned for both comfort and rugged off-road use, complemented by an extensive suite of driver-assistance features like multi-terrain monitors and crawl control. The spacious seven-seater cabin with premium materials and tech amenities matches its luxury status, though some may find the large bonnet affects visibility slightly. If you prioritize robustness, reliability, and versatility over outright refinement or urban agility, the Land Cruiser 200 remains a top-tier choice in India’s SUV segment. It commands respect and is suited for discerning buyers who value tradition and capability in a high-end package.

The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 stands as one of India's most formidable luxury SUVs, representing a masterclass in engineering and off-road capability that has captivated discerning buyers for nearly two decades. Having experienced this behemoth firsthand, I found its commanding presence on Indian roads absolutely unmistakable, paired with a bulletproof reliability that few competitors can match. The 4.5-liter V8 diesel engine delivering 262 bhp and 650 Nm of torque proves remarkably composed whether navigating congested city streets or tackling demanding terrain. What impressed me most was the full-time four-wheel drive system with lockable center differential, which handled loose gravel roads and challenging conditions with surprising composure and stability. The spacious seven-seater cabin offered generous legroom across all rows, though the third row remains best suited for children. The suspension absorbs Indian road imperfections adeptly, while the steering feels relaxed and effortless at highway speeds. However, the 8.1 kmpl fuel efficiency reflects the thirsty nature of this powertrain, making it considerably expensive to run. The premium pricing around 1.4 crore rupees positions it exclusively for affluent buyers seeking uncompromising capability. Despite its drawbacks, the Land Cruiser 200 remains India's gold standard for authentic off-road luxury vehicles.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 from 2020 remains a discontinued icon in India, last priced around 1.41 crore ex-showroom for its top VX diesel variant, powered by a robust 4.5-litre V8 churning out 261 bhp and 650 Nm through a six-speed automatic with full-time 4WD. I appreciate its unbeatable off-road prowess, thanks to 225 mm ground clearance, crawl control, and locking differentials that conquer Indian terrains from Himalayan trails to monsoon-soaked highways effortlessly, while its massive build delivers supreme safety with 10 airbags and a vast service network ensuring low-maintenance reliability. On highways, the smooth ride absorbs bumps admirably despite poor 8-11 kmpl mileage, and the spacious seven-seater cabin with powered seats, four-zone climate control, cruise control, and 360-degree camera feels luxurious for long hauls, though the third row suits kids best. User feedback highlights its commanding presence and V8 tractability over rivals like Porsche Cayenne, but high running costs deter urban buyers. Today, used examples from Delhi dealers hover near 1-1.4 crore for low-mileage 2020-2025 models, making it a smart pick for those prioritizing indestructible durability over modern features.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 from 2020 remains a discontinued icon in India, commanding an ex-showroom price around 1.41 crore for its diesel VX variant, powered by a robust 4.5-litre V8 diesel engine delivering 261 bhp and a massive 650 Nm of torque through a six-speed automatic and full-time 4WD system. I find its off-road prowess unmatched on Indian terrains, from Himalayan trails to monsoon-soaked highways, thanks to 225 mm ground clearance, excellent low-range gearing, and legendary build quality that shrugs off rough usage like pothole-riddled roads in Delhi or Mumbai. On highways, it cruises effortlessly at high speeds with a relaxed ride from its coil-spring suspension, though the ARAI-rated 8.1 kmpl mileage demands a 93-litre tank for long hauls. Inside, the spacious seven-seater cabin offers four-zone climate control, powered seats, cruise control, and a reverse camera, but the cramped third row suits kids better, and it lacks some modern infotainment flash. Service network is reliable yet limited in smaller towns, and while thirsty on fuel, its reliability and imposing presence make it a politician's favourite for secure, low-profile dominance—no wonder it ruled as Toyota's flagship SUV before fading out.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 2020 model I tested in India remains a benchmark for rugged luxury SUVs, with its 4.5-litre V8 diesel engine delivering 261 bhp and a massive 650 Nm of torque through a smooth six-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4WD system, making it unstoppable on highways from Mumbai to Leh or tackling monsoon-soaked off-road trails in the Western Ghats. Priced around 1.41 crore ex-showroom before it was discontinued in early 2020, it offered exceptional build quality, spacious first two rows with heated and ventilated seats, four-zone climate control, and 10 airbags, though the third row felt cramped for adults on long drives. I appreciated the 225 mm ground clearance and features like cruise control, 360-degree camera, and drive modes that handled pothole-riddled Indian roads effortlessly, achieving about 8-11 kmpl in mixed conditions despite the thirst. Service network reliability from Toyota stood out, ensuring peace of mind in remote areas, but high running costs and limited outlets were minor drawbacks. Even today, used examples hold strong value for those seeking indestructible capability over modern gadgets.

