Maruti Super Carry Diesel Review
Overview
Maruti Super Carry: My Personal Take
When I took for a spin Maruti Super Carry, I was looking at it and thinking “Wait, Maruti now makes a mini truck?” Haven’t Maruti always been synonymous with hatchbacks and sedans, and not a vehicle meant for hauling goods across town, I mean? So the Super Carry was just another small commercial vehicle as such, but the Super Carry attracted my attention because it wasn’t just another small commercial vehicle but it felt like Maruti’s way of saying, “We’re here for your business needs too!”
But does the Super Carry really offer enough to make it a practical and reliable small truck, or is it just another mini loader cash grab to take advantage of demand? Let’s break it down.
Maruti Super Carry: What’s All the Hype About?
Maruti Super Carry is part of the line of mini trucks developed for city deliveries and the small businesses. For urban operations, whether delivery of goods to a store or moving materials over a job site, these compact trucks have become indispensable. The idea behind Maruti’s offering is to strike a balance between reliability, cost efficiency and practicality.
The fact this mini-truck exists from a company renowned for passenger cars is what interests me. Built for work, however, the car has a lot of Maruti’s car making DNA — it’s durable, easy to maintain and easy to use.
Design and Build: Compact Yet Capable
The Super Carry isn’t really putting its best foot forward upon first glance. It really comes down to function versus form. But that’s not a bad thing, like a tool that always works when you want it to and without fuss. Plenty of cargo room, but it’s compact enough to handle narrow streets, and enough so that it’s useful for a small business.
More solid than any of the others when I first checked out the Super Carry. The metal body is rugged and the cargo space isn’t huge, but is well thought out for daily hauling. That truck isn’t for show, it’s to do the job. That’s also exactly what you want in a vehicle like that, frankly.
Engine and Performance: What’s Under the Hood?
Let’s now discuss what is powering this little beast. Ground-breaking Super Carry has a 793cc diesel engine giving out about 32 horsepower. That isn’t a whole lot, of course, especially when we’re talking about a mini truck, not a car. It’s designed for fulfilment in the crowded city and commuting short distances where speed isn’t the only factor.
I like this engine because it has good torque, 75Nm being a solid figure for such mild engine in this class. A low end torque is great when you have to carry loads, especially when you’re doing stop and go traffic. It won’t be setting a speed record out of town, but it will get from point A to point B without pausing to take a breath. Also it’s diesel, so it’s got the bits to make it last but not the bits to burn a hole in your pocket.
Handling and Ride Quality: Comfort on the Job?
The ride quality on the Super Carry also surprised me. It’s actually pretty good for a truck. The suspension setup is very basic, but who cares if the bumps and rough roads aren’t an issue. It’s important, if you’re going to be driving this thing for hours at a time.
The road steering is light enough to navigate tight city spaces, something you’ll definitely appreciate because it’s delivering quick. The turning radius is so tight that you're not going to be battling with the wheel when you're challenging for tight parking spots.
Features and Practicality: Inside the Super Carry
The Super Carry isn’t about luxury, let’s be honest. You’re not going to find plush interiors here. This is a work truck so the cabin is purely functional and that’s okay. Maruti hasn’t completely ignored comfort either. The seats are basic but comfy for driving long. The dashboard is straight forward with crap instrumentation. There is still the odd handy storage space for the essentials, always a bonus.
But that truth is wrapped in practicality. For a truck this size the Super Carry has a payload capacity around 740 kg which is quite good. It is a pick up that features a flat cargo bed that makes it easy to stack and transport goods to a store, or equipment to a job site.
Let’s talk about fuel efficiency and and. Given how much diesel prices are, businesses need vehicles that wouldn’t guzzle fuel and the Super Carry does, promised mileage of 22 kmpl. That’s a huge win for any small business owner who is trying to keep operating costs low.
What is Maruti Super Carry For?
Should I recommend the Super Carry? Sure, but that’s for a certain (read: exclusive) audience. This mini-truck is a great choice for people who run small business as a city delivery vehicle if you're looking for something reliable and cost effective. As a shop owner, as a contractor, as a local courier service, the Super Carry could turn out to be your vehicle.
Also, if you’re in the market for a no frills, low maintenance truck that can carry a good amount of cargo with almost no effort this is great since its not very expensive. Maruti being Maruti, you know you’re getting a vehicle which is built to lasts and at significantly less than what would usually be considered an affordable price.
What to Keep in Mind
As with any vehicle, the Super Carry is not perfect though. It’s a great engine for the city, but you will likely find the engine is lacking a bit in horsepower to get you up to highway speed and hauling heavier loads over long distances. As it’s geared towards the shorter urban hauls, if your business needs include more long-distance travel, you might want to consider something else.
Cabin, too, pretty bare bones, and let’s not forget and. There are no modern creature comforts or high tech features if you’re hunting… It’s just a truck built for work.
Final Thoughts: Should I Buy Maruti Super Carry?
If you need a reliable, cost effective vehicle to delivery your small business within the city in India, the Maruti Super Carry is a no brainer. Simple, solid, effective and fuss free. With its compact design, very low running costs and decent cargo capacity, it is an ideal choice for the business owner who wants to maximize efficiency at the lowest possible cost.
But what do you think? Do you have the Super Carry that will fulfill your business needs, or are you searching for something larger or more feature packed? Drop them in the comments below and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Worst engine, will get open in 5000 km
I have bought this vehicle in July 18, there were no booklets and manuals of this vehicle available at showroom that was the first strange, then they told they will send it within a week time but they didn't turn up, before I bought this vehicle everyday they used to come to my office and force me to buy but after I purchased no one turned up. I have used it for six months, drove about 5000 kms and engine finished, firstly they said it will get sorted out and the expenses will be around Rs. 40000/-. I said it's not my responsibility and started blaming the Company then they said you don't need to worry about the engine is in warranty we will sort it out within a week or 10 days. I said if I want to sell this vehicle, engine is opened now and it's repaired, obviously no one will treat this vehicle as a perfect one and no one will give a proper price and they haven't got any reply to it and saying that's your luck. I personally say this vehicle is nice but only for few months and kms not for long with this I have got a huge loss on our business as all my deliveries are on hold, simply I sold my Tata Ace which wasn't giving a single problem that was from a year and was driven around 10000 kms. My suggestion is don't go for maruti super carry it was a very bad experience and no staff is helpful there.
Best Features: Body size
Pros: Size of load
Cons: Engine can't go long
