Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mahindra Marazzo Diesel M8 is a solid choice for those seeking a reliable and comfortable multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in India. While it may not be loaded with the latest features, its refined 1.5-litre diesel engine and smooth six-speed gearbox make it a pleasure to drive, especially in urban and highway conditions. The vehicles well-thought-out practical interiors, including features like rear AC vents, tumble fold seats, and a conversation mirror, enhance its usability. However, the engines power-to-weight ratio can be a bit of a letdown, particularly when the vehicle is fully loaded and climbing steep inclines. Despite this, its ride comfort, even on varied road surfaces, and the robust suspension make it a compelling option for family use. The Marazzo also boasts a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating, adding to its appeal.
Price
The Mahindra Marazzo Diesel M8, although it has been delisted from Mahindras official website, was last priced around 14.68 lakh ex-showroom in India. On-road prices, which include additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, would typically range from 17 lakh to 18 lakh, depending on the state and city. Its important to note that prices may vary based on the region and any ongoing offers or discounts. Given its features and performance, the Marazzo M8 offered good value for money, especially for those prioritizing comfort, practicality, and reliability.
Latest Updates
Wednesday, 31 July 2024 09:17 AM
Mahindra has reinstated the Marazzo on its official website after a brief removal, quelling rumors of its discontinuation. The MPV now comes with a price hike of around Rs 20,000 across all variants and is available in both 7- and 8-seater configurations. Despite its poor sales, Mahindra is keen to maintain its presence in the MPV segment. I believe this move shows Mahindras commitment to the market, even if the Marazzo hasnt been a huge success.

The Mahindra Marazzo, launched in 2018, has not received any major updates during its lifecycle, which has negatively impacted its sales. The MPV, known for its refined 1.5-litre diesel engine and practical interiors, has sold an average of just 34 units per month over the last five months. The lack of a petrol engine and an automatic transmission has made it less competitive in the market. I think regular updates and more engine options could have helped the Marazzo fare better.

Mahindra Marazzos design and engineering were unique, being the first car developed by the Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Michigan, USA. It featured a ladder-frame platform and a front-wheel drive setup, which, although innovative, did not provide the same traction as rear-wheel drive models like the Toyota Innova Crysta, especially in hilly regions. I believe this design choice, while interesting, may have contributed to its limited appeal.

The Mahindra Marazzo was temporarily removed from the companys official website, sparking speculation about its potential discontinuation. Launched in September 2018, the Marazzo failed to gain significant traction, selling only 44,783 units until May 2024. Its unique ladder-on-frame chassis and front-wheel drive layout, though innovative, did not seem to appeal to the Indian market. I think the lack of updates and the absence of a petrol or automatic transmission option significantly hindered its sales.

Mahindra Marazzos sales have been dwindling, with the MPV selling just 12 units in June 2024. Despite this, the vehicle remains on the market, albeit with some significant drawbacks such as being available only in diesel and with a manual transmission. The Marazzos competitors, like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens, offer more engine and transmission options, making them more appealing to buyers. I believe these limitations have been major stumbling blocks for the Marazzos success.

The Mahindra Marazzo Diesel M8 offers impressive fuel efficiency, which is a significant factor for many buyers in India. According to tests, it achieves a mileage of 14.86 kmpl in city conditions and 16.96 kmpl on the highway. These figures make it an economical choice for both urban and long-distance driving, helping to keep running costs manageable.
