General information and overview

The Infiniti G37, launched globally around 2008 as a compact executive sedan, features a punchy 3.7-liter VQ37VHR V6 engine with 320 PS, paired to a slick seven-speed auto or manual in some trims, enabling 0-100 kmph in under 6 seconds—ideal for India's overtaking needs on NH48. Rear-wheel drive with optional ATTESA all-wheel traction ensures planted grip in monsoons, while 18-inch alloys and Brembo brakes deliver confidence-inspiring stops. Inside, dual-zone climate, Bose audio, and navigation (retrofit common) cater to luxury tastes, though boot space at 465 liters suits weekend getaways. In India, it's purely pre-owned via imports, with strong build quality holding up to 1.5 lakh km if serviced promptly, but watch for timing chain stretch post-1 lakh km. Key aspects include its undervalued status at Rs 35-45 lakh on-road, superior ride over choppy roads versus German peers, and modding potential via aftermarket ECUs boosting to 350+ hp cheaply. For buying, prioritize low-mileage sedans with full logs; it's my pick for balanced performance-luxury without ostentation.

The Infiniti G37 sedan is built around Nissan’s highly regarded VQ 3.7‑litre V6, producing strong midrange and high‑rev power with a smooth automatic or manual option in earlier models, packaged in a compact executive sedan with rear‑wheel drive dynamics, balanced steering and a focus on driver engagement. Interior appointments include supportive seats, generous equipment for its era (leather, climate control, premium audio options) and a well‑weighted feel to controls, though some electronic features and trim pieces may show age on used Indian imports; safety levels are reasonable for its generation but will lag modern entrants. In India the car is mainly available as parallel‑imported used examples, which means condition, history and compliance with local regulations differ between units, and spares/service require specialist workshops or imported parts that raise ownership costs. I recommend checking full service records, verifying accident history, confirming parts availability for your state, and budgeting for higher fuel and maintenance expenses before committing.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Infiniti G37 a thrilling luxury sedan that stands out in India's market for enthusiasts craving Japanese precision and power, with its 3.7-liter V6 engine delivering 320 horsepower and rear-wheel-drive dynamics that make every drive exhilarating on our highways. In my experience testing similar performance sedans, the G37's sharp handling, responsive seven-speed automatic transmission, and sport-tuned suspension provide unmatched driver engagement, far surpassing mainstream rivals in feel and feedback. The interior wraps you in supple leather and high-quality materials, with supportive seats ideal for long journeys from Mumbai to Pune, though rear space is snug for taller passengers. Reliability has been solid in my observations of pre-owned units, with common fixes like coil packs and cam sensors manageable at independent Nissan specialists since Infiniti shares VQ engine DNA. However, its thirst for premium fuel and premium maintenance costs make it a choice for those prioritizing passion over practicality—perfect if you drive spiritedly under 10,000 km annually, but I'd advise budgeting extra for parts imported via grey markets. Overall, I recommend it wholeheartedly for buyers seeking a BMW 3-Series alternative with better value in the used segment around Rs 35-50 lakh, delivering smiles per kilometer that few others match in India.

I find the Infiniti G (G37 sedan) to be a compelling choice if you prioritise smooth V6 performance, a well-built cabin and a premium feel that undercuts equivalent German saloons in everyday refinement; the 3.7‑litre VQ V6 delivers linear power and a satisfying soundtrack, the chassis balances comfort with competent handling, and the interior materials and equipment list still feel upmarket compared with many rivals in India despite the model being older and largely available only as a used import. Ownership caveats include comparatively low fuel economy for city use, potentially high parts and service costs because Infiniti has effectively been absent from the Indian dealer network for years, and the difficulty of sourcing genuine parts which makes a thorough pre‑purchase inspection essential. If you value driving engagement, rare badge prestige and strong highway performance more than low running costs and widespread aftersales support, the G is a rewarding, characterful pick; if you need low operating cost, easy service access and assured resale in India, I would steer toward mainstream alternatives.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

While Infiniti is reportedly gearing up to revive the Q50 sedan with a powerful 400 HP twin-turbo V6 and manual gearbox in late 2027, there has been no confirmation of the G series itself making a comeback in India. This hints Infiniti’s focus could shift to sport sedans rather than reviving older G models. The fan in me is hopeful for a modern, engaging Infiniti sedan down the line.

A June 2025 update showed detailed customization on an Infiniti G37S, emphasizing that though Infiniti doesn’t officially market G-series cars in India anymore, a niche group of owners still maintains these sporty cars. These personal modifications keep the G’s reputation alive in enthusiast circles despite its discontinued status. I think this shows the G’s lasting appeal among car fans who want sporty luxury beyond mainstream offerings.

The Infiniti G37S with a 6-speed manual transmission saw several modifications and updates as of June 2025, showing continued interest from enthusiasts in customizing this sporty luxury coupe. The recent video update highlights ongoing tweaks that enhance its driving experience and style. I think its great to see passionate owners keeping the G line vibrant and relevant even years after production ended.

The Infiniti G37, although not a new model, has seen significant depreciation in the used car market, making it an attractive option for buyers in 2025. With its 328 horsepower and well-composed suspension, it offers a fun and reliable driving experience. I think the value and fun factor it provides make it a great buy for those looking for a powerful yet affordable luxury car.
February 24, 2025
There has been no official announcement from Infiniti about bringing the G37 back into production or introducing it in the Indian market. This suggests that any interest in the G37 would be limited to the used car segment. I believe this lack of new models could make the existing G37s even more sought after by enthusiasts.

Price

Pricing details and changes

New Infiniti G models were never officially sold through a wide dealer network in India in recent years, so pricing in India refers predominantly to used-import examples; typical asking prices for a well‑spec’d G37 sedan (late‑2000s to early‑2010s models, good condition) range roughly between ₹20 lakh and ₹35 lakh ex‑showroom equivalent depending on year, condition, mileage and import paperwork, with pristine low‑miler or rare trim examples occasionally commanding higher sums. On‑road cost in India will add registration, insurance and local taxes which vary by state and can increase the out‑the‑door price by another 8–18% or more over the ex‑showroom equivalent for a used import; additionally plan for an immediate budget for service, wear items and any pending repairs since many cars arrive from overseas after high mileage or long storage. From my perspective, buyers should treat the listed price as the start of negotiation and add a buffer for potential maintenance and parts sourcing; a thorough PDI (pre‑delivery inspection) and verified service history materially affect value, and a clean, locally supported example is worth paying a premium for.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

In India, the G37 returns about 7 kmpl city and 11 kmpl highway on premium petrol, leading to steep running costs of Rs 25-30/km with fuel at Rs 110/litre. I recommend it only if mileage isn't your priority—opt for hybrids like Camry for savings, as this thirst will add Rs 8 lakh over 1 lakh km, hurting buy decisions focused on efficiency.
December 20, 2025
Expect real‑world fuel economy in India to be modest—typically around 6–9 kmpl in city driving and up to 11–13 kmpl on steady highways for the 3.7‑litre V6, so running costs are higher than compact petrol or diesel alternatives. If you drive long highway distances frequently the G can be acceptable, but for predominantly urban commuting the fuel cost will be a major ownership factor.
