Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology Edition One is a game-changer in the luxury electric SUV segment in India. This vehicle combines the iconic design and robust build of the traditional G-Class with the cutting-edge technology of electric propulsion. With its powerful dual motors producing 579 bhp and 859 lb-ft of torque, it offers unparalleled performance. The luxurious interior, complete with nappa leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and massaging seats, ensures a premium driving experience. However, the steep price tag of Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom) may be a deterrent for many potential buyers. Despite this, for those seeking a unique blend of off-road capability, high-performance electric power, and opulent comfort, the G 580 Edition One is an irresistible choice.
Price
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology Edition One comes with a hefty price tag of Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom) in India. When you factor in additional costs such as insurance, TCS charges, and other expenses, the on-road price escalates to approximately Rs 3.14 crore in cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. In other cities, the on-road price can vary slightly, for instance, Rs 3.44 crore in Bangalore and Rs 3.29 crore in Kochi. This pricing positions the G 580 Edition One in a niche market, targeting affluent buyers who are willing to invest in a luxury electric vehicle with exclusive features and performance.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is set to arrive in late 2024, initially available exclusively in the well-equipped Edition One trim. This electric G-Wagen combines traditional G-Class luxury with cutting-edge EV innovation, featuring dual 12.3-inch screens, an MBUX system, and a Burmester® surround sound system. The vehicle boasts four individually controlled electric motors, a De Dion rear axle, and a robust underbody armor with carbon fiber components.

The G 580 with EQ Technology is praised for its off-road capabilities, with four electric motors providing superior traction and a 33.5-inch wading depth. It also features an advanced driver assistance system, though specific details are yet to be announced. The vehicles interior includes an Offroad Cockpit display and an optional rear-seat entertainment system with 11.6-inch displays. I think this blend of luxury and off-road prowess makes it a standout in its class.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the G 580 with EQ Technology will have a battery capacity of 116 kWh, providing an estimated range of around 240 miles. The vehicle can fast-charge from 10-80% in 32 minutes with a peak DC fast-charge rate of 200 kW. It also features a combined power output of 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque.
Monday, 13 May 2024 09:35 AM
The electric G-Wagen retains the classic G-Class design but with slight stylistic revisions for aerodynamics. It uses a de Dion tube setup for the solid rear axle to accommodate the electric motors, a solution that has been described as hilariously outdated but effective. The vehicles weight is around 6,801 lbs, and it has a towing capacity of 7,716 lbs. I believe this unique setup adds to its charm and capability.
Monday, 13 May 2024 01:15 AM
The G 580 with EQ Technology is noted for its quiet and refined on-road performance, despite its heavy weight and slow steering. It features a G-Roar soundbar under the bonnet, which can be turned off, and lacks an Eco mode, reflecting Mercedes focus on performance over efficiency. The vehicles top speed is electronically limited to 112 mph.
Monday, 15 April 2024 04:13 PM
Mercedes-Benz has priced the 2025 G 580 with EQ Technology Edition One at around Rs. 1.43 crore (approximately $168,000 USD), making it a luxury item with a substantial price tag. The vehicle comes with advanced features like Active Multicontour Seat Plus and a Burmester® surround sound system with Dolby Atmos® technology. I think the price reflects its premium status and innovative technology.
Wednesday, 20 March 2024 03:54 AM
The G 580 with EQ Technology has been tested for its off-road capabilities, showing remarkable performance with its four electric motors and specialized suspension setup. It offers silent running in off-road modes, enhancing the driving experience. However, the vehicles on-road handling is described as vague and under-damped, a trade-off for its comfort and off-road prowess.
Saturday, 10 February 2024 01:43 PM
Mercedes-Benz has emphasized that the G 580 with EQ Technology is designed to maintain the traditional G-Class driving experience while incorporating electric power. The vehicle features a redesigned center console with G-Turn and G-Steering controls and an optional rear-seat entertainment system. I think this blend of old and new is a winning formula for loyal G-Class fans.

I believe this could be a game-changer in the Indian luxury SUV market.
Mileage
Monday, 13 January 2025 11:30 AM
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology Edition One boasts an impressive electric range of 473 km on a single charge, according to the specifications. This range, combined with a rapid DC fast-charging capability that can charge the battery from 10 to 80 in just 32 minutes, makes it a viable option for both city driving and long road trips. Considering the running costs, the electric powertrain is likely to be more economical in the long run compared to its diesel counterpart, especially with the rising fuel prices in India.

Discussions and Questions Mercedes G 580 Edition One
So how will the G 580 Edition One’s limited customization options affect its appeal to traditional G-Wagen enthusiasts?
13 January 2025 12:30
Mercedes have made a smart move. By limiting options they streamline production and get an idea of which configurations do and don’t sell so they can do things differently with future models.
Is the G 580's "G Turn" (360 degree spin) really a gimmick or will it be useful?
13 January 2025 12:30
I think we underestimate how useful this could be in cities. Think about parallel parking, or trying to turn around in an alley. This could be a game changer for urban driving.
The G 580 Edition One is all that and more, but is it worth the hype, or do you just pay for a status symbol?
13 January 2025 12:30
Hands down a overpriced status symbol. The range is disappointing for the money and let's be honest, most buyers will never take it off road. It's just a way for rich people to get their eco-friendly on, while they show off at the same time.
But will the G 580's boxy design have a material effect on its real world range?
13 January 2025 12:30
But we'll see how they perform in real world tests. I think it’ll be okay for city driving, but long highway trips might be a little rough. Still, most G-Wagen owners aren't road tripping to begin with.
Does the electric drivetrain of the G 580 improve or deteriorate its off road capabilities?
13 January 2025 12:30
It's a mixed bag. If the batteries are heavy, they will be an issue in soft terrain, but the electric motors will be fantastic for low speed maneuvers. I’d like to see some real world tests before I make a judgment.
