Maruti Celerio Diesel VDi (O)

About
The Maruti Celerio Diesel VDi (O) is powered by a 793 cc, two-cylinder DDiS 125 engine, which is the smallest diesel engine in any passenger car worldwide. Despite its small size, the engine offers decent driveability in city conditions, though it lacks power on highways and suffers from noticeable turbo lag below 2000 rpm. The car features a well-packaged cabin with generous headroom, adequate legroom, and a 235-liter boot. The suspension provides a neutral ride quality and predictable handling, making it suitable for daily city use. However, the engines refinement is a letdown, with a crude engine note and vibrations felt during startup and idling. The VDi (O) variant includes additional features such as safety enhancements, which add to its overall value.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti Celerio Diesel VDi (O) is a practical and economical choice for those prioritizing fuel efficiency and affordability. While it may not impress with its styling or engine refinement, it excels in city driving with its peppy performance up to 70-80 kph and decent driveability. However, the engines poor refinement, noticeable vibrations, and lack of power on highways are significant drawbacks. The cars well-packaged cabin, generous headroom, and adequate legroom are positives, but the higher variants come with a substantial price premium. For daily city commutes, this car is a good option, but for those who frequently drive on highways, it might not be the best choice.
Price
The Maruti Celerio Diesel VDi (O) was launched in India with a price range of between Rs. 4.65 lakhs to Rs. 5.71 lakhs (ex-Delhi). The VDi (O) variant specifically falls on the higher end of this spectrum, priced around Rs. 5.5 lakhs ex-showroom. On-road prices vary by city but can be expected to be around Rs. 6.5 lakhs to Rs. 6.9 lakhs in major cities like Mumbai. This pricing makes it one of the most affordable diesel cars in India, though the premium over the petrol version is substantial. The cost, however, is justified by its exceptional fuel economy and Marutis reliable after-sales service.
Latest Updates
Tuesday, 01 October 2024 12:55 AM Despite its discontinuation, the Maruti Celerio continues to be popular in its petrol and CNG variants. The company has been offering various discounts and updates to keep the model competitive. I think the Celerio remains a solid choice for those seeking a reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle.
Wednesday, 01 April 2020 01:52 AM Maruti Suzuki had to discontinue the diesel variants of the Celerio due to stricter emission norms and declining demand for diesel cars. This move was part of the companys strategy to focus more on petrol and CNG options. I believe this shift was necessary given the changing market and regulatory landscape.
Wednesday, 24 June 2015 11:24 AM The Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel VDi, although discontinued, was once known for its fuel efficiency, claiming a mileage of 27 kmpl, making it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India. Its diesel variant was available in several trims, including the VDi. I think its fuel efficiency was a significant selling point, especially for those looking to save on fuel costs.
Wednesday, 24 June 2015 11:33 AM In terms of design and features, the Celerio VDi came with basic but essential amenities such as central locking, child safety locks, and an air conditioner. The interior was well-insulated, reducing the noise from the diesel engine. I believe these features made it a practical choice for daily use.
Wednesday, 24 June 2015 01:13 AM The Maruti Celerio Diesel VDi had a 793 CC DDiS engine, producing 47 bhp and 125 Nm of torque. It was known for its performance, especially in city driving conditions, though it had a slight learning curve for smooth driving in heavy traffic. I think the engines refinement was a highlight, despite some minor issues with throttle response.