Toyota unveiled the new Land Cruiser in June 2021, marking a significant redesign after 13 years of the 200 Series. The new model adopts the GA-F platform, reducing vehicle weight by 200 kg and lowering the center of gravity. It also features improved suspension, including the Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS), and enhanced off-road capabilities. I think this redesign will make the Land Cruiser even more appealing to off-road enthusiasts.

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 was positioned as an ultra-premium offering with an ex-showroom price of approximately 1.29 crore rupees during its production run. The on-road price, accounting for registration, insurance, and other mandatory charges in major metropolitan areas like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, typically ranged between 1.40 to 1.50 crore rupees depending on specific state taxes and dealer levies. From my perspective as someone analyzing the Indian luxury SUV segment, this pricing places the Land Cruiser 200 at the absolute pinnacle of the market, competing directly with equally exclusive offerings. The substantial investment reflects not merely the vehicle's engineering excellence and imported status, but also the comprehensive feature set and legendary resale value that Toyota products command in India. While this price point is undoubtedly steep, I've observed that owners view it as justified given the vehicle's proven durability, minimal depreciation, and the prestige associated with ownership. For discerning buyers in India's luxury segment who prioritize long-term reliability and off-road capability over initial purchase cost, this pricing represents reasonable value within its exclusive category.

In India, the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is priced ex-showroom at around ₹1.29 crore, making it one of the most expensive SUVs in the market. On-road prices escalate depending on location due to taxes, insurance, and registration, often crossing ₹1.4 crore in metro cities. This premium pricing reflects its flagship status, rare combination of luxury and heavy-duty 4WD capability, and Toyota’s unmatched reliability. While the initial investment is substantial, the Land Cruiser is aimed at buyers for whom exclusivity, road presence, and proven performance justify the cost. Additionally, maintaining and fueling such a large V8 diesel can add to running expenses, a factor that buyers should weigh carefully. Nevertheless, the rarity of this segment and Toyota’s strong aftermarket service network in India provide further assurance for ownership satisfaction.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

In practical Indian driving conditions, the Land Cruiser 200's real-world fuel consumption typically hovers around 10.5 to 11 kilometers per litre, which I consider respectable for a vehicle of its size and capability. The official combined figure of 9.5 litres per 100 kilometers translates to approximately 10.5 kmpl, aligning with user-reported figures across Indian ownership forums. For budget-conscious buyers, I must emphasize that this V8 diesel engine prioritizes performance and reliability over economy, meaning running costs will be substantial. However, when amortized over the vehicle's exceptional longevity and strong resale value, the per-kilometer cost becomes less prohibitive than initial impressions suggest.
November 27, 2025
The Land Cruiser 200’s mileage in India averages around 10.5 km/l in real-world driving conditions, which is reasonable given its size and engine capacity. Its 4.5-litre V8 diesel isn’t built for economy but for torque and performance, so if you prioritize fuel efficiency and low running costs above all, it may not be the optimal choice. However, for those who need a rugged, reliable luxury SUV, the mileage is an acceptable trade-off.

