Our take on this /// Verdict
The Renault Fluence is a highly underrated car in the Indian market, offering a compelling package of comfort, handling, and practicality. I find it extremely comfortable to drive, with a ride quality that is among the best in its segment. The steering is precise and light at low speeds, yet weights up nicely at higher speeds, providing confidence-inspiring highway runs. Although the heavy clutch and turbolag can be bothersome in congested traffic, once you get accustomed to it, the engine proves to be refined and punchy. The interior is well-appointed with decent equipment, including features like automatic climate control, leather seats, and ample storage spaces. However, the lack of certain features in the diesel variant compared to the petrol version is a notable drawback. Overall, if you are looking for a fun-to-drive vehicle with good comfort, practicality, and space, the Renault Fluence is definitely worth considering.
Price
The Renault Fluence was priced competitively in the Indian market, with the base model, Fluence E2 D, starting at around Rs. 14.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and the top model, Fluence E4 D, priced at approximately Rs. 16.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). On-road prices would typically be higher, adding costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, which could push the prices to around Rs. 17-20 lakh for the top variant. While the pricing might seem a bit on the higher side, the Fluence offers a solid build quality, excellent ride and handling, and a host of features that make it a value-for-money proposition in its segment.
Latest Updates

Renault India has discontinued the Renault Fluence, marking the end of its production in India since 2017. The Fluence was a compact sedan that competed with the likes of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Its discontinuation reflects the shifting market preferences towards SUVs and other vehicle segments. I think this move was inevitable given the changing consumer tastes.

In 2014, Renault launched the facelift version of the Fluence in India, priced at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This updated model featured a sporty and progressive design inspired by Renault’s new brand identity. The facelift included several cosmetic and feature upgrades to keep the car competitive in the market. I believe this facelift was a good attempt to revamp the cars appeal.

Renault introduced the Fluence E4 D, an updated diesel version, priced at Rs 15.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in April 2012. This model came with an enhanced diesel engine and additional features that were previously missing in the diesel variants. The update was aimed at making the diesel version more appealing to buyers. I think this move helped in attracting more diesel enthusiasts.

The Renault Fluence was initially launched in India in 2011 with both petrol and diesel engine options. The car was priced between Rs 12-14 lakh and was set to compete in the premium sedan segment. Bookings for the car began immediately, with deliveries scheduled to start in June 2011. I believe the initial pricing was competitive, but the market response was mixed.

The Renault Fluence was assembled in India at the Renault Nissan India plant in Chennai. The production started in 2011 and continued until the model was discontinued in 2017. The local assembly helped in keeping the costs lower and making the car more affordable for Indian buyers. I think local production was a smart move to tap into the Indian market.

The Renault Fluence featured a range of engines, including a 1.5-liter dCi diesel engine and petrol options. The diesel engine was available in various power outputs, and the top model could be fitted with Renaults Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission. This variety in engine options was aimed at catering to different buyer preferences. I believe the engine options were quite robust for its segment.

The Fluence had a sleek design and was based on the Renault-Nissan C platform. It had a wheelbase of 2,702 mm and dimensions that made it a comfortable fit in the compact sedan category. The cars design was praised for its elegance and practicality. I think the design held up well against its competitors.

Renault emphasized the comfort and features of the Fluence, including a height-adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, and leather seats. These features were intended to position the Fluence as a premium offering in its segment. I believe these features helped in enhancing the overall driving experience.

The Fluence was expected to compete directly with other popular sedans like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Skoda Laura. Renaults strategy was to offer a blend of style, comfort, and performance to attract buyers in the premium sedan market. I think the competition was fierce, but the Fluence had its unique selling points.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 11:45 PM
The Renault Fluence boasts an impressive mileage, with the diesel variant claiming an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 20.4 kmpl. In real-world conditions, you can expect to achieve around 13-14 kmpl, which is still quite respectable for a car in this segment. This makes the Fluence a good choice for those concerned about running costs and mileage, especially for those who frequently drive long distances.
