Hyundai Tucson Review

Expert Review by Maxabout

Overview

Hyundai has updated its second SUV for 2022, the Tucson, which is the company's flagship model. Tucson has received a generation upgrade this time around and aims to compete with new and established rivals in the premium mid-size SUV segment. To accomplish this, it has newer looks, more equipment, a slew of features, and even ADAS.

The Hyundai Tucson is a high-end mid-size SUV. The premium soft-road SUV is a global product that provides plenty of cabin space, powerful engine options, and the ability to do some trail driving. The Hyundai Tucson is equipped with an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system that automatically adapts to road or tarmac conditions and delivers power to all four wheels when and where needed. This year, Hyundai will launch the latest iteration of the SUV in India. The new Hyundai Tucson SUV has already been listed on the company's official website, and its release date is set for the near future.

Hyundai Tucson Design and Style

The exterior styling of the new Tucson has been completely redesigned, giving the SUV a new and appealing appearance. Beginning with the front, Tucson now sports a new 'parametric-jewel' face as part of the carmaker's global 'Sensuous Sportiness' design philosophy. Essentially, Tucson introduces new lighting technology that neatly integrates the LED DRL units into the front grille design, causing them to blend in with the pattern when turned off. In addition, the LED headlamps are now mounted vertically on the bumper, while the fog lights have been removed.

On the outside, the sloping roofline of the refreshed SUV is highlighted by a sporty chrome insert near the D-pillar, while the sharp edges on the front fender that continue and merge with the tail lamps give the Tucson an appealing character. Furthermore, the Tucson's squared wheel arches, thick plastic cladding, and 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels give it a muscular stance. The Hyundai Tucson has also grown in size when compared to its predecessor. The SUV is now 150mm longer, measuring 4,630mm in length. The wheelbase is also extended by 85mm, as evidenced by the ample legroom for the rear passengers.

2023 Hyundai Tucson maintains its attractive rear end, which features a wide tail lamp with a claw-type design and a connecting light stripe. The signature parametric-jewel design remains on the reprofiled bumpers, while the number plate recess on the boot lid has been moved up. The rear wiper, which has been cleverly tucked under the stop lamp, is an intriguing feature.

Hyundai Tucson Engine and Gearbox

2023 Hyundai Tucson is propelled by two sets of engines under its long hood. The first is a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 156 hp and 192 Nm of max torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a 2.0-litre oil-burner engine with 185 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque and an eight-speed automatic transmission. You can also get all-wheel drive with the diesel engine, which comes with three terrain modes: snow, mud, and sand. Meanwhile, all variants come standard with four drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, and Smart.

Hyundai Tucson Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

2023 Hyundai Tucson is equipped with McPherson Strut front suspension and Multi-link with Coil Spring rear suspension. The disc brakes on both ends handle the braking duties. Hyundai equipped the Tucson with 235/60-R18 Diamond cut alloy wheels and Tubeless tyres.

Tucson's ride and handling characteristics are tuned in the typical Hyundai fashion. The overall design leans towards the softer side. This means that the suspension is soft and provides a cushioned ride to passengers at city speeds. Broken roads and bad patches are well eaten up, and NVH levels inside the cabin are also well controlled. The steering feedback is also very light for city use, and Tucson's manoeuvrability on congested roads is quite good. However, as you approach the highway, Tucson begins to move and pitch. This is because the setup is softer. Tucson is not a fan's dream from the highway. The braking system works well, and the handling is neutral, providing a good sense of control at triple-digit speeds.

Interior of Hyundai Tucson

The new Tucson's cabin is a step up from the previous model, and it looks and feels more upscale. Hyundai chose a light grey and black theme for the dashboard and door pads, with soft-touch materials that feel premium. In addition, the air conditioning vents have been cleverly integrated into the dashboard design between the silver accents, resulting in a clean and clutter-free layout. Along with electric adjustment, the front-row seats are also ventilated and heated. Furthermore, the driver seat has a door pad-mounted memory function. There is a storage armrest in the centre, a cooled glovebox, front door pockets, seatback pockets, and bottle holders in the rear doors.

Moving to the second row, the 60:40 split seats are outfitted with individual headrests for all passengers as well as an armrest with two cup holders. There are also rear air conditioning vents and two USB chargers, as well as a new feature called 'Passenger Seat Walk-in Device.' Simply put, passengers can easily recline the front passenger seat to the most forward position by pressing a button on the right side of the front seat.

While Hyundai has not specified the exact capacity of the boot, we anticipate that it will be larger than 500 litres. The rear reclining seats, which can be accessed via a lever on either side of the boot, are a useful feature. On the downside, the loading lip has been raised, making it slightly more difficult to load heavy luggage into the boot.

Key Features of Hyundai Tucson

2023 Tucson, as the flagship SUV, is brimming with the most recent and cutting-edge features. The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system is housed in the dashboard, while the new four-spoke steering wheel controls the fully digital instrument cluster. The dual-zone automatic climate control system screen has been increased in size, and the physical knobs have been replaced with a touch-based unit.

The massive panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, 64-colour ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, an eight-speaker Bose stereo system, and Hyundai's updated BlueLink connected car tech features all contribute to this SUV's value proposition. With over-the-air updates and several voice commands in over ten regional languages, the infotainment system supports Alexa and Google voice assistants. Furthermore, this BlueLink subscription is free for the first three years.

New Hyundai Tucson comes standard with six airbags, all disc brakes, hill-assist and hill-descent control, ESC, and front and rear parking sensors. Hyundai has also introduced over 19 ADAS features with the Tucson, making it the first Hyundai model in the country to have them. Active safety features such as forward collision warning and avoidance, blind-spot collision warning and avoidance, lane departure and lane follow assist, rear cross-traffic warning and collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control, and high-beam assist are included.

Top Speed and Mileage of Hyundai Tucson

2023 Hyundai Tucson's claimed fuel efficiency is 18.42 km/l for manual diesel versions, 16.38 km/l for automatic diesel variants, 13.03 km/l for manual petrol variants, and 12.95 km/l for automatic petrol variants. The diesel engine mileage is the best in its class.

Hyundai Tucson Colour Options

Hyundai only offers the new 2023 Tucson in one colour: Amazon Grey.

Hyundai Tucson Price

With updated styling, a new cabin, and ADAS features, we anticipate the new Hyundai Tucson to carry a premium price tag ranging from Rs 27.70 lakh to Rs 33.54 lakh ex-showroom. Pre-orders for the 2022 Hyundai Tucson began on July 18, with prices set to be announced on August 4, 2022.

Hyundai Tucson Competitors

The Citroen C5 Aircross, Jeep Compass, Mahindra Thar, Renault Kiger, Skoda Slavia, Toyota Innova Crysta, Tata Punch, and Volkswagen Tiguan will compete with this Hyundai SUV.