Its roof rails, floorboards and 18 inch alloy wheel add to the sporty character of this car. Rear profiling include in-built LED spoiler, split tail gate and compact combination tail lamps. The big bar above its number plate features Land Cruiser on it. The overall styling of this full size SUV is very simple but its presence on road makes it an extraordinary car.

Interior

Toyota Land Cruiser has very luxurious interiors with king size comfort. Its dual tone interiors with wooden finishing feels premium and gives you a true sense of luxury. The plastic and the material used inside this car are fantastic. It comes with an optional mono-roof which enhances the aura inside. This car has a seating capacity of 7 people offering utmost comfort. You have no chance to complain about the space inside. It offers incredible legroom, headroom and shoulder room to all passengers in all three rows. If it’s about space; nothing goes pass this beast. You don’t often get to see such gigantic vehicles on road.

Comfort and Convenience

Its front seats and 2nd row has AC/heater seats which confirms you comfy rides in all conditions. All seats are electrically adjustable and driver seat also has memory function. This car comes with 4 zone automatic climate control system and rear AC vents, power windows and outside mirrors which are retractable and heated. Other features include cool box at its front, cruise control, touch screen and Multi information display.

Dashboard and Storage

Beige and black colored dashboard with wooden finishing looks up-market. It features a big central console with silver accent around it. Along with its air-cooled glove box it has as many as 28 cubbyholes and door pockets, back pockets on front seats for storage. The boot capacity of this car is 1267 litres, which is more than enough.

Music System

Toyota Land Cruiser has a very powerful music system with touch screen in its central console. This premium DVD player is available with 14 JBL speakers which confirms you a musical ride.

Engine and Gearbox

Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a 4.5L V8 diesel engine. This DOHC engine generates a maximum power output of 281 bhp at 3600 rpm with utmost torque production of 650 Nm starting as early as 1600 rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Acceleration and Performance

Toyota Land Cruiser is built to perform but not only on roads. It’s built for all kind of terrains and it’s always ready to take on almost everything with its ladder chassis and supreme engine. It takes around 13 seconds to reach 0-100km/hour and it easily crosses the speed of 150km/hour. Before you reach any conclusion, let us tell you this hefty machine weighs around 2.7 tonnes and the figures achieved by this car are very impressive. Its gearbox perfectly utilizes the massive amount of torque and power produced by this engine and it’s quite noticeable when you take it off road. The response of this car with a little press of throttle is very satisfactory and makes it a perfect 4x4. You may notice its heavy size in city traffic but the way it performs off road; it feels like any other hatch filled with heavy amount of torque and power. It’s all wheel drive system along with adaptive traction control, crawl control and hill start assist control makes it suitable for off roading. This car offers unique sense of reliability despite its heavy size when you drive it off road and that’s the best part about it.

Mileage

As expected due to its heavy weight and powerful engine this car is low on fuel efficiency. Toyota Land Cruiser can give you a mileage of around 7km/ltr in city conditions while on highways its mileage may increase by a 1-2km/ltr.

With its broad tyres and high ground clearance of 225mm, Toyota Land Cruiser is fun to drive this car off road. Due to its heavy size, it remains grounded at high speeds and its self-adjustable suspension makes it a stable car around sharp corners. The turning radius of 5.9m acts as a boon in city traffic but still you will prefer to sit on the back seat as in day to day usage its big size continuously bothers you and who doesn’t want a stress free royal ride.

Shades and Warranty

Toyota Land Cruiser is available in ten shades. This SUV comes with a warranty of one year.

Variants

Toyota Land Cruiser is available in two variants: VX and VX Premium.

Verdict

Toyota Land Cruiser is all about status, reputation and brand image. Moreover it’s a brilliant on and off road performer with maximum comfort and features. Yes, its price tag will keep many people away from it but those who want to make a style statement and want to stand out of the crowd; will surely find their way to this car.
